Here is the larger clearer Beta version ABANDONED ICELAND.

I've decided to continue with my abandoned theme from Iceland. I came across this abandoned home in the middle of nowhere, and guess what...i've found it's precise location - you can look at it on the map feature. Its very remote, in north eastern Iceland, the first and only photo on TE from Bakkafjordour.

It was scary and frightening going inside this house. You never know what you're going to find, forget about objects, i'm talking about people. My heart was beating fast, birds flew out of the windows and scared the crap out of me! haha

Whats so exciting about abandoned homes, is the fact that you'll never know what type of condition they'll be in. This house was actually in pretty good condition, it's still intact. The floorboards are strong, there is some tearing, some holes, but overall it was pretty good. You could easily tell it was abandoned though, the stove was taken out and was sitting in the hallway, it was totally rusted out, there was animal poop everywhere, windows were smashed etc..

The scariest and creepiest part was there is a bedroom with a deadbolt on it...makes me wonder what the heck is in THAT room! Perhaps a dead body, who knows! All the other rooms were unlocked, but not that room, the lock was heavy and strong. I was so tempted to break the door down and get inside, I really really wanted to - but fear of the unknown takes over, and I didn't want to cause alot of noise. Yes, it's abandoned and in the middle of nowhere, but when you're inside you're trying to be as quiet as possible, trying not to make yourself noticed. Its a psychological self preservation thing that takes over in your mind as you snoop around.

There was one BLUE room, that was the creepiest, like something out of a horror movie - I'll post that as a main photo next time.

One interesting fact was there is a room with a table on it, and on the table was a notebook. In the notebook, people like me were leaving notes and messages - none of which were in English...thats too bad. And get this, people were leaving money! Coins, small dollar bills, incredible! People would write a note, leave some cash and move on.

I wish I had photographed the notes, I could have translated them later when i got home - I didnt think of that at the time.

This was one of my personal highlights during my 2 week trip, I remember feeling so happy and excited after exploring the home.

Dear Craig!
Wonderful building.
Amazing former architecture.
Superb sky.
Fantastic lightness and colours.
Good POV and DOF.
Splendid effect.
Well done!

Bonjour, cher ami Craig,
Philippe

Hi Criag. What you write is almost unbelievable. If we had been in Italy, all the furniture would have disappeared, and even the roof sheets, but here people leave the money on the table .... haha ... it's really another world and another culture! 3 perfect pics as usual,i like especially the colorful interior and the blue room isn't so bad as you think for me...ehhee...have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello,
Nice and simple image with this grey house against the vibrant colors of nature. Well taken, it looks somehow unreal...

Hello Craig,
Another great photo of an abandoned Icelandic house. It looks quite creepy with the curtains still hanging in the windows. Luckily it was a bright day with a perfectly blue sky and well-saturated colours. Even the grey walls have got some colours over time.
Lars

Hello Craig,

Your notes are a great accompaniment to your photograph! The house really does look lonely, isolated but, in association with your notes, it takes on an eerie presence, even on such a bright day!
I find the information about the locked room and the handwritten notes a really gripping scenario. You could develop this into a wonderful script for a film; can you imagine the interest it would evoke as an opening scene!

Back to the photograph; a nicely angled shot allows us to judge the size and shape of the house whilst the colours are strong in the fine light.

Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Dobar dan.
Lep pogled, interesantan i dobar tekst ...
Dobar rad sa lepim fotografijam u radionici, lepo pokazana kuca i enterijer, dobar kontrast, lepe boje.
Lepa napustena kuca i enterijer.
Zelim vam lep dana, sve najbolje.
Paja.

Good day.
Nice view, interesting and good text ...
Good work with nice photographs in the workshop, beautifully shown house and interior, good contrast, nice colors.
Beautiful deserted house and interior.
I wish you a nice day, all the best.

Hello Craig,
This abandoned house does look a little eerie with its rough textured walls. But, just think there are obviously other people about of the same mind as you;-) I like the framing and the colour contrasts and the well rendered textural detail.

