Nobody ever intended this as a work of art, but when I happened to see this small building in a backyard, and the faded plaster of the large wall behind it, I got an impression of carefully planned design with perfectly matching colours. It looked like a three-dimensional mural.

This is from somewhere in the centre of Riga, capital of Latvia. Riga is a quite big city, with a big city atmosphere, but here and there I saw small buildings, not much bigger than cottages, built long before the Sovjet period and now more than ready to be pulled down after decades of neglect.

Here is a larger version.

In a workshop you can see another peculiarly faded façade in central Riga.

This is the third and last part of this theme. With my next upload I will go back to more beautiful views. ;-)

Bonjour, cher Gert,
Ce gros plan sur ces lucarnes d'un toit en zinc, ces particularités architecturales sont très appréciées, elles sont le témoignage d'une époque et ne manquent pas de charme.
J'apprécie.
Amitiés.
Philippe

Hello Gert,
A fine study in colour and texture captured under a sympathetic ambient light. A limited tonal palette but that makes it all the more attractive. Superb rendering of the textural detail. And, not a person in sight:-)

gert

in some aspects it looks really a mural. nice these discreet colors and these details of the local architecture.

Hi Gert
You are right, this photo looks like a very realistic graffiti. It's almost hard to tell whether the chimney is part of the house or a mural, part of the peeling wall behind.
The facade presented in WS is also very nice but I can see why you chose this artistic shot as the main upload.
You seem to be posting creative architectural images more an more often. I suppose when you say "beautiful views" you mean the special nothing special shots with people in... ;-)
Best wishes
Kasia

Hello Gert,
This close-up photo is beautiful and it shows the tiniest details of the old wooden house and the plaster of the large wall behind it so well and clearly, it does look like a work of art. I love the warm colours a lot too and they are made even stronger in this appealing sunlight.

Hello Gert,
nice the view of this section of the house with the wooden walls ad its tin roof. The wall about it looks renovated and the same time looks like as a modern art of the town.

Hi Gert,2 fantastic pics from the old Riga. Great eyes to take the 2 close up so well. I agree with you for the choice of the main pic, with fine details on the roof windows and a old wall too in background where usually there is the sky...eheh...excellent front view of the wooden facade in the WS.Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Dear Gert,

No, this time it isn't art, just the 'iron teeth of the passing time' (Hungarian proverb). On the other hand, I see your point that it seems like that the passing time have some artistic talent.

Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Gert,

What I really like here is how the bg wall patterns resemble grey chimney smoke perfectly positioned over the chimney and even shaped like an updraft funnel that is wider at the top and narrower at the bottom. Well seen and tfs!

Dobar dan.
Interesantan pogled, dobar tekst ...
Dobar rad sa lepom fotografijom u radionici, lepo pokazana drvena fasada, dobar kontrast i ostrina, lepe boje.

Hello Gert,

This type houses we here see are almost in Belgium disappeared.
But I am as child on a old and broken farm( through the war 1944) become grown-up.
An excellent old architecture image.
Lovely composition an nice presentation too.
Very well done, TFS.

Have a nice day,

Bonjour Gert,

J'aime beaucoup ce plan serré sur cette maison bien compressée entre ses voisines.Les fenêtres ont été changées à des périodes différentes mais le tout est tout de même harmonieux.

Amicalement

It can be really a kind of a street art with 3D effect, very well spotted, it is a strange house, an old facade with new windows

Hello Gert,

I liked the idea of small buildings, from a bygone age, adorning the centre of a big city. These are gems!
I don't know what it is like in Sweden, but in the U.K. old houses, whenever possible are renovated for their unique character and, in the process, become quite valuable. It would be pleasing to hear that these houses were renovated and protected as examples of an earlier style. It just needs an enthusiast and no big city development plans!
You know what they say; 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder', and that is so very true.
Well spotted and captured.

My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Gert, The third photo in the row without people! No one even in the windows. You could clone someone, or the cat at least;). well selected part of the buildings, giving interesting effect with the matching colours and different textures. . What I like here most is the chimney - is it real or painted? Strange that the windows in the lower part are quite new. So the house will not be pulled down.

Kind regrad s Malgo

Hello Gert,I agree with you, there is something attractive about the faded plaster, plus the contrast with the other textures in your shot.
I notice that the lower windows are double glazed UPVC whereas the upper ones are probably still the originals!
The chimney looks in need of some cement work too.
Lovely subtle colours.
Please post more on this theme, it is very interesting.
Regards Jean.

Olá, Gert!

Essa foto ficou sensacional, a nitidez e a luz são espetaculares! O enquadramento é bom, com pequenas partes de paredes nas laterais da foto.
Imagem de alta qualidade!

Hello Gert,
Now we are looking for art in the rust of tin roofs and the peelings of paint from buildings, are we? It is an interesting frame, nevertheless.
Regards,
MT

Those colours.... Fabulous!

Regards, Jan

Ciao Gert, gret view of lovely small building, excellent clarity and fine details, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hi, Gert.
Visually the image looks like a painting and tenically its realization is impeccable, what I miss the most is what would normally be the sky, that here is a background, with several shades and textures, I think it is the wall of another building, which Is behind the facade that we see as close-up.
Very beautiful colorful, in a few tones, very attractive.
Good lighting management and superb sharpness.
Very well done. My congratulations.
All the best and have a good start to the week.
Luis.

Hello, Gert!

Is the chimney drawn on the wall? I'm not quite sure of that looking at the image, because it really looks like a 3D mural! And it really fits perfectly with the architecture of the house! Perfect light and sharpness! Excellent job!

hello Gert
une belle composition, bonne observation et un superbe résultat.
L'art de remettre l'ancien en valeur.
Salutations
Roland

Hi Gert
3 photos in a row without people...i'm starting to enjoy your gallery more and more hahahaha...just joking my friend.

I know i'm only looking at this in a photo, but to me that Chimney is 100% real. We can see shading and textures on it for sure. and you know i'm going to love this scene for what it is...this building is in rough shape and i love that. the colors are strange too, a weird puke green haha
faded paint all over the place, crusty window sills...love it! keep it going
cheers
craig

Hello Gert,
Modern white windows frames stand out contrast to the old wooden structure of the house.
The wall with the peeling plaster gave an excellent sense of depth also contrast the FG façade.
Not the best sight from Riga, but a piece of document from old part of the city.
Good evening and thanks for your supportive critique.

Hello Gert
Certainly a picture of an interesting daily life artwork. You only must have a good eye for the unexpected beauty of the detail. As we say in Dutch: “Looking through the hairs of your eyes” you can see the most fantastic abstract, impressionistic or expressionists scenes in daily life.
I love it.
Groet Rob

Hello Gert,

this is good final contribution to your theme, here it is the photographer work and vision what creates this urban art, I like it,

Best regards,

Sergio

Hi Gert,

The wall in the background is framing well the house. The point of view is showing the details of the house. The light is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.

Pierre

Hello Gert,
Old buildings and facades have so much charm, this one included. Even though this house is old, some of the windows look new. The older ones on top go better with the ambiance of this structure. :-) The patterns on the peeling wall do create a kind of urban art, and I don't mind them at all.

Hi Gert,
Indeed, faded city buildings can look intentional, artistic creations ! All they need is the right eye and camera to catch it :-)
The quasi-monochrome sepia looks perfect. I hope they'll keep it that way.
Thanks for sharing.
Best regards.
Marie-Louise.

Hello Gert When I was a kid I heard the nicest melodies played by the pouring rain on my grandfather's house topped of a tin roof!
That's why I have lot of respect for this dwelling of bygone days! Hjartliga halsningar
