|Intro:||A thirty-year resident of Southeast Alaska, I savor the benign, maritime climate, temperate rainforest, and peace and quiet of island living. I live 12 miles "out the road" from Ketchikan, a village of approximately 6,000 people. Originally the site of a Tlingit fish camp, Ketchikan became a fishing and logging community in its heyday. Today, the cruise ship industry lures almost a million tourists in search of what Alaska was before they came.|
