Good Morning Everyone

After spending a couple of days in Cumbria, where yesterday, I took this photograph of Ruskin's View, I have returned home to find snow falling heavily, again!

Please take the time to click on John Ruskin to see the photograph much larger and clearer. I will add another photograph of the scene in a workshop.

John Ruskin, 8 February 1819 – 20 January 1900) was the leading English art critic of the Victorian era, as well as an art patron, draughtsman, watercolourist, a prominent social thinker and philanthropist. He wrote on subjects as varied as geology, architecture, myth, ornithology, literature, education, botany and political economy.

This view of the Lune at Kirkby Lonsdale was reputed, by him, as ‘one of the loveliest views in England, therefore in the world’. His writings Inspired artist JMW Turner in 1822 to paint the scene, which Ruskin then termed a 'priceless possession'.

The land from which this can be seen, was bought by a local philanthropist and donated to the town, where it can be ever protected for the general public, to enjoy the view. Many seats have been placed there and several memorial plaques.

Have a lovely day, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
nice the landscape view that looks like as a painting. The colourful foreground and the endless view until the backdrop make the image and the place so beautiful.

Hello Beverley,
A wonderful landscape of hills, trees, green fields and some water winding its way through the landscape. The composition is excellent. There is an atmosphere about this area which seems to mark the end of winter and the start of spring, but then it's about time for the snow to stop falling!

Hello Bev,
A very pleasant view with a lot of vegetation, and a fence, creating a lower frame. The idea that what is the best in England is automatically the best in the world makes me smile, ironically, especially in these Brexit days. But it is certainly not a bad view, and there is a great variety of still very mild colours that will probably get stronger as the months go by.
I guess that by now you have noticed that something went wrong with the title. Maybe you have already corrected it.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Bev,
In some respects Ruskin seems to have been rather a strange fellow but there is no doubt he had an eye for beauty. This is a very pleasant view across the rolling Cumbrian countryside. Very agreeable soft lights and colours; excellent depth and sharpness.
Dry and bright here today, maximum 14; 17 promised tomorrow. It would seem that spring has arrived here at last. I trust it won't be long before it reaches your part of the world.

Hello Bev,

Starting to look like Spring. I like the high pov and traces of snow on the distant hills. Good sharpness and colour. The curving reversed c shaped stream leads the eye around the frame well. Tfs!

Bonjour Beverly

Je dois avouer que cela valait la peine d'aller voir la version plus grande de la photo pour mieux apprécier la beauté des collines en arrière plan. En exemple parfait de la beauté de la campagne anglaise.

Amicalement

Serge

Hello Bev
The snow has disappeared and the lovely sloping landscape seems to be ready to welcome the spring of 2018. The landscape suits beautifully the series of Victoria we follow at the moment on Dutch television.
Lovey presentation. Have a nice day, groet Rob

Bonjour, chère Bev,
J'ai toujours aimé les lithographies anglaises présentant cette magnifique campagne aux formes élégantes et variées.
Cette prise de vue ne fait pas exception, et l'on prend plaisir à la contempler.
Amitiés.
Philippe

Signs of spring, Beverley, wonderful scenery from the spot taken. light and colors, depth and clarity, and the view through the branches, still naked. Stream of water is notable - wonderful all the combined objects.
Good evening,
Ike

Hello Beverley,
You managed the light very well and present us a wonderful landscape whereby you've paid a lot of attention to the composition and the framing of the picture.
We see a very attractive alternation of river and land, of trees and grasslands. The clouds make a splendid upper part.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev,
A very nice composition. The river threading through the image to the mountains provides a lovely linking line. The foreground color and the fence detail enclose and add greatly to the image. Well done.

Richard
