[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Continuing with my recent series of photos from Vancouver, I'm wanting to show areas of the city that usually go unnoticed - this is certainly one of them in the Chinatown area.

Chinatown at night can be a difficult place to take photos alone, so I made sure my friend Colin and I teamed up. This is another section of Vancouver where you really have to be careful, especially with camera gear and expensive looking equipment.

During the daytime hours its completely the opposite, but at night its mostly drug addicts, drunk party goers and people that sort of just give you a bad feeling.

While Colin and I were photographing this amazing SAI WOO Chicken neon sign, many addicts approached us, but thankfully they were the polite Canadian type haha. No harm came to us.

It was Colin's idea to capture this Neon chicken, its a newly lit neon sign in town - well, not new as the chicken was broken and dull for many years. He noticed the owners of the restaurant must have finally put some money into fixing the neon - money well spent in my mind.

I chose this POV because I was also able to get a reflection in the window, and the person walking by adds some spooky atmosphere. Hope you like it.

There's another close up photo in the WS

Bonjour, cher Craig,
Philippe

Hello Craig,
Another successful composition captured on your nocturnal adventures. The oblique point of view is well chosen giving us the added bonuses of the reflection and the mysterious passer-by. Ideally exposed with very good colours and clarity. Over a year now since I last had a Chinese meal, you have whet my appetite for another one.

Hi Craig

Good description of the purpose of the night photography session. I like the vibrancy of the flashy colors of the sign, well reflected in the window and mainly the wandering guy giving life to the shot and showing the kind of people you can encounter in this area
Cheers
CLODO

hello Craig
Salutations
Roland

Hello Craig,
Lots of colors and bright signs well captured in the dark night. The person standing in the light outside the next shop is the cherry on the cake, in spite of the eye-catching chicken sign. But all details work well together to create a very good photo.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Craig,

I like the green colour and reflection in the windows.
Also in Belgium are chinese active.
Composition and presentation are superb.
Sharpness and clarity are wonderful, also nice architecture.
Very well done, TFS.

Best regards,
John.

Bonjour Craig,

Amicalement

Serge

Hello Craig,
Great photo from night time in Vancouver's Chinatown. You captured the neon signs so well, superb exposure and sharpness. The composition is excellent too, you included the dark street and the lonely man very well on the right hand side.
Lars

Hello, Craig!

Very good night shot, with beautiful and colorful lights, very well managed, and excellent sharpness! A lot of interesting dtails to see, and the reflection is a very nice detail! Wonderful composition!

Hello Craig
Interesting note with two splendid chicken-scenes-pictures. Both have something special that make the images extraordinary. The “Say Yes” man walking in the light in the main picture, the clear reflection of the workshop.
Difficult choice, but I slightly prefer the main picture for its special atmosphere.
Excellent work.
Have a nice day. Groet Rob

Hi Craig, interesting history about this neon, broken for many years and now brand new...ehehe..a big risk to go there in the night, but this is world too,and sometimes me too i like to go in dangerous places...it's enough to go without money and jewels....and the risk is very low...ehehe..original and interesting post by your late evening with Colin. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hi Craig
A well spotted and attractive ideas using neon as part of the image creating a fascinating ambient & colours
it's different & it's damn good with that mystery man!
Lovely quality in the eye, Congrats
Best regards

Hello Craig,

You do take risks to get your chosen photographs but it shows an excellent result!
I love this shot; it has just the right amount of darkness and highlighted, illuminated features.
The signs are amazing and are reflected, too, like beacons in a gloomy landscape!
The single figure is perfect, completing the mood that you describe so well in your notes.

Have your seen the Invictus Games on TV?
I have seen some reportage and the overwhelming mood is the kindness and generosity of the Canadian people.

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Belo trabalho.
Parabéns e Abraço,
Lucas

Hello Craig,
Nice the night snapshot with the sign of the Chinese chicken shop to be the eye catching of the scene. The passing by man adds scale in the scene.Excellent night shot.

Regards,Danos

What you said about night time in Vancouver China-Town, Craig, was very true to the NYC China-Town in The seventies, so I recall my few visits there.
The picture has wonderful green and yellow glow against the dark surrounding.
Interesting and different in your gallery.
Good new day,
Ike

Ciao Craig
Saluti
Carlo

Hello Craig,
I'll have the shrimp lo mein. ;-) Neon at night is always a winner, and so is a reflected, neon chicken. I like how the lone man walking down the street is passing through that illuminated bit of sidewalk, creating a spooky shadow. Nice atmosphere in this shot.
