In the gardens of Giant Wild Goose Pagoda during a very foggy and rainy day

Giant Wild Goose Pagoda or Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Chinese: 大雁塔),is a Buddhist pagoda located in southern Xi'an, Shaanxi province, China. It was built in 652 during the Tang Dynasty and originally had five stories, although the structure was rebuilt in 704 during the reign of Empress Wu Zetian and its exterior brick facade was renovated during the Ming Dynasty. One of the pagoda's many functions was to hold sutras and figurines of the Buddha that were brought to China from India by the Buddhist translator and traveler Xuanzang.

Surroundings and history

The original pagoda was built during the reign of Emperor Gaozong of Tang (r. 649-683), then standing at a height of 54 m (177 ft).[1] However, this construction of rammed earth with a stone exterior facade eventually collapsed five decades later. The ruling Empress Wu Zetian had the pagoda rebuilt and added five new stories by the year 704; however, a massive earthquake in 1556 heavily damaged the pagoda and reduced it by three stories, to its current height of seven stories. The entire structure leans very perceptibly (several degrees) to the west. Its related structure, the 8th century Small Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an, only suffered minor damage in the 1556 earthquake (still unrepaired to this day). The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda was extensively repaired during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) and renovated again in 1964. The pagoda currently stands at a height of 64 m (210 ft) tall and from the top it offers views over the current city of Xi'an.

Hello dear Danos,
It's good to dig in the archives from time to time.
This one from 2007 taken in China is also very nice.
Specially the blossoming trees and the lady with the pink umbralla at the center adds a fine taste to your compo.
TFS and have a nice day ahead

Bonjour Danos
cette photo prise sous la pluie a un charme certain; les arbres en fleur égaient l'endroit qui déjà a l'air sympa, cette femme et son parapluie rose et de jolis reflets sur le sol mouillé
Belle réalisation

Hi Danos, not lucky with the weather but lucky to be there in springtime, when the first flowers appears on the trees.A nice capture of this curious pagoda made in a very rich architechture, the quality of pic is perfect too despite the dark light,i like it! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Danos,

We cannot always have perfect weather and, as your photograph shows, it is possible to take excellent photographs in the rain. You have shown us the pretty spring flowers being 'showered', an unusual subject on here.
The features have been expertly place in the composition, for good f/g interest and to backstop the interest. The little splashes of pink and red colour guide attention around the scene.

Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Dobar dan.
Lep pogled i trenutak ...
Vrlo interesantan i dobar tekst o pagodi sa istorijom i opisom ...
Dobar trenutak snimka i kontrast, lepo pokazano mesto, drvece sa cvetovima i stara arhitektura u danu sa kisom.
Dobar rad i kompozicija, lepe boje.
Imajte lep i uspesan dan, sve najbolje sa lepim secanjem na posetu pagode.

Bonjour, cher Danos,
Malgré la pluie, le charme opère d'une belle façon. Il faut dire que les arbres en fleurs bénéficient d'une beauté particulière.
Très bonne journée.

Hi Danos,

The rain is giving a mood to the picture. The presence of the person is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the dteails of the pagoda. The cloudy sky is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Danos,
The garden has an environment of great beauty. Beautiful architecture.
best wishes,

Bonjour Danos,

Good evening

Hello Danos, very good picture of this interesting composition in the pretty courtyard with interesting buildings, beautifully captured in this beautiful image with good sharpness, depth, good light, color and quality. Very good and interesting job well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.

Good night and happy week.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

Hello Danos,
Though the weather was not on your side that day, you managed a fine composition showing the pagodas in a beautiful environment. The trees in blossom add a positive element to this shot and the pink umbrellas make a wonderful eye-catching feature. The reflections of the pagodas in the puddles complete this very pleasing image.
Have a nice day.

Hello Danos,
A amazing view of this interesting place.Nice photo from your archive. Thank you for detailed notes.Very well done.

Hello Danos,
This is a nicely composed shot of this pagoda. The magnolia trees in the foreground add depth for the scene as well as natural framing. Too bad the weather did not cooperate, but you still managed to capture a fine image.

Hello Danos,
If it weren't for the flowers on the trees, i would think this is a winter photo. The reflections off the wet walkways are remarkable.

Salam dear Danos,

it is a new post from past time, very beautiful Spring shot from the place,

the composition and details are really perfect,

All the Best and Thanks!

Yours Sincerely, ***

Dear Danos,
Despite the rain, the charm is in a beautiful way. Admittedly, flowering trees have a special beauty.

Chinese architectures are so ornate and beautiful even the rain cannot take the beauty away. Beautiful spring capture with nice details. Well done, tfs.

Hi Danos.
Superb POV, what captures all the charm and atmosphere of the East, ideal style of construction, sorry for the rain, but at least the trees in bloom give a nice touch to the picture.
Also, both sharpness and lighting are great.
Well taken photo. I like
Enjoy a good day.
Best wishes.

Hallo Danos,

Hello Danos,

The pink umbrella and the white flowers make this image appealing in this rainy mood. The wet pâvement allows for some reflections and the background architecture is interesting.

Hi Danos

You might want to amend the title showing 'Beijing'. Xian is in the province of Shaanxi. Good pp work on the sky. A free tip to minimise the slight white halo in the sky. Go inside the border, of the horizon, with the laso and select 'highlights' You only need to go in about 1/8 of an inch over the horizon line. That way the midtones and shadows won't be affected. The lady with the pink umbrella animates the shot. Good sharpness and nice to see Wild Goose Pagoda which I missed when I visited. Tfs!

Hello Danos! It is raining. Fine umbrella. Fine lightness and natural colours. Good contrast and sharp. Good picture. Well done!

Geia sou Danos
The pouring rain added a touch of reflected magic to this spring scenery, proliferating blossoms on the footpath; so the lady holding a pink umbrella can think she is a queen waking on a carpet of flowers!
Se xereto.

Dear Danos
It's beautiful blooming trees in the foreground and a fantastic Chinese architecture in the background.
An interesting atmosphere in a rainy day.
People with umbrellas are a bonus.
Great photos.
All the best.
Kind regards

Hi Danos
Un joli retour en arrière même s'il pleuvait ce jour là, le parapluie rose attire le regard , comme les reflets sur le sol humide, belle composition
Belle soirée

Dear friend
Very nice with beautiful background Tree blossom, tranquility Photo Experience the good old days, and the life. Enjoy

It was a rainy day Danos, a lady holding a pink umbrella was walking in the pagoda yard, splendid architecture

Hello, Danos,
I see it was grey rainy day, but the spring photo is cool!
I like this clever composition, a person with umbrella is good bonus here.
I am going to Philippines in October, 1 and I have one day for Beijing too.
Best wishes,
