Catherine de Médicis, Chenonceaux

In the CHATEAU of CHENONCEAU, the bedroom of CATHERINE DE MEDICIS wife of King Henri II, 1519-1559, which DIANE DE POITIERS, 1499-1566, was the mistress. The room is notable for its furniture and Flemish tapestries from the 16th century.

_ One view _The bedroom of the five queens, so named in remembrance of the Reine Margot, 1553-1615, wife of Henri IV, 1553-1610, and Elisabeth de France, 1545-1568, wife of Philippe II d'Espagne, 1527-1598, daughters of Catherine de Medicis. And also to remember the names of Marie Stuart, 1542-1587, wife of François II, 1542-1560, Elisabeth d'Autriche, 1554-1592, wife of Charles IX, 1550-1574, Louise de Lorraine, 1553-1601, wife of Henri III, 1551-1589, daughters-in-law of Catherine de Medicis.

_ Other view _The bedroom of Gabrielle d'Estrées, 1570/1573-1599, favorite of King Henry IV.

Above the Cher river, the "Château de Chenonceau" chateau de Chenonceau 15th 16th centuries.
It was built from 1513 to 1521 according to the will of the statesman and financial, (under Charles VIII, Louis XII and Francis Ist), Thomas Bohier, 1465-1524, and his wife Catherine Briçonnet, died in 1526, at the site of an old mill in 1230 on the banks of the Cher river, near a castle of the 13th 15th centuries, demolished, leaving only the tower, the Marques tower, of the name of the ancient builders.
It is Diane de Poitiers, 1499-1566, mistress of King Henri II, 1519-1559, who in 1555 built a bridge over the Cher by architect Philibert Delorme, 1510-1570.
It is Catherine de Medicis, 1519-1589, widow of King Henri II, who erected the galleries on the bridge. French gardens are adjacent to the castle.
Three other notable women lived in the castle, Louise de Lorraine, 1553-1601, at the end of the 16th century, Madame Dupin, 1706-1799, in the 18th century, Madame Pelouze, born in 1836 in the 19th century. Hence sometimes the name "Chateau des Dames", women chateau.

Although built over the CHER, a tributary of the LOIRE, the Chateau de Chenonceau is one Chateau of the Loire . It is classified as historical monuments since 1840.

_ The LOIRE river, the “last wild river” and longest of France, takes its source at 1048 meters of altitude in the Massif-Central on mount "Mont Gerbier de Jonc", in the Sainte-Eulalie commune in Ardèche departement, and after a course of 1 012.7 kilometers through a catchment area of 117,000 km², 1/5 of the French territory, is thrown by a broad estuary in the Atlantic Ocean in the Loire-Atlantique departement, in Saint-Nazaire, where the flow can go down to 100 m³/s and can very largely exceed 5000 m³/s. the Loire Valley from Sully-sur-Loire in Loiret departement to Saint-Florent-le-Vieil in Maine-et-Loire, is registered since the year 2000 with the World heritage of UNESCO, for its biological diversity and its historical and cultural richness. The Loire river description.

Hi Joel,

You have captured the details on the walls really well considering the lack of light.

Your sharpness and POV is also very good.

Thank you for sharing
