Salento - Café de Colombia

So far I’ve uploaded 74 main pictures of Colombia and 123 in the workshop and yet no mention of coffee.
Shame on me. After all Colombia is coffee and coffee is Colombia.
Our Brazilian friends on TE may have a different opinion :) After all, taste is subjective.

Coffee can only grow on a limited number of places in the world.
These places lie as a big strip between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, namely in the ‘Coffee Belt’.

The countries within this belt are topographically seen in the ideal location near the equator.
In addition to moisture and heat also the height is very important.
The soft delicate flavour is found back at the Arabica coffee.

Only on a high altitude the Arabica plant can grow. That means that the plant will grow the best coffee berries and coffee beans between 800 meters and 2000 meters above sea level.
Ideal for Colombia where only the tasteful Arabica is grown.

The lower countries in the Coffee Belt can also produce good coffee but only the Robusta plant. The taste of this coffee is a bit bitter and stronger than Arabica.

The touristic village of Salento offers the opportunity to visit a coffee plantation.
There are several plantations in the region and there is even one on walking distance from the village.

Guided tours are interesting and on most plantations possible in Spanish and in English. Check out the language of the tour in advance. Usually the visits are for free since tourists often buy some coffee at the end of the tour. I did too. That coffee was a bit sweeter than usually at home. Here in Belgium coffee is usually a mixture of roasted seeds of two types: Arabica and Robusta.
But the Colombian coffee was very good for a sweet guy like me :)

Unfortunately, the month of July was not a harvest time. The berries were still green. They must be red to harvest.

On the main picture and in the workshop: hills with fields with the coffee plant.
Also in the workshop: the flowers of the plant and some green berries.

Hello Paukl. Wonderful all the pictures with coffee plants. I like the delicate flowers in the WS photo. The wide view of the coffee plantation and bananas is very beautiful, with superb colours and sharpness. I was on the coffee plantation but where it was? Maybe Cuba, or India, I do not remember.
Strange thing: I spent two weeks in Yunnan famous for tea but I haven't see any tea plantation. As in Batumi.

Kind regrad s Malgo

Hallo Paul,
Ik heb net m'n kopje koffie op, dus de timing voor deze foto is uitstekend. Mooi overzicht over de koffieplantage op de hellingen. Het veld wordt mooi omgeven door de verschillende tinten groen in de bomen.

Dobar dan.
Interesantan i lep pogled, dobar tekst ...
dobar rad sa lepim fotografijama u radionici, lepo pokazano, dobar kontrast i perspektiva, lepe boje. Lepa priroda i kuce, lepa plantaza kafe.
Imajte lep dan za odmor, sve najbolje, srecno.

Good day.
Interesting and nice view, good text ...
good work with beautiful photographs of the workshop, beautifully demonstrated, good contrast and perspective, beautiful color. The beautiful nature and the house, a beautiful coffee plantations.
Have a nice day holiday, all the best, good luck.

Bonjour, cher Paul,
Ces grandes feuilles de bananiers au premier plan donnent le ton à la composition.Nous entrons de plain-pied dans une zone de culture avec son environnement végétal particulier.
Belle réussite générale.

Bonjour Paul
I think I need a cup of coffee now. Interesting note on the difference between Arabica and Robusta coffee that goes with your well framed picture of this coffee plantation. The use of the leafs in the foreground gives the composition a good depth and the elevated viewpoint gives a good oversight over the difficult terrain for the farmers to work with.
have a great time

Hello Paul,
I would have to set the alarm clock to be ready for four workshops. ;-)
I didn't think of the coffee before, but I realize now it was missing from your gallery. Four interesting photos showing also a very attractive scenery. I think I would have darkened this photo slightly to make the colours a bit more intense.
Kind regards,

Dag Paul,

Goed foto werk, bedankt.

Groeten uit vrij zonnig Oost-Vlaanderen,

Hello Paul,

What a fine set of photographs.
How did you manage to post four w/s?
Together they reveal a lot of information about coffee growing and your note adds much, too.
I don't know what I expected from a coffee plantation but this one seems very discreet, hidden between the hills and the huge-leafed plants, or maybe that's just the result of your fine composition.
The cafe is well placed in the composition and makes a pleasing focal point.

Have a lovely Sunday,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Paul,

Comme j'en bois au moins trois tasses par jour, je me sens bien en regardant cette belle photo avec les plantations de café à tes pieds. La lumière est toutefois un peu brûlée.

Hello Paul,

this is a typical colombian coffee landscape, you presented well this "hacienda", I like the point of view you chose, good work,

Best regards,

Hello Paul.

The fg banana trees nicely frame the view from this hill. Good repetition of the neat patterns formed by the rows of coffee trees. Excellent sharpness too. Tfs!

Hello Paul, very good view of this interesting coffee plantation, very well composed and captured in this good and beautiful photograph. An interesting image, with good sharpness, depth, light, color and quality. Very good and beautiful work perfectly done, my congratulations, my friend. Thank you for sharing this interesting work.

Good afternoon and happy week.
All the best from the south of Spain.

coffee is brazil for sure.
I was born in the kingdom of the coffee, no any other place produced so many coffee as my region, my father had a plantation. of course this time is gone and other regions of brazil have the crown.
I liked this view with the banana trees in evidence and the coffee trees ahead. the plants don't look so perfect nor green as ours.
nice image.
