Plaza de Santo Domingo, el Realejo, Granada, Spain.

For some reason, the scene reminded me of the parable of the good Samaritan, though the "victim" doesn't look naked or beaten, and the passer-by isn't a priest and probably not a Levite!

I was also thinking of calling this "The Rain in Spain", but thought better of it.

Founded in the 16th century by the Catholic Monarchs, Iglesia de Santo Domingo (just seen in the background where the vagrant is sheltering) is considered one of the most interesting churches in Granada. It forms part of the Santa Cruz la Real Monastery, where the Spanish Inquisition held its sessions, and it was the resting place of noble Granada families for centuries.

Hi Will, very nice pic! The weather is like in my country this morning,a sad rainy day....but it's perfect for a scene like that,in effect there is something that remind the parable....but the actors are differents,in particular the "victim" seems a sosia of Marty Feldman..ehehe...well done! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Will,
Despite what many people think a rainy day can make for some interesting and successful photographs as you clearly demonstrate here. The two protagonists are ideally placed in the frame creating a sort of unstated relationship between them. Excellent conversion to black and white.

Hello Will,
While my eyes are drawn immediately to the woman with the umbrella I soon realize that it's the connection (or lack of) between her and the man sitting in the doorway that makes this composition. Rarely has a B&W conversion suited a photo better than this. Maybe she was brightly dressed, but colours would not have added anything to this weather in the mainly dark and grey environment. I guess you saw the man first and waited for a suitable person to come walking by. It was hardly the other way around, was it?
Kind regards,

Hello Will,

This is a brilliant piece of street photography and an image which "works" so very well in black and white. There's no doubt that the dull wet weather has also played a part in providing some excellent tones, contrasts and textures too.

I presume that you spied the fellow squatted in the church doorway and waited until a suitable passer-by passed you - and your timing was perfect. I like how the young lady's eyes are averted - perhaps from the vagrant on account of feelings of guilt - or perhaps from you on account of her coyness - or maybe both.

A fabulous photograph, perfectly seen with perfect timing, composition and wonderful technical quality.

Kind Regards,

Hello Will
So close and yet there is a world between these two people..
Excellent B&W...good light and contrast

Hello Will,

I like the daily life picture with the lady and her umbrella but also the man against the door of the church.
Also the floor before has a nice design.
Sharpness and clarity are wonderful.
Composition and presentation are perfect.
Very well done, TFS.

Best regards,

Bonjour Will,

Certes, une des plus belles photos de la journée. Le noir et blanc lui sied à merveille.Le lien entre les deux protagonistes est bien établi et donne de la profondeur à la composition sous la pluie.

hello Will ,
You've a very goo eye for street scene .
great composition in B&W , and great capture by a sad rainy day .

Dear Will,

You made an eye-catching composition of this everyday scene. Though the man in the gate should be more worried I guess, the face of the woman shows that she has her problems too. Or maybe she is very tired after working hours. We will never know...

Best Wishes,

Fantastique vue et image quelle dame et sons parapluie et en fond l'homme qui se protège de la pluie assis superbe.
Bravo et amitié

Hi Will
First of all, I have to say this is a photo that makes a strong impact. Its also surprising, because in the small thumbnail gallery, you think you're gonna be looking at the woman with the umbrella, then you notice the sitting man in the bg in the large format.

that was unexpected.

there's just an underlining motif or mood here that is wanting to be spoken, but its hidden. The juxtaposition between the 2 main characters play off each other so well.
excellent shot

Hello Will,

'Just walk on by' ... came to mind.
It's a fine shot showing two figures nicely spaced in the shot. Though the f/g figure is giving no eye contact, there is a link from the crouched figure, which makes it all the more poignant.
B&W adds to the sense of desolation from the crouched figure, there is little colour in his rain-speckled life!

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi Will
Good timing! The many facets of life as people go about the day. I like the hint of juxtaposition here highlighting the contrast between the two with a story to tell. Excellent candid shot, very good focus and composure, and the use of mono version works a treat here. Congrats
Best wishes

Hello Will,
just a quiet daily life scene in the long life of this elegant and timeless setting, also a suggestive depiction of the political and financial effects in our era. The juxtaposition is striking, the contrast also brings the two persons so close, like the two sides of a coin. The viewer is inevitably involved and, whether they linger on the scene or not, they start thinking about it. It's amazing that all that comes so naturally but this is due to your composition and monochrome treatment. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

Hello Will
Excellent observation and presentation of the lady with the umbrella walking full of confident and the figure in front of the door trying to hide him/herself for the rain.
I would have cropped one cm of the left side.
Very attractive result.
Groet Rob

Ciao Will

Hello Will, Such a rainy cold day is not the best for sightseeing, specially if we think about Andalucia, usually hot and sunny, but it is the time for interesting observations and good photos. beautiful composition with this lady in warm coat and umbrella and the man probably shivering from cold and looking for shelter under the arches.
The pavement here also look s attractive with these shining stones. Superb picture.
I visited many places in granada, but I am afraid I missed this beautiful church.

One of your lovely black and white shots. Not sure I've seen this one before.
The discrepancy between lifestyles, so to speak, dominates the mood of the photo. Even though the squatting figure in the distance is not that obvious at first.
All he best

what? Granada? I thought it never rained in Andalucia! :)
I am just reading a novel set in Granada in 1492, at the end of the Moorish domination - well, I read many similar novels and each time it's like I am back there, amazed by the sound of water in the gardens, the smell of jasmine, under the sun, up and down the Albaicin...
anyway - I like very much the calm play of the various patterns - the stripes of the umbrella, the chequered floor, the lacy stockings.
this is one of those pictures where we can read something into a moment captured by the camera - a happy coincidence that you were quick to capture with your camera :)

Hola dear Will

Excellent choice with the B&W, accentuating the textures and graphism of the pavement. I like how you positioned your beautiful subject and how you have caught her mid-step. A dynamic, timeless photo, well done.

Hello Will,

Somehow this photography is touching me, it feels gloomy and sad... very well captured my friend and you put them in Black and White which matches the view and the feeling, very smart indeed. Hope you have a bright day there!

Best Regards,

Helo dear friend and have a nice time

Hi Will!
Great idea to frame them this way. He looks a little happier than her and I like the way they are looking in opposite directions. Many interesting details around. It's perfect in b&w and I even the rain added a lot to the mood.
