It doesn't happen every week that I show a picture from Stockholm, but here is one. It is from my own district, Södermalm island, and only about 10 minutes on foot from where I live.

This large mural was commissioned by the city authorities responsible for public art in 2017. It was made by the Brazilian twin brothers Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo, calling themselves Os Gêmeos (The Twins). They have become quite famous in recent years, being invited to paint large murals in cities in many parts of the world. I first saw one of their paintings in Łódź in Poland in 2014.

A conservative coalition that ruled Stockholm 2006–2014 had a "zero tolerance" to all kinds of graffiti. A left/green coalition which took power in 2014 ended that policy and commissioned a number of large murals (including on the house where I live), and also tolerated several local initiatives. Since late 2018 the conservatives are back in power, but I'm not sure if they still have the same rigid objections to all kinds of wall paintings. Occasionally even conservatives have to accept that society is changing.

I have come to this place many times during the last 20 months, always hoping to find the right conditions for a perfect photo: the parking lot deserted and one or two persons watching the painting. But it never happened that both wishes were fulfilled.

So I give you three alternative non-perfect photos, taken at different times of the year and including a number of strangely indifferent persons. The main photo was taken in October last year. One WS is a few months older and the other very recent.

You can visit this place yourself by dragging the yellow Google man to the map coordinates 59.31785 18.07664.

Here is a larger version of the main photo.

Hej Gert,
Lars

Hello Gert,
Another nice and interesting TE entry in your gallery.
Photographycally perfect, the wallart is tremendous. And of course this young trio at the bottom adds life to the scenery.
Many good and usefull notes.
TFS and best regards
MESUT ILGIM

Hello Gert,
I enjoyed these three photos and also the accompanying text.
The Brazilian wall painters are conquering the world and that makes the place a little bit happier and we can use that these days.
You are very critical. No cars and two people looking at the artwork. I think, All three of your photos are perfect.
Excellent presentation
Have a nice day. Groet Rob

Hello

Philippe

Hello Gert,
I like the main photo best. It shows this colourful and exotic mural to optimal effect. The three people hanging around the lamp are not unduly disturbing and give the composition a different sort of 'colour'. Well saturated colours and very good sharpness.

Hi Gert
A change of scene and some great street art but I also love the group of people below. Good one.
Cheers
Ian

Hi Gert,

The presence of the visitors is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the beautiful mural. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Pierre

Ciao Gert, great view of fantastic murale, lovely composition with talking couple, fine details, wonderful colors, excellent clarity and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Ciao Gert
Oltre al bel disegno e ai bei colori, c'è anche una bella prospettiva, non è facile ottenere questi risultati con questa grandezza.
Saluti
Carlo

Hello Gert,

good image of this place, I like the graffiti very much, it is an amazing street piece of art, the composition with the people is also interesting, well done,

Best regards,

Sergio

Bonjour Gert,

J'aime beaucoup les murales dans nos villes. Elles expriment beaucoup de choses et invitent à bien regarder lorsqu'on marche dans la rue.Celle-ci est spectaculaire.

Amicalement

Serge

Hello Gert,
This is great! I recognized the artists right away. They have a large double mural in a neighborhood that I frequently visit here in NYC. I like the art itself, and I think your main photo is the best one. The people add some life, but don't block the art or distract from it. Very nice. :-)

Hello, Gert!

I think I've watched an interview of them once, a long time ago, but I don't know if they have any graffitis in my city. The painting is beautiful with all these vivid colors and its great size, very well scaled by the presence of the indifferent people, as you wanted for your photo. Very good framing, light and sharpness! Well done!

Hello dear friend and have a nice time
and a happy new day
original version greetings to the artist who
was inspired to paint this large mural and
as you informed us it was commissioned
by the city authorities responsible for
public
this painting makes the street more
happier

I guess the artwork of Kobra (another famous street artist) is more beautiful than these created by the twins, but at same time the twins are much more creative. very nice quality of the photo showing each detail of the huge mural. excellent and a touch of pride for us.

take care

jorge

Hi Gert
I don't know why city politicians often block these murals from happening. They add SO much character and charm to any city, if its done correctly - as this one has. Its not graffiti, its art and very attractive. People love it, politicians for some reason are hesitant. Perhaps they're too conservative, who knows. I'm not 100% sure if you've posted this mural before, (I don't think so), but its about time you did hahahaha, considering how close it is to your home. Good for you to post it now, its been worth the wait, I love this unique city view. cheers
Craig

