Still floating (72)
|Nothing special, just a glimpse from the small port of Duong Don on the Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc. Along the creek running through the town there were lots of small boats like this, most of them looking old and tired and not quite reliable. |
Phu Quoc, or more precisely Ph˙ Quốc, is an island outside the southwestern tip of Vietnam, actually much closer to the Cambodian mainland. The northern half of the island is a military area, closed to foreigners, where the Vietnamese army is prepared to ward off an unlikely Cambodian invasion. The southern part is becoming increasingly touristy. When I was there in early 2008 the island was still fairly quiet, but since then an international airport has been built and there are direct flights from several European cities, including Stockholm. I estimate there are about ten times as many hotels as ten years ago. So this is another place I have no wish to go back to.
Here is a larger version.
I enclose two workshops showing more boats anchored along the creek of Duong Don (more correctly spelled Dương Тng). One workshop shows nicer boats, the other one many boats.
