Soundtracks

After the Quantum Cloud of my previous post, today another cloud from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)
This time a Cloud made of red electrical wire hanging like a cloud in the room. But it isn’t just a Red Wired Cloud; It is also a SOUNDCLOUD

The visitors are invited to wear a customized headphone and move along the artwork to experience the fourteen-channel composition.
In the main picture you can see a young lady attentively listening to the sound with her head almost in the cloud. In the two workshops we zoom out and see how the audience deal with the installation.

Christina Kubrisch – Cloud
German artist Christina Kubisch, a pioneer of sound art, began using electromagnetic induction in her installations as early as 1978. Since then she has constantly refined her practice of staging the effects of wireless electromagnetic transmissions. Cloud (2011/2017), produced on-site at the museum using thousands of meters of red electrical wire, hosts a fourteen-channel composition that visitors listen to by wearing customized headphones. These devices, developed by the artist, contain magnetic coils that receive the magnetic fields circulating in the cable loops and make them audible. As visitors move around the installation, they look at the chaotic electrical wiring suspended in the gallery but hear the prerecorded sounds programmed into different segments of the sculpture.
………
Kubisch started her series of Clouds in 2011, before the term became a Silicon Valley buzzword for a type of data storage. Uncannily, however, her participatory audio sculptures relate to these topics of storage and access, yet they do so in a theatrical way, turning visitors into active listeners who are constantly seeking to retrieve and mix new sonic impressions by bending down, lying on the floor, or simply turning their heads. Hello Rob,
What a magnificent idea for an installation, inspiring more than one sense. Maybe there was even a smell of plastic from the wires? The marvellous photo opportunities in this room should have made you feel you were in Paradise. The main photo is an original variety on the classic theme of the"lady in red". The pattern created by the wires and the woman's poster make this a very attractive photo.
Kind regards,
Gert

Bonjour, cher ami Rob,
Philippe

Hi Rob,

This Museum is full of innovative artwork
The red wire is already striking enough to catch the attention. I can see that the lady is listening attentively to check out what kind of sound would she get.

Very interesting idea of snapping curious people going through the soundcloud.

I will be interested to hear from you whether she or other tester did hear any sound

Well done
Ralf

Hi Rob,

The red wires are impressive. You have captured well the concentration of the woman looking at the exhibit. The good luminosity is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Pierre

Bonjour Rob,

Cela doit être passionnant d'expérimenter cette oeuvre d'art qui n'est pas seulement belle mais qui aussi fait de la musique, même si il faut un peu se pencher.

Amicalement

Serge

Hello Rob,

I like it!, this is an interesting piece of art and excellent photo, you caught a great scene with the woman behind the red wired cloud, the visual effect is amazing, well done,

Best regards,

Sergio

Hello Rob,
A great idea for this exhibition of SoundCloud, pity you can't convey what offered to be heard with the headphones. But, your notion with three photos here is attractive, interesting and unique display.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hi Rob

The lady enveloped in red plastic wires seems intrigued by the listening experience. Good sharpness and the tangle of thin wires resembles spaghetti. Tfs!

Hello Rob,

Wires carry sound so it is a natural extension that the art should include music.

My immediate impression was the result caused by my kittens when I used to try winding hanks of wool into balls. Though I should have been cross, they amused me so much I just sat back and watched!

Great to see such unusual art, though, in places that I would never see it personally.

My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hallo Rob,

Hello, Rob!

This image, together with your note about this art, makes us curious to listen to that, and the strong colors of this wire make the image very attractive! Very nice composition, with excellent light and sharpness! Well done!

Hello Rob,
You found another fascinating work of art. The red color is bold, and the people are lost behind this swarm of red chaos. It just serves to remind us that with a little imagination, anything can become art.
