When I came to see Aljaferia in the morning, the castle was still closed, so I had time to go for a short walk round it. it is very impressive structure from outside. Inside it reminded me the interiors of palaces in Alhambra or Sevilla - the same Mudejar style.

The Aljafería Palace (Qasr al-Jaʿfariya) is a fortified medieval Islamic palace built during the second half of the 11th century in the Taifa of Zaragoza of Al-Andalus, present day Zaragoza .The palace reflects the splendor attained by the kingdom of the taifa of Zaragoza at the height of its grandeur. The palace currently contains the Cortes (regional parliament) of the autonomous community of Aragon.

The structure holds unique importance in that it is the only conserved testimony of a large building of Spanish Islamic architecture of the era of the Taifas (independent kingdoms). So, if a magnificent example of the Caliphate of Córdoba, its Mosque (10th century), and other one of the swan song of the Islamic culture in Al-Andalus, of the 14th century, the Alhambra of Granada, must be included in the triad of the Hispano-Muslim architecture the Aljafería of Zaragoza (11th century) like sample of the realizations of the taifa art, intermediate time of independent kingdoms previous to the arrival of the Almorávides. The Mudéjar remains of the palace of the Aljafería were declared World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2001 as part of the "Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon" ensemble.

The oldest construction of the Aljafería is called Troubadour Tower. The tower received this name from Antonio Garcia Gutierrez’s 1836 romantic drama The Troubadour. The drama was converted into a libretto for Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Il trovatore in 1853.

The tower is a defensive structure, with a quadrangular base and five levels which date back to the end of the 9th century AD.

Hello Malgo,
It's a beautiful castle and maybe more genuine than the one I showed the other day. The light is very nice too, although it hasn't yet reached the area where you were standing. You must have arrived much too early,
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Malgo,
Splendid point of view on this awesome fortification. The early morning light brings out the golden tones and textural detail to optimal effect. The cars, whilst annoying in some respects, supply scale. One of them seems to be a police car.

Hi Malgo, perfect choice of the moment, when the light kiss the palace and the ground is in the shadow, the best way to give importance to this majestic and unique architechture, and as usual the post is completed by the other precious views of the WS.Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Malgo,

What a great different between the nice old castle and the part of modern building beside the castle.
Castles give always the mystical atmosphere.
Wonderful composition and lovely presentation.
Very well done, TFS.

Have a nice day,
John

Ciao Malgo

Cette fortification est vraiment très belle. Ici elle semble sortir de l'ombre pour exploser dans la lumière.Le point de vue bas donne de l'ampleur et la lumière fait le reste.

Amicalement

Hello Malgo,

This castle reminds me a little of the one on the Naples waterfront. Good sharpness and a fantastic blue sky that contrasts so well with the yellow red exterior walls and turrets of the castle. Tfs!

Hi Malgo
oooohhh...ahhhh....this is exactly what I like!
easy to see why you'd want to explore this Castle, it looks fantastic. those 4 large turrets in the front are amazing. and are those modern appartments in the bg on the left? if so, thats pretty funny looking :) Imagine the original builders of the Castle seeing it today in this environment haha. love the shadow and light combinations too. sweet shot. PS, I leave for Portugal tomorrow for 2 weeks :)

Czesc Malgosiu
Piekne kolory, a contrast miedzy oswietlonym budynkiem i ciemnym pierwszym planem tworzy ciekawy nastroj.
Pozdrawiam serdecznie
Kasia

Hi Malgorzata,

The building and the trees are framing well the castle. The popint of view is showing a doubler perspective of the architecture of the castle. The good luminosity is making the colours to stand out. Have a nice day.

Hi Malgo
Impressive beauty, that of this composition with a grandiose POV of this castle-palace, a place that I have to go to know .... ideal as the sun makes it stand out, on a sky of great attraction.
A magnificent color, which gives the image a lot of chromatic richness.
Very good management of lighting and sharpness.
Well done. I like it.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hi again

Nice panoramic shot, but a little too dark?

Regards!

Ciao Malgo
il sole sembra illuminare solo questa antica architettura che sembra sospesa in aria, la parte scura sotto la rende sollevata da terra.
Saluti
Carlo

Hi Malgo,

What a beauty of castle and with this sunbath it is more atractive against the blue sky. Very nice picture!

malgorzata

I visited this building, but it was being restored in that time. nice this external view showing the shapes of the beautiful structure under a perfect light. TFS.

hugs

Hello Malgo,
The aljaferia is surely one of the most beautiful constructions in Zaragoza.
The light on this morning view is fantastic. It creates a wonderful strong colour contrast between the walls/towers and the blue sky and also the dark foreground.
Funny that the castle was closed when you arrived there. Also when I came there. I remember I also had to wait but if I'm not mistaken it was in the afternoon.
Best regards, Paul