Hello Gert.
This is an outdoor painting of the most gigantic, also the girl with her doll is very well executed, its great color gives a beautiful color to a wall without it would be an empty space.
The management of color and light, are magnificent, highlighting the beauty and sharpness of the image.
Very well done. I like it
Enjoy a good day
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Gert,

You were very determined to get the 'right' shot but chances, it would seem, were never quite right!
The mural looks pretty good in all the shots and it is only the individual preferences of the viewers, concerning the figures present, that affect which is favourite.
I actually go for the one with the figures walking towards the mural, if for no other reason than they guide viewers inwards.
This is a lovely colourful, cartoon-like mural. The artists have taken every opportunity to add all sorts of little features around the main figures so that it becomes a sort of I-Spy competition, too.
I cannot imagine anyone complaining about this colourful mural, brightening an otherwise dull wall. It could be difficult to persuade the population to return to the more austere regime.

My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Dear Gert,

All three photos are nice. I would have chosen WS2, but of course this one is my subjective pick.

Best Wishes,
Gy.

PS: Thank you for your kind words under my latest picture.

Hallo Gert These yellow giants can be mistaken for characters of the comic strip 'The Simpsons' and they constitute a strong eye catcher for someone who is looking for a parking lot in town! I will more and more often leave unobtrusive people in my street shots, as you thought me by example, to add a sense of life and scale. Thanks for this spirited view masterly captured. Halsningar

Hello Gert, Fantastic mural and no wonder you go there so often. Of course, it is better when we see the murals and people, but this one is so attractive that all the versions are equally good. No need to look for a perfect composition. A nice scene in the main one.
I looked once more at the mural in Łódź. I would like to go to Łódź one day and to see many interesting murals. But when? And even of I go, when to find the time to show pictures? Three trips ahead of me.

Kind regards MAlgo

Hello Gert
I really enjoyed the three mural pictures and also the one of your backyard! Gorgeous colours and the interaction between the people in the main post is enjoyable too. The note is informative with fine prose as always.
Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

Hej Gert,

There are so many interesting and spectacular artworks and graffiti around my town too, and I really must make an effort one day to record a few of them. I like the 3d effect at the bottom with the recessed wooden boards. The people provide scale. I have taken similar murals in Greece and Romania but without people, it's difficult to estimate the scale for someone who has not been there even though they are 5 stories high! This one is still a very respectable 4 levels high. Tfs!

Hello Gert, any one of the three shots would have been good as a main post.
The wall art is fantastic, such an accomplished piece. So colourful.
The information is an interesting read.
Excellent TE post.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Gert,
I love that huge mural with brilliant colors. I remember the mural in Łódź.
Regards,
MT

Hello Gert,

wonderful mural from Stockholm which I like very much. Excellent informative note.TFS.

With regards from Luxembourg

Gert, good idea to let foreign artists expressing them on Stockholm walls. Successful mural painted on a building facade near a parking. The two yellow characters remind the Simpsons. Three residents are going talk in the street. Bright colors, good sharpness

Hello Gert,
An interesting mural, beautiful street art. Artists known for their mural in my city. If I am in Stockholm I will be happy to see. Perfect captured and fine details.
Good work, fine presentation.

Piotr

Hello Gert,
Thanks for your clatest critique.
This mural is a stunner, the colors, the size and the scale managed with the guys stood on its foot - all wonderfully presented from a fair distant point.
The painting by itself has a good depth depicted, eyes illussion that works well on picture.
Have a nice new day,
Ike

Hello Gert, very good photograph of this beautiful and interesting mural with daily life scene, very well captured in this interesting image, with good sharpness, light, color and quality. Very good and interesting work perfectly done, my congratulations my friend. Thank you for sharing this beautiful work.

Good afternoon and happy Sunday.
Warm greetings from the south of Spain.
Angel.

I think these huge murals are a good idea, if only to stop the wild, untidy scribbling of the graffiti !
You have chosen the best of the 3 as a main post for its bright colour. It suddenly makes the place more cheerful, interesting and entertaining.
Kind regards.
Marie-Louise.

A missed quite a lot of your photos recently! I first saw this one this morning through the link Piotr posted yesterday. :-)
Interesting, colourful mural and a great idea to include the people at the bottom for scale and interest.
It pays to "travel" close to home sometimes. :-)
Have a nice weekend.
Kasia
