Edinburgh: Princes Street Gardens

After Scotland's largest city, Glasgow, back to Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh, where we stayed most of the time, like last Monday, when this photo was taken, during one of the rare sunny moments of that day. It gives a view over Princes Street Gardens in the very heart of the city, looking towards the Old Town.

Princes Street Gardens is a public park in the centre of Edinburgh. It's situated between the Royal Mile in the Old Town and Princes Street in the New Town on the spot where the Nor Loch was located until the creation of the New Town and Princes Street Gardens in the 1820ies. In the 1840ies the railway was built through the valley with the railway station Edinburgh Waverley at the east end of the gardens. The gardens are devided by The Mound, an artificial hill, connecting the Royal Mile and Princes Street, seen on the left hand side, where some important building are located, which are also seen on this photo, like the Royal Scottish Academy, the National Gallery of Scotland, the headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland, the New College, home of the Scool of Divinity of the University of Edinburgh and the General Assembly Hall of the Church of Scotland.

When the sun shined there was a real spring atmosphere in the gardens which was full of flowering daffodils, tulips and primroses and young leaves on some of the early trees.

Hope you like this view from Edinburgh and thanks for your visit!

Bonjour, mon ami Lars,

Beautiful picture ,nicely composed with great colors . Beautiful landscape!! TFS. Carme.

Hello Lars,

This is a splendid view of the Royal Mile.
I like how you have encouraged the eyes to travel up the steep slope to the ultimate goal of these fine, almost castellated buildings.

Lovely details and natural colours.
You did well to find one day with a bright blue sky!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
p.s. Interesting notes!

Excellent view, i like it. you framed this composition very well. well done.

Hi Lars, a great view with the POV and frame they are superb, the very impressive buildings are best positioned on the tom of the earthy part and after comes the sky, it works great effective.
Have a nice weekend.

Hi Lars,

What a great photo with excellent perspective.Nice colours and light.Well done.

Hey Lars,

Love the fullness of the composition here, and the beautiful green colors. Clarity is as always top notch. A great picture overall, with some impressive architecture.

See you around.

hi Lars
beautiful skyline ful of interesting and genuine architecture, nice foreground with the light and the green of the grass, fine exposure and well seen point of view,

Hallo Lars,
Groet, Henk

Hi Lars
Good composition! Beautiful colors and architecture! Very nice lights and details!
TFS, Best regards

Ciao Lars,
stupendous image taken by an excellent POV. Edinburgh I also remember me so, flood of green and with the beautiful ancient buildings that oppose with the clear sky. Good job, compliments.
Ciao and happy w.e.

Bonsoir Lairs

good composition heren spendlid view...I love this background...So for now I want to go to Edinburgh !!!!

Hey Lars.

Ah-Ha! This is more like it! I'm always glad to see well taken pictures of my home city. I like your point of view from here and I also think you have included a great composition. I would usualy think the most interesting thing from where you were standing would be the castle, but you have managed to capture a really good scene here (or was it because the dark clouds were over the castle???) :-)

Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing more of your pictures soon!

Hi Lars,
Once again a beautiful shot with quality and sharpness. Very picturesque, really nice colors too.

Excellent one, with a good point of view, but alos in terms of colors. Edimburgh has been for a very long time a very black city, with all the dirst incrusted in the buildings' walls, and this green image gives a really friendlier view of the city.

All the best,

Hallo Lars,

Prettig weekend,

Hi Lars,
The architects of these beautiful buildings really know how to take advantage of hillside construction and their vantage views. The winter trees created a nice texture to the scene. Overall contrast and image quality is good too. Well captured and composed. Well done! tfs

Bonjour Lars.

This is a wonderful view of the gardens; everythintg looks so fresh. The path looks wet after a rain shower, yet the sun is shining and the sky is blue. The vibrant green and the browns of the trees and buildings combine so well. The diagonal lines in the composition are very easy on the eye. Good work

Hi Lars,

I really enjoy this shot. Sometimes when you travel you are not lucky with the weather. Here you very obviously very quick to find a good POV and make use of the you all of a sudden had blue sky. I could see from the wet paths that it was a heavy rain not long before you took this shot. A really well composed picture with a very nice green colour of the grass after the rain. TFS and have a nice Sunday!

Hallo Lars,
You have been offering us a pleasant guided visit to Scotland and Paris. Thank you! This is a very nice view over that beautiful park with the old buildings overlooking it. I like how you oriented the image, putting the lanes cutting the lower left corner and the amazing clarity and 'sun after rain light', that makes the grass shine wonderfully.
A beautiful and achieved image indeed.
Regards, José.

prachtige foto Lars,
die gasten onderin even buiten beschouwing gelaten, vind ik hem bijzonder goed genomen, prachtige compositie, goede lijnen en prachtige details, zeer fraai fotowerk Lars, prettige avond.

Hi Lars
Lovely diagonal composition. Great colours and quality with all the details of buildings.

Hi Lars:

A splendid scenery, no doubt.

I like the atmosphere that you can breathe in the environment, the shades of green are very significant, the depth of field leaves display a real citadel of great architectural beauty.

I love this shot.

Very good picture with a composition with the gardens and her choice place of prospect. Good the description in the note and the remote view of point. Beautiful the line of hill with the more important buildings of Ed.

Bonjour Lars

Hello Lars,
The fine park surroundings really enhances the impression of the ancient buildings on the hill!
This is a fine point of view, and the early spring provides fresh green colours for the lawns...

That's a good pov to enjoy a beautiful place. Nothing but diagonals in a certain way, nothing but layers too... With the city, over the small valley. And that does work.
Great pure light too.

Hola Lars.
Beautiful view with nice colors and good POV, you were lucky to have a sunny day in this magnificent city. Very good depth and perspective, very well captured.
Well done.
Best regards.

Dear friend, I am sorry to announce that I may be departing from TE very soon. The reason is that TE admins keep erasing my photos although here there are many similar ones, some without even a note! I keep on posting and they keep on rejecting without a "real" reason. when I ask for an explanation by e-mail, they keep ignoring me. Today as another act of threat they erased one of my first posts here. I posted on the forum requesting advise, they erased that post also. I cannot keep up with this rude behavior, I feel I am posting to my stupid pc since once rejected no one responds to my requests.
You be well and keep shooting!

Olá Lars, it's really nice to see the sequence of pretty facades on top of the hill as if they were proud and showing off, specially the most visible monuments. Beautiful park with the greens standing out nicely. Good diagonal at left with a nice inclusion of the people enjoying the brief moment of sun.

Hallo Lars,

groet Rob

Hello Lars,
This green park in Edinburgh is surrounded with monuments and old-built buildings like the notable Assembly-Hall building on the Mound and the museum ahead on far side here.
A charming stroll within minutes from everywhere.
Bright sky and vivid colors, a fine outcome on photo.
My best regards,

Hello Lars,
Tis is a nice view of the gardens surrounded by the town. I like the green spaces in contrast to the buildings on the hill.

nice view of the slope with those beautiful buildings and the garden, whose terrain once was a dirty lake.

take care