Hello Craig,
What a perfectly weird house. Usually I would expect to find a road leading up to a house where people lived, and maybe some kind of courtyard. Has it really been abandoned for so long that the surroundings are already overgrown? Not even the steady stream of curious tourists sneaking into the house have left a visible track. The remarkably clear sky and the thick green carpet, the grey walls and rusty roof make this look a bit eerie already from the outside, and the interior shots also make me feel a bit uneasy. It's like I don't have the right to look into what legally still is someone's private property. Why didn't they even need to take their tea cups to wherever they were going? I suppose if you had managed to get inside the locked room you would probably just have found the mummified bodies of the family that once lived here. Nothing more interesting than that, so you didn't miss much.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hi Craig,
This is lovely picture. The colors are so deep and the texture and feel of the walls and the building can clearly be seen. Very enjoyable notes. In another season/weather it could be very different.

Regards,

Richard

Bonjour Craig,

Il n'y a rien de plus solitaire qu'une maison abandonnée en Islande. Le bout de la maison au bout du monde. Le cadrage est excellent, avec une ligne de fuite et une bonne idée de l'environnement autour.

Amicalement

Serge

Hello, Craig!

This house seems much more intact than the last one, although here you found no one entering it! Interesting story you tell us about your experience there, and the house was captured with perfect colors and sharpness! Wonderful composition, with excellent quality! Well done!

Hello Craig, an interesting find, and made even more so by your going inside to investigate.
I was surprised by how clean it looked inside, quite bright and colourful; and the mugs still hung on the rack!
Excellent sharp quality.
I admire your curiosity and nerve!
Thanks for sharing, regards Jean.

Ciao Craig
Buon we
Carlo

Hello Craig!

It is astounding how long relics of human living can be preserved under favourable conditions, and I ask myself how long this home may have been uninhabited?

A little spooky, and well taken!

Hi Craig,

Geez, your note is really creepy! Funnily enough, it reminds me of a rather pathetic joke about a book called "The Haunted House" written by Hugo Furst. You go first - get it? Told you it was pathetic. :)

I rather think I would have pooped or at least wet myself in that situation unless I had had someone with me - so very brave of you to go in and have a look around by yourself. I'm really looking forward to any pictures from the interior of this spooky place.

Anyway, a lovely photograph with fine bold composition and glorious colours as that rusty red corrugated iron roof stands out brilliantly against the deep blue sky. Spot-on exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

Fabulous!

Kind Regards,

John.

Hi Craig
Superb reportage - three great photos together with your excellent note. The main shot is an introduction to the series and I really like the interior photos too. I have no doubts that you have more really good shots from this place and am looking forward to seeing your next upload of the spooky blue room.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hello Craig
Your fascination for abandoned Icelandic houses is fascinating. If you like this special atmosphere so much I can recommend you the books of the Icelandic Nobel prize-winner, literature Halldór Laxness. I read several of his books and your pictures are splendid illustration.
Have a good week, groet Rob

It is unbelievable that such a house has remained in such a good condition, the history of people who left this house was for sure very interesting, but probably we will not get to know it.

Ciao Craig, great view of fascinating abandoned house, wonderful colors, excellent clarity and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hello Craig.
Surprising to see this house abandoned, it seems to be in good condition, I guess the reason will be isolation in such a harsh climate. He left behind the house and many objects, as we see in the WS photos.
A beautiful color, which enhances the image.
Magnificent management of brightness and sharpness, to enjoy with the details.
Well seen and done. I like it.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Craig
Thank you for informative note.
Interesting series of photos from your trip to Iceland.
Fine presentation.

Hello Craig,
This house is interesting, but I was really pulled in by your note! It sounds like a creepy experience. You better be careful; you don't want to end up on the set of a real-life horror movie! These abandoned houses could be a trap to lure in unsuspecting photographers. Ha ha! ;-)
