The medieval city, Chauvigny

One view.
Another view.

In Chauvigny, from the pond of the public garden, at the foot of the medieval city.

The city of Chauvigny, the city with five castles, 10th 15th centuries, was founded around the year 1000, by the bishops of Poitiers, lords of Chauvigny then barons as from the 15th century.
It is built on a rocky outcrop of 350 m, formed by the valleys of Vienne river and Talbat river.
A 2 km length enclosure surrounded with the 15th century four churches and five castles built in the vicinity to each other.
The first bishop of Poitiers lord of Chauvigny is Isembert 1st, died in 1047. The bishops followed one another until 1789.

One can see in the high medieval city of Chauvigny:

_The BARONY CASTLE or CASTLE of the BISHOPS, fortified castle and keep of the 11th 12th 15th centuries, 80 m out of 50 m, listed in 1025, castle of bishops of Poitiers.

_The CASTLE of HARCOURT, fortified castle of the 12th 13th 14th 15th centuries, castle bought by the bishops ones of Poitiers in 1445.

_The COLLEGIAL SAINT-PIERRE, of 11th 12th centuries, quoted at the 11th century, whose famous capitals of the columns describe various episodes of the life of the Virgin.

_The CASTLE KEEP of GOUZON, fortified castle of the 11th 12th centuries, which belonged to bishops of Poitiers as from 1335.

_The CASTLE of MONTLÉON, of the 11th century, fortified castle listed at the 10th century, which belonged to bishops of Poitiers as from 1295.

_The CASTLE said TOWER of FLINS, fortified castle of the 12th 15th centuries.

As from 1346, the city was strongly tested by the One hundred Year old War, the Wars of religion, the French revolution. It was restored as from 1843.

CHAUVIGNY is a french commune, located in the department of Vienne of the Poitou-Charentes area, populated of 6 848 Chauvinois in 2009, distributed out of 95.8 km², that is to say 71.5 hab./km².

Bonjour Joël,
A well composed image of this picturesque town dominated by its castles and church. I like the point of view looking across the slightly shimmering waters of the lake and the backdrop offered by that most interesting sky. Fine technical presentation.

Bonjour Joel

Saluti
Carlo

the best part of that beautiful image is the colors, those natural colors that give an enourmous impact.

Hello Joel,

very fine architecture shot showing this interesting castle. I like your composition and the perfect sharpness. Very informative note.Excellent contribution to TE.TFS.

With regards from Luxembourg

Hello Joel,
a wonderful view to this fascinating medieval city, a very attractive picture. The unobstracted view over the green water, the excellent sharpness and clarity allow us to get carried away by this sight and by the many interesting details that adorn it. Depth is superb and the perspective of the antique structures and the contemporarary ones beneath them is exquisite. The sky makes a beautiful contribution to the composition. Lighting and colours are utterly natural and pleasing. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a good evening,
Ourania

Hi Joel
wow, this looks like an amazing place to have a walk through, and an even better place for a TE meeting :)
You had a wonderful day with terrific cloud coverage.
You photographed the entire scene very well, we can get a sense of just how large the city is or was.
Its funny to see the small homes along the bottom, i'm sure the King way back in the day would be horrified to see it today :)
nice photo
cheers
craig

Hello Joel,

You're capturing well this place by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the calm river and old houses and medieval castle/church on the hill. Here seems to so peaceful place. And, it's impressive in rich greenery, too.
Have a nice week.

Kind regards,
mikio
