Again a visit to one of the most beautiful cities of Flanders.
Ghent has a lot of beautiful places, the first springtime day was pleasant for to bring a visit to the market and the buildings around the market place.
Also the tables and chairs were for the first time present for 2015.

I hope that you can enjoy of the picture with different towers in background and the big statue of Jacob Van Artevelde in the centre of the market

The "weekly" market has been held since 1199 on Friday morning. Here playing off the main part of public life, both politically and socially. The regular use of the Friday Market was reserved through the centuries to the markets of all kinds. The Friday market was thé square suited for large collections of people and festivities and was the setting for official receptions of princes and other dignitaries, which the market had to give way. [
In the Middle Ages did the counts of Flanders here their numerous Glad Income and swore while respecting the prerogatives of the city (which they did not, except under duress). "Joyful" because they had peacetime location and because the so festive touted princes (mostly) came with good intentions. Here, both the festivities organized, as the fighting out of bloody feuds between the guilds where many old guild houses are standing around the square. Such a battle was fought on May 2, 1345 between the guilds of the weavers and fullers a wage dispute. This day in history was known as Evil Monday because when 500 fullers along with their blanket fell.
The Friday market was also the scene of numerous executions. In recent beheading of a certain Van Butsel convicted of parricide, happened in 1822. It was first cut off his right hand, then he died under the knife of the guillotine.

Hello dear John,
You do not post as often as I do, but once when you add a new entry to your gellery it's absolutely a topclass one. Like this one from Gent.
The capture itself is selfexplanatory and at its best regardsing photographic qualificaitons but what is more than this; the balance between quality and quantity.
Gent has absolutely by far less popuklation than ?stanbul but the cleanlyness and shnyy look says everything. Even if those chairs anda tables are only a few months old !
TFS and have a nice week ahead

Hello Jean,
This is a lovely presentation of this square in Ghent. The tables and chairs in the FG are inviting and a very good place to view the beautiful buildings and market. Excellent quality picture.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hello John,

It is good to see open air cafes, it produces an impression of relaxation and tranquillity. There are no people there yet; was it too early for food or was it still too cold to sit outside?
You have created a very calm mood to your very well composed photograph. Despite the no number of people, there is no rush, no panic, just a very unhurried day.
I like how those wonderful buildings create a backstop, keeping all the interest in the market place.
As always, the colours and the clarity are first rate.

Have a lovely week,
Bev :-)

Hello John,
Your informative note complements the composition perfectly. I like the point of view looking across the chequered tablecloths; also the lively atmosphere. The church towers make a very effective focal point. The image is ideally exposed and has excellent colours and clarity. Thanks for sharing.

Hi John,

The wideness of the market place is giving depth to the composition. The presence of the people isanimating the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings Have a nice day.

Hello John,

This lively place is well presented ans the tables are an invitation to stay for a while and have something nice to eat or drink. The light and colors are lovely and the architecture makes a nice background.

Best regards

Dag John,
Gent is niet alleeen een hele mooie maar ook een hele gezellige stad. Uw foto toont ons beide kwaliteiten volledig. Het zachte zonlicht doet het hier geweldig.
Groet, Gerrit

Hi John,

Nice, although markets can only be guessed!

What do you think about title:
No guests on Fridays (due to the market?)!

Hi John
Irresistible, this colourful square as famous as the canals, so photogenic and very self contained. Like the fresh colours rendition and the architecture in the backdrop, this was obviously a good weather day full of subtle light and shadows. Just fab to look! Congrats
Best regards

BOnjour John,

Hello John,
This is a lovely square with a fine view towards the towers and the statue. The red and white tables provide a nice foreground, although the café is strangely empty. Maybe it was too early in the day, or maybe the air was too chilly. The trees, still without any leaves, fill the sky nicely and the mild colours are generally very pleasant.
Kind regards,

Hello John
Wonderful view of this square in Ghent.
Photo rich of beautiful details.
A real festival of colors, perfect lighting.
Excellent composition and presentation.

Good evening John,
Pink and red tones added much charm to the market scene on the wide square. People moving around and excelent visibility all the way to far side, under good winter daylight - all culmnate beautifully on photo, which all its space filled.
Cheers for a charming picture.

Hello John, a very inviting scene!
A lovely place to sit and watch the world go by.
Great depth achieved. The towers in the bg are an excellent backdrop. The colours look very natural.

Hello John,
this picture is truly elegant, wondering through the scene is very pleasant. The pastel colours are delightful and there are loads of interesting details all over. I like how the characteristic elements of the scenery complement each other in your composition, how excellent depth and perspective draw us in. An enjoyable daily life scene in this fine setting. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,

Hello John,

Marvelous photo of this market place with the supporting spires and people. Very well composed and definitely a winner. I have never been to Ghent, but I was in Brussels when you hosted the World's Fair with the Atomium structure viewed by all. I think it was called Expo 58. I was a Captain in the US Army at the time.

I wrote you a comment about your perspective relative to my lens, versus yours, but decided I didn't want to offend you. You do a fine job in your presentations, but I miss many of these good pictures as I am addicted to golf.

Kindest Regards, Roger

Keep up the good work.

Hello John,
Superb picture of that market place with a nice touch of spring atmosphere. Many beautiful things to see in your picture. Nice colorful foregroud with all these tables and chairs. The great architecture of the buildings in the background completes perfectly well the decor. TFS.

Hi John,
What a wonderfully crisp capture of this cafe. The colors and detail are extraordinary. Very well done my frien.
Warm regards,

Hallo John,
Echt klasse!
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi John,
beautiful town indeed. There are so many attractive buildings squeezed in this one scene. Stylish townhouses and elegant towers. Finally the tables make a relaxing foreground and the naked trees decorate the relatively uniform sky.

Hello John,
the well arranged tables and chairs are an open invitation to photograph, even if there are very few takers they do contribute greatly to your beautifully composed winter scene.
The skeletal trees and attractive buildings are also key ingredients of a fine photograph.

Hi John!

I like very much how this image reflected Gent history...it shows how could live together the ancient buildings, the histoy, the memories and the culure, with modern times, let´s see terrace and people...and there is a line from ancient times until today...filled by this market that has been there for so many years until today...

It would be great to have a timelapse capture from 1199 until today!! ;)

Have a nice day.

Hello John,

Ghent is most certainly an attractive city in Flanders. Good sharpness and I am sure once the market closes all the customers will flock back to the empty al fresco dining area in the fg. Maybe it is too cold outdoors anyway. I know a lot of places have semi enclosed areas protected from the wind and sleet with heating stoves. Tfs.

It must be early since people are still coming to this market. Produce market is becoming popular in Las Vegas. I like your pov and it has good dof with nice details. Wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.

Hello John,
The tables are dressed for lunch, but the customers don't seem to be too keen on sitting outside on this early day of March (Well, I guess it has to be empty sometimes;). The sun is shining and the architecture is attractive with lots of interesting detail to enjoy. Beautiful perspective with the buildings and the cobbled square. The many people walking about bring this photo to life. Well done.

The tables are ready, covered for the guests, but it is probably still to cold to sit outside, they are empty. Excellent view of this square in Gent. Beautiful buildings in the background, nice monument. This Friday market doesn't seem specially big, but better to have it than the executions. Guillotine, brr.
