[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The setting off point, from which the Pilgrim Fathers are believed to have finally left England aboard the Mayflower, before crossing the Atlantic Ocean to land in North America on 6th September 1620.

This is as close to that actual point as you are likely to get, as the steps no longer exist.
Yet known as the Mayflower Steps, the small platform gives you a view of steps that are symbolic of the real thing.

The stone portico was built in 1934, and there are many plaques describing historical events from this place.
Flanked by the British and American flags,it marks the final departure point of 102 passengers.

The metal sculpture is titled 'The Barbican Prawn' and was designed by Brian Fell.
Thank you for looking.

Good evening Jean,
Many interesting objects appearing on this picture, the notable massive wall of the quay, the masts "popping" over it, and the monster-fish statue.
There are also a balcony and stairs from the pier down to water level, which are an eyes catching objects.
Even with diffused mild light condition, managed a fine photo, distinct and clear.
My best regards,
Ike

Hello Jean,
An excellent photo of this important place in history. I like the contrast between the old quay walls and the modern buildings further away. The sculpture on the right is well included too. I like the soft and natural light on this partly cloudy day.

Hello Jean,

This is a lovely capture of a moment in history and your note explains it all very well. The little stone portico flanked by flags is perfectly places in the frame and nicely balanced by the modern "Barbican Prawn" sculpture while the massive wall of the quay provides a strong diagonal to lead us through the image.

Lovely light and colours and impeccable details and clarity.

Beautiful!

Kind Regards,

John.

Hello Jean,

We get much to see, also nice details of the balcony and the mast of the boats in background.
Nice depth and perspective.
An excellent composition, pleasant presentation too.
Very well done, TFS.

Best regards,
John.

Ciao Jean, lovely composition with original sculpture, wonderful colors, excellent clarity and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hello Jean,

A scene that I recognise well from my explorations last year!
I was interested to learn about the historic place, still called the Mayflower Steps.
It was well placed in your photograph, nicely framed by the flags and providing a balance with the symbolic Barbican Prawn.
The b/g reveals how much Plymouth is still involved in sailing, many yacht masts and the bridge of a larger vessel.

My warm regards,
Bev 😊

Hi Jean
Does look very interesting touristy - historic sight as seen from this view point with the 'prawn sculpture' grabs ones eye. Wonderfully seen and detailed to a fine capture, Congrats.
Best wishes
