Good Morning Everyone,

This is the Chateau d' Usse.

Please click here , it is worth it, to see the much larger, clearer details.

I chose this view as a first post to demonstrate just how strong and imposing it is, with its high walls and tall turrets. I paid more attention to character and composition than style details.

I hope to show you more of its style and features in a later post, for this chateau inspired the Disney Castles

The Château d'Ussé is located in the commune of Rigny-Ussé in the Indre-et-Loire département, in France.
The stronghold, at the edge of the Chinon forest overlooking the Indre Valley, was first fortified in the eleventh century by the Norman seigneur of Ussé, Gueldin de Saumur, who surrounded the fort with a palisade on a high terrace.

Later, the site passed to the Comte de Blois, who rebuilt in stone.

It has had many owners and had substantial changes, especially internally, when, in the seventeenth century Louis I de Valentinay, comptroller of the royal household, demolished the north range of buildings in order to open the interior court to the spectacular view over the parterre terrace, to a design ascribed to André Le Nôtre.

Now, it is a historic monument and though the family owners still live in the chateau, it is open to the public but, by all accounts, it is quite pricey!

Have a lovely day, Bev

Hello Beverley ,
In a street under the castle , you've chosen an excellent angle of view . I like the contrast of the white stone with the greenery and the sky .

Hello Beverley,
What a beautiful photo of this chateau. A great combination of the ivy-clad walls and the many turrets in the background. The sunlight was so wonderful as well.

Good afternoon,

Hello Bev,
Disney was probably inspired, but I also remember this kind of French castles from the books about Babar, the little elephant. It's a beautiful building with all these towers and chimneys, and a very imposing wall with plants growing all over it. There is a fine light shining on all the important areas and the composition is nicely based on a diagonal.
Kind regards,

Bonjour Beverly

Je me souviens très bien de ce château. Je me souviens aussi que ce n'était pas le plus facile à photographier car il se cache derrière un mur et des arbres. Tu as un une très bonne idée avec cette contre plongée.

Hi Bev,
Very nice upper capture of this big castle. I like the colors and the composition. Well taken.

Hello Beverley,
Yesterday I saw another beautiful picture of this castle ... That while I had never heard of it before.
Many towers and chimneys nicely on a row!
The light coloured building blocks in the full sunlight provide a very clear view and an impression of a clean and well maintained castle.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Beverley

A good upward pov in the chateau castle with excellent sharpness and superb framing and composition. The ivy and plants draped around the walls soften the hard outlines of the architecture. Tfs!

Hi Bev
I wanted to get caught up a bit on your gallery.
How does a family still live here but yet also its open to the public, i guess the family doesn't really need to be in every room if its so big! haha And i'm sure they get a portion of the money as well right?

and yes, I like your photo, the high walls, the vines, the power and elegance it displays, its very beautiful. lots of history too, which makes me wish the walls could talk.
lovely light, sky and clouds to bring it all together.
