[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [French]
This is where GUSTAVE ZEDE (1825-1891) spent all his summers. He was the marine engineer who co-invented the GYMNOTE with Dupuy-de-Lôme, in 1888. The GYMNOTE is the French first submarine and the ancestor of all modern submarines.
Nowadays, the mansion has gone to sleep, as his descendants preferred to live in more modern dwellings.

In the photo, under the vegetation, you can actually see 2 manor-houses :
The one to the right of the chimney dates back to the 18th century, and is now completely covered in ivy. Everything has collapsed inside. (See WS1)
The one to the left of the chimney dates back to the 19th century, and was inhabited by Gustave Zédé’s descendants right until the end of the 20th century. In the 1980’s, the lady of the house used to lend us costumes of the “Belle Epoque” for historical events :-)

Another GYMNOTE was built in 1964 and decommissioned in 1986.
They also launched a submarine in 1893, called "GUSTAVE ZEDE", in commemoration of the inventor.
The 2nd submarine"G Zédé" was in activity from 1915 to 1937.
The 3rd "Gustave Zédé" was in activity from 1948 to 1971.
The 4th "Gustave Zédé" from 1978 to to 1985.

So the man was really famous in the navy although most common people don't know about him. So it's a pity to see the place abandoned now, although the grass, in what used to be the park, is cut now and again.

WS5 : Welcome ! The door is open.
WS4 : Grand Hall
WS3 : First communion
WS2 : Exploring
WS1 : Collapsed

Salut Marie-Louise,

Lep pogled, dobar tekst, lepo secanje na GUSTAVE ZEDE ...
Dobar rad sa lepim fotografijama u radionici, lepo pokazano mesto i stara arhitektura, dobar kontrast i ostrina, lepe boje. Lep stari dvorac i secanje.

Hello Marie-Louise,

Your additional pictures speak book parts, maybe formerly a wonderful building but today a real ruin.
A wonderful location for photographers of ruins.
Nice detailed picture too.
Sharpness and clarity be perfect.
Very well done, TFS.

Have a nice weekend,

Hello Marie-Louise,
Nature has decidedly taken over here. I like the point of view and the beautiful range of green tones. Also, the well handled light and shadow contrasts. Thanks also for the interesting note.

Ciao MarieLouise
Buon we

Hello Marie Louise,
On the main photo the buildings seem to be in a reasonably good shape, except that there wouldn't be much of a view through the overgrown windows. The workshops tell us a different story of total decay. What a pity, but I know there are members of the site who just love abandoned, decayed houses ;-). An interesting contribution to TE in any case.
Kind regards,

Salut Marie Louise,

Looks almost tropical with the luxuriant greenery! Soon it will only be a distant memory. I haven't been to France in winter but in Moldova, Romania and Czech Republic, eg, winters can be brutal and all the leaves disappear until April. Good sharpness and shadow play with a tantalising glimpse of the houses at left. Tfs!

Hello Marie Louise,
A very nice capture of this house, highlighted very nicely by some spots of bright sunshine. It is very nicely surrounded by a wealth of green tones, the vegetation has clearly taken over here.

Hello MarieLouise,
What a shame to leave the manor of such a famous person in ruins! Some society should purchase this, renovate it and turn it into a museum.
BTW, good to "hear" from you every now and then.

Hello Marie Louise, What a fantastic presentation of this abandoned manor, with so many Workshops. What a pity that it is abandoned. In better times it must have been beautiful. But it must be quite an adventure to explore it, to peep inside. I like this green ivy covering the building, I like all creepers and I have some on my house. Fantastic view. Strange that it is still possible to play this piano.

Kind regrads Malgo

Hola, MarieLouise!

Salut ML.

J'aime.
Profitez du week-end.
Mes mieux désirs pour toi.

Salut Marie Louise
Amazing view of this building hidden in vegetation, the European version of Cambodian temples. Great dappled light and play of light and shadow.
Best wishes
Ps. To answer your question about my last photo - these are real people in the window. :-)

Bonjour MarieLouise,
A pity that such a house with history remain abandoned, it is up to the local community to care about this and renovate into a museum, I think.
All photos tell a story about a person I never heard about, still offers a good assay. A well taken the main picture, the view with the green surrounding.
Bon dimanche,
