This is another view of Bideford longbridge taken at just after 4.30 pm on a dismal November day.

Long Bridge is a Grade I listed ancient monument spanning the River Torridge, connecting the east and west parts of Bideford. It was constructed originally from timber around 1286, and required regular reconstruction. Between 1460 and 1500 a masonry bridge was built around the wooden one, which allowed the old structure to act as scaffolding for the new work while remaining open to traffic.
Long Bridge has 24 pointed arches, varying in span from 3.7m to 7.6m. The differing spans reflect the different lengths of timber used for arch lintels in the underlying original structure. The bridge piers vary from 2.7m to 3.7m in thickness.

Hello Les,
I like the atmosphere created by the mix of warm and cool lighting and the reflections from the car lights on the wet roadway. Perfectly exposed with superb colours and clarity. The lady on the bridge seems very interested in what you are doing.

Hello Leslie,
nice the night view of Bideford longbridge with the lights on especially of the backdrop constructions to make the shot even more effective. The history of the bridge as i wrote from your informative note is coming from 1286!!

Regards,Danos

Hlelo Les,
This is another fine photo from that remarkable bridge. There are lots of nice reflections of the light from lamps and cars. I like the inclusion of the person with the cane and several of the buildings, especially to the left, look very interesting. The "otel" makes me wonder if the owner is Turkish ;-).
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Les

I have to admit that I personally prefer this style to your more "worked" images! The atmosphere here is equisitely dismal as you say, but made visually appealing by the lights. I can feel the chill in the air.

Regards

Will

Hello Leslie,
A wet day, "dismal" as you say - but that's created a marvelous texture with the late afternoon illuminations.
The lit part on mid-picture is in fine contrast to the beautiful architecture's design of the old building across the bridge. Beautiful two towers, one with a clock shining perfect round shape.
Good evening,
Ike

everyhting is magnificent

and the reflections too
regards

Hello Leslie,

It doesn't surprise me that you use the adjective dismal, in relation to November! We seem to have had a very grey, wet time even if it hasn't been particularly cold!
However, since the sun has set, the dark sky is quite normal and the reflected lights make the whole scene very welcoming!
You have chosen a good aspect which uses the road over the bridge as a very effective lead which ends at a strong disappearing point. For a scene with limited light, you have collected the details sharply.

My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Leslie,

Hello Leslie,

The dismal days are coming, certainly the last days with a lot of rain also in Belgium.
But we see very clear a part of the city and the road with care for depth and perspective.
An excellent architecture picture too.
Wonderful panorama view about the area.
An excellent presentation too.
Very well done, TFS.

Best regards,
John.

On the wet pavement the lights and colours are incredibly strong reflected.
A beautiful tower in the left upper corner.
Very good clarity and sharpness.

Hi Leslie!
The wet ground gave you very nice reflections. It's a nice composition with the city in background - there are many interestings buildings there and the woman is also very well placed.

Hi Les,
beautiful full of atmosphere evening photo!
I like very much the reflexes in the wet pavement! I like that effect although it is usually hard to capture as usually it rains at the same time...
Lovely architecture here, the person watching you adds some life as well.
Excellent work!!

Hello Les,
you are offering us a very vivid and interesting impression of the cityscape and its atmosphere in this photo. You've structured your composition in a neat, dynamic and effective way, fixed and moving elements are well placed, interest and colours are distributed in a pleasing way. I like that there are warm lights both inside the buildings and in the street, they create an agreeable, warm mood. Depth and details are superb, the whole view is inviting. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
ourania
