I like this photo a lot, simply because of the cuteness factor, plus the image really looks spontaneous. Two things, though: 1) I would recompose lower and get her feet in the frame. Having her feet dangling off the chair just above the ground adds to the cuteness factor, and you don't really lose anything by cropping out the blue cloth above her; 2) Lower your point of view a little bit to get at her eye-level. You obviously bent down a bit, but I'd go further.

Very valid points from Sam below. I still find myself coming back to this photo from time-to-time. I think it's a great shot.

I'm slowly gaining confidence to approach subjects (however young) having been encouraged by shots like this.

Good idea I had to begin by page 234 ! ;-) Such a lovely girl and very well photographed. I love the scale of blues... (Pity her feet aren't on the picture, would have been even more perfect!)

Fantastic photo...It is real "alive" from all points of view...Colors...exposure...face expression...I really love it...

oversharpened. I don't care for the missing feet either... crouch down. i am not a kid person, so the cuteness factor doesn't help here... all i see is a little girl with food on her face.

beautiful portrait, love the blues. adorable child!

oversharpened!

I like the image, would go for a the crop as suggested by Sam.
Not sure I understand why people think it was oversharpened..

cute pic, nice and sharp.. but needs a tighter crop and keep the feet in!

Having read the comments of others, I don't see the 'over-sharppening' artifacts they mentioned on my monitor.
I do think a tighter crop would help. It would elimnate the problem of the missing feet and the uneeded extra space above her head, making a far better street portrait, yet retaining the plate and the spirit of your original shot.

All the best! Love your site.

So... the first pic On TE ? A very nice pic. The dress and the rice are over-exposed but this mood is sweet and delighful. I would be tempted to crop on the right and in bottom until just under the hand in order to avoid this white-cut-shoes (or those cut-legs) and to add energy in the composition.

This is Photo nº1 of the site, and it´s one beautiful shot, taken at a great moment for that kid!
Congratulations for the site!

This photo is full of simplicity end sensitivity.
Very good shot

good image Adam, a little to much head room an not enough from the bottom . I think you should have crop in tighter or got her feet in the image, good job though.
Dave

Very good pic, but a tighter crop would be nice. Great subject.

Didn't know what I would find by clicking on the last page of this site! (pg 2369) I am glad I did or else I wouldn't have found this cute little girl having her lunch!

Nice image! The girl completely forgot about her food. You have caught the moment here, but I'd prefer the camera a bit lower here, to include her feet. Still, this photo offers me enough to keep me interested. Well done.

Looks like you did not have time to compose properly and just shot to get the moment. I like it.

Hie Adam. Thought I come by and say hello. Just now I was wondering about what is the first photo posted at Trekearth. This must be it.

A good photo showing the innocent and fair of a child. The best part of this photo is her lunch bowl, which seem to wanting to get its part in this photo. But pity, her legs is not visible.
Keep up the camera work.

Cute picture of this little girl and her lunch... Only I would have loved to see her feet too... TFS...Ina...

Cute and tender! Maybe the feet were cut, but it doesn't matter when the expression of the portraited is so lovely! Regards.

I just want to take this oportunity to thank you for letting us play on your site. About this photo, instead of applying the shadows/highlight adjustment on the RGB mode, change it to lab mode and apply the shadows/highlight adjustment to the lightness channel and return to RGB. It produces more natural colors. Thanks to you.

Hello Adam:)
Pretty view.
Wonderful small models.
Good colors and composition.
Regards & smile.
Magda

Oh… She so lovely! Thank you for all your interesting pictures !

Nice shot Adam! You've captured a really cute picture of a girl eating her lunch at the market here. It may be fractionally oversharpened in a couple of places; around the eyes and the white thing near her shin, but otherwise it's spot on.

I can only echo what the others have said about the lack of feet; however fortunately it's not insurmountable: Here's why, I hope you like it! Think of it as a five year TE birthday gift ;D

Thankyou for creating TE!

Ciao Adam, nice see first on TE, lovely girl in great pose, teen years ago youhad a very beautiful idea, bravo, ciao Silvio

Ciao Adam,
Grazie a Silvio abbiamo soddisfatto la curiositá di vedere il primo post su TE, una foto che credo ormai abbia il suo bel valore storico e che si lascia apprezzare anche per la sua bellezza.
Un caro saluto

Hello Adam,
I saw this lovely picture thanks to Silvio. The little girl is so adorable and able to hold our glance for a very long time. I like very much the spontaneity and lighting of this portrait as well as the sharpness that makes it so vivid. Congratulations and thank you!
I'm really grateful for your idea, actions and passion to create this site, I think it has had a tremendous impact on people's ideas, visions and lives.
All the best,
Ourania

Ciao Adam
Saluti
Carlo

Hi Adam,
What a lovely picture for the first one on TE !
Everything is there : The cuteness of the little girl, her Asiatic look and the fact she is eating her rice with sticks ! It's probably normal for them, but looks so difficult for us Occidentals.
Looking at the background, we imagine she is having her lunch in her parents'shop.
A really lovely souvenir, to remember on the tenth anniversary of TE.
Thanks ever so much for the existence of this site.
Kindest regards.
Marie-Louise.
