[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
After a few odd photos I have chosen a very regular postcard. I took it from the balcony of my hotel room in the small port of Rafina (Ραφήνα), northeast of Athens.

I have travelled to the Cycladic islands several times from Rafina, which to my mind has a lot of advantages over much larger Piraeus. While there are many more destinations and more frequent departures from Piraeus, Rafina is much closer to the airport and is so small that every hotel and restaurant is within a few minutes on foot from the ferries. Rafina is also much more quiet than big and noisy Piraeus.

In the distance you can see Evvia (Εύβοια), the second largest Greek island. On the map it looks like a large peninsula, but it is really an island although connected to the mainland via two bridges.

Here is a larger version.

I will show two workshops from the quay, one of mainly blue and yellow, the other mainly red and yellow.

Hej Gert,
Snygg Z-linje och fina färger.

Hello Gert,
A very agreeable view to be had from your hotel bedroom window. The ferry makes an excellent focal point and is nicely juxtaposed by the small craft in the near foreground. The rocky jetty supplies a good lead-line and a touch of graphism. The image is nicely illuminated and has agreeable natural tones and good sharpness.

Hello Gert,

What a lot to see on this port shot.
The arrowed line of cars and small boat could have been a post on their own, with parallels and differing textures
Then we have further parallels from the rocky jetty and the outgoing ferry, a huge and impressive focal image, given the sense of movement from its smoke-emitting funnel. The island in the b/g enhances the sense of movement across the frame.

I like your two 'coloured' w/s too.
Photographers see things that others would not recognise!

Have a great Sunday,
Bev :-)

lovely this vertical compo with the cars making a V in the lower part, the big ferry in evidence and the other details. I used only piraeus because I was in athens and subway was a nice and easy way to reach my hotel and the port. anyway someone could be spent many months exploring each greek island, it is similar with each historic village in italy, each white pueblo in andalucia, etc..

Bonjour, cher Gert,
La vue depuis la fenêtre de la chambre d'hôtel est fort agréable.
Une bien belle carte postale d'un lieu mythique quant à sa beauté.

Hello Gert,

I like the contrast between the big blue star ferry and the small runabout motorboat in the fg. Good sharpness and the tongue of the rust red rock groyne adds a superb warm cold colour contrast with the blue sea and sky. Tfs!

Hej Gert,
Less of seaside charm and more about parctice of transport. But this is just fine for me! Good timing with that ferry just leaving. I also like minimalism of the workshops.

Dobar dan.
Interesantan i lep pogled, lep trenutak, dobar tekst ...

Good day.
Interesting and beautiful look, nice moment, good text ...
Good work with nice photos in the workshop, good contrast and perspective, nice colors, nice moment.
Nice part of the port with cars and a blue ferry that go away.
I wish you a nice day for rest, all the best.

Ciao Gert, beautiful sea view with fantastic ship, wonderful colors and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Bonjour Gert,

J'aime beaucoup le point de vue choisit pour cette carte postale ainsi que l'utilisation du cadrage vertical qui donne de la profondeur à l'ensemble.Très jolies couleurs.

Hello Gert,

This is the new type of traveling, with a cruise of place to place and the rest eat and drink.
Also nice ferry in blue water, and perfect nice colours.
An excellent composition and presentation.
Very well done, TFS.

Have a nice Sunday,

Dear Gert,

Making spectacular photos without taking your foot out of the hotel room is a very good thing. Since it 30 again, I would do the same, but I can only seen the apartment blocks. :)

Have a nice Sunday!

Ciao Gert

I love the perspective and graphism that the parked cars make. The beautiful blue of the sea contrasts so nicely with the concrete jungle of the landscape. The mountains in the background are an added bonus and a nice contrast to the urban theme in the foreground. Nice job, excellent high viewpoint.

gert good evening to you..nice bright colourful scene..impressive to look at!great note too! tfs dale

Hi Gert,

The distance between the ship and the mountains is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the ferry boat. The good luminosity is bringing out the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Ciao Gert

Hello Gert,

Fine presentation.

Helo Gert,
This is a nice postcard from Rafina. I also like the "Blue and Yellow" for its minimalistic style.

Hello Gert,
A hotel room with a nice view, you had here. The calm blue sea looks great and the large ferry and the much smaller looking pier stand out perfectly from their blue background. The yellow elements in the photo stand out so well in particular. Excellent vertical composition as well.

hello dear friend and have a nice time
and a happy new week
i am so suprised seeing a photo like
this one bringing holiday memories
yes you did the best by choosing
a very regular postcard
I love the deep blue color of the sea
because the sea is my whole life

Hello Gert
Funny. Looking at the thumbnail of your picture I thought you had taken a picture of one of these many Scandinavian Ferries that uses the same blue-white colours for their boats.
A lovely postcard from Rafina. One that can stand for many other postcards with blue-white ferries and cruise-ships in many harbours.
Have a nice day, Groet Rob

Hi Gert that you? haha
yes, immediately this photo reminded me of him as this is the type of scene he often shows :)

in your WS you liked to show the Swedish Flag colours, here you forgot to show it too, the blue waters or the blue on the ferry, along with the tiny yellow car :)

the small white boat in the lower fg really does help to put the Ferry into scale, I like that.

on a totally different side note, if this was an American scene, most of those vehicles would be large SUV's haha

and I like that you took this in the vertical stance, and you certainly lucked out on the view from the hotel, sweet!

Hello Gert,

good image of this port where the ferry is the main element, you chose a good point of view showing different elements of this place, I like it,

Best regards,

Hello Gert, I suppose that you looked at your archive after my question :). Nice postcard but there are also the people in a small boat with the yellow shirts near the yellow car and higher the yellow chimney. Something that you like - matching colours. Nice view of this ferry just as it left the harbour. I know the name of this second biggest island as Euboea. Excellent sharpness and nice colours. usually I do not like the view of the cars but they make an interesting pattern here. You had a nice view from your hotel, no need to go out for photos :).

Kind regrads MAlgo

Hello, Gert!

I see that the black Smart had no problem finding a place to park here! The view of this big ship is beautiful, and the smoke coming out from it also looks great! The colorful details in the workshops are beautiful! Very nice job!

Hello Gert,
An interesting tip to leave from Rafina to the islands. I've been twice to the Cyclads and left twice from Piraeus.
This is an unusual photo for you. It's a picture I could have taken :)
The breakwater leads us well to the departing ferry boat. I wonder if the mountains on the background are still the mainland or not ...
Best regards, Paul

Greece is always in blue and white and sea, Gert.
Wonderful view of the big cruiser, motion superbly detected and the pic. scaled beautifully from the high point above the pier.
Good afternoon,

*** Monarch was the first airline to fly "charters" in the late 1970th. It first flew to Israel in 1978, if I recall rightly.

Hi Gert
It's a lovely set of three colour-coordinated photos. The ones in the WS almost abstract, the main one less so but also very graphic, especially with the single yellow car at the bottom matching the chimney of the ferry. Well spotted and timed!
And Swedish flag in two of them... :-)
Best wishes
