Lucca was founded by the Etruscans (there are traces of a pre-existing Ligurian settlement) and became a Roman colony in 180 BC. The rectangular grid of its historical centre preserves the Roman street plan, and the Piazza San Michele occupies the site of the ancient forum. Traces of the amphitheatre can still be seen in the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro.

At the Lucca Conference, in 56 BC, Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus reaffirmed their political alliance known as the First Triumvirate.
The walls around the old town remained intact as the city expanded and modernized, unusual for cities in the region. As the walls lost their military importance, they became a pedestrian promenade which encircled the old town, although they were used for a number of years in the 20th century for racing cars. They are still fully intact today; each of the four principal sides is lined with a different tree species.
The Torre Guinigi is the most important tower of Lucca, Tuscany, central Italy.

Torre Guinigi is one of the few remaining towers within the city walls. Its main characteristic is its hanging garden on the roof.

The tower has been donated to the local government by the descendents of the Guinigi family.

I went to Lucca with Carlo and Christina and Ghislaine and her family. What fun it was! When I see the tower and it is possible to climb it, you know, I just want to do it. Carlo was for sure many times in Lucca, but has never been there - poor Carlo, he hasn't met me before :). This time he accompanied me. It is not so high, only 230 steps.
On the photo you can see the oval square with the yellow buildings. It is Piazza del Anfiteatro.

Hello Malgo,
A splendid view over the town with the far tower nicely placed in the frame and making an excellent focal point. I like very much the lights and colours and the contrasts in tone between the urban landscape and the surrounding countryside. So much to see in this well presented composition and all in exceptional detail. Some good notes as well.

Quite impressive image.

I like the panoramic view taken by you. We can see many things in this image. Building shapes, green envirnoment etc.

Regards,
joginder

For example, Lucca doesn't really stand out in my mind when I think about Italy, but look how beautiful, photogenic, and charming this place is!

you found yourself a wonderful city view, perhaps even a postcard type of view. looks great to me!
and another successful TE meeting :)
Cheers

Viele Grüße und einen schönen Tag

BOnjour Malgorzata,

Je présume que tu te trouves au sommet des fortifications qui entourent cette très belle ville de Toscane. Les toits sont magnifiques ainsi que les montagnes brumeuses en arrière plan.

Amicalement

Serge

Beautiful panoramic view of this city! I especially like the rolling hills in the background. It looks like there are different architectural styles. Good pov and dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.

Nice reading about your TE meetings Malgo, and the advantures you taken Carlo... made me smile.
Lucca is one town I loved visiting and one day was enough to se almost all, I did not climbed towers, though.
Fine view of the Mura-urbana circled old-town, with the tower prominently above.(I have had it on my pic.s' from Lucca).
Pleasent to look at.

Hello Malgorzata,
Great view of all the orange roofs of the city. The composition is great with both the inclusion of the trees and the towers placed at the right place.
Lars

Czesc Malgorzata,

Buonanotte
Carlo

Ciao Malgorzata! Jest i Lucca. Prosto z powiesci Leopolda Buczkowskiego "Kapiele w Lucca". Piekny widok dachow. Swietna perspektywa. Ladnie rozplywaja sie we mgle gory.
PS. Na meczu nie bylem, ja jednak jestem kibicem Legii, w sobote gramy z Wisla Krakow, to ide. Podobno wczoraj na Saskiej Kepie bracia Hiszpanie (kibice) zrobili straszny obciach...

Hello Malgo,

Oh, I have a very similar photograph taken from the top of the tower, and it was a very similar cloudy day.

You have really captured the character of Lucca, with its mixture of houses and towers, with their characteristic terracotta, tiled roofs. It is so very, very Italian! You have set it in a good context, with the mountains in the b/g.

Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hi dear Malgo.
This great splendid panoramic over the rooftops of the city, we enjoy the vision of their homogeneous facades, beautiful towers and great perspective on the valley with mountains in the background, a great POV.
Nice color, in these natural tones.
Too much sharpness, such as lighting are great.
Well done. I love it.
Enjoy a good day.
Best wishes.
Luis.

Hola Malgo

Hello Malgo,

A superb high pov offering a marvellous overview of the sea of red roofs, which contrast nicely against the grey blue sky to give a pleasing warm vs cold color contrast. Good sharpness and the overhanging branch adds depth and layering. The rectangular tower makes a fine focal point. Tfs.

Hello Malgo,
Lucca is a lovely city, wonderfully maintained and neat, with fine characteristic views and lovely little surprises to discover. I like this deep and dynamic composition, where the city spreads before us and we can see the a lovely landscape in the distance as well. It's nice that there are very discreet modern life interventions on the roofs. Clarity is excellent and, despite the gloomy weather, the colours are delicious. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,
Ourania
