The town of Vila do Conde is located on the bank of River Ave, and the origins are very old, there passed the Romans in the third century and was also settled by Suevos, between the fifth and sixth centuries.
It was during the XV and XVI century that Vila do Conde lived its apogee, with the period and the development of the maritime trade, changing the structure of the locality at a structural, architectural, social and human level.
Cities always connected to the sea there were built the caravels of the time of the Discoveries
The Monastery of Santa Clara, the Aqueduct of 999 arches from the beginning of the 18th century, represents the best that exists in the city's patrimony.
