It'äs nice to see you back here. Yes, news are depressing these days, but at least I enjoy watching some good photos now and then. This is an excellent street-shot, the kind I would have enjoyed taking, with a very good background behind the reading gentleman. The sign showing the opening hours doesn't really mean a thing here, but it's that kind of detail that can make a picture so interesting just by being there.
PS I like the reference to that great song, one of the best they ever made.

A very well observed shot, where careful composition is obvious in the interesting study of this gentleman. It's a moment too good to miss, especially as he is totally unaware that he is being studied!
I love the Beatles words and music.
Did you see the programme on Monday of the 50th anniversary of them being on the Ed Sullivan Show?
My warm regards,

Hi Rosemary. I just read the morning news on the net and I feel about it just like this fellow. The world has gone mad- we have just had "terror raids" in Sydney and Brisbane. Propaganda from our politicians in order to justify our subservience to America.Raids a day or two after the PM said that there is no imminent threat to our citizens, but still here we go persecuting our Muslim population in Australia, driving them into a corner. Love your title and his polished shoes. if only the world was like dusty shoes where we could just brush the annoyances away without loss of life and billions of dollars. Regards. Klaudio.
Excellent street shot, so sharp and clear and superbly composed. The news are often so depressing. So you went to England again? Any metings with TE frineds? Rich lives so near.

I'm so pleased that you got back home safely, so now we'll be able to enjoy seeing all the pictures you took during your trip to Old Blighty last month!
This is a lovely "candid" street shot, very well taken and with such a simple background that it isn't in the slightest distracting - so we can focus all our attention on the man as he screws up his face and gleans some more improbable information from his tabloid newspaper.
Lovely light, tones and contrasts and exceptional details and sharpness in this image which works so very well in black and white.

Mono works better, as it gives the shot contrast which is perhaps quite low in the original and more importantly it appears easier on the eye. The posture and the expression are the most intriguing parts, but possibly one way to keep the bench for all himself! Anyway tis is an excellent street candid at capturing the precise moment, Congrats.

this title was always going to grab my attention. The "Fab 4" at their very best and a song that stands head and shoulders above what sometimes passes as music nowadays. The world does seem to be in a bit of a state again doesn't it? We seem to be slipping back into a Cold War Era once again and I do not understand why. If only the solutions were B&W like this fine image, but unfortunately it is not that simple.

C'était à l'époque où les Beatles sont devenus vraiment bons, Leurs textes prenaient de la substance.La photo est belle et l'utilisation du noir et blanc donne un petit côté documentaire intéressant.

Lovely scene. The man's facial expression while reading the news is fitting the crazy times we live in. Yeah, the world got mad...
Have a fine evening.

Great to see you post :)
Interesting subject too, this man is making a face that we all know, and god knows Thereis enough bad news in the world to make all 7 billion of us do this at the same time, but at the same time, it's a serious picture but I find humour in it too, your timing is perfect and there is nothing posed about this mans expression, and that makes it really cool. It is nice to see the man is close to a library, so perhaps hen he tires of the repetitive evil of the news, he an pop inside and take some fight relief in something more pleasant. Great choice in black and white too.
Thanks for your visit to my gallery too, hope all is really well with you.

A great song of the Beatles and I remember also the rock-solid video clip.
Beautiful daily life-picture in black & white and well presented in a good composition.
Best regards, Paul

I have to admire photographers who do these types of scenes.
I still have to 'train' my eye to see such scenes and notice the value of them.
For this one, its all about the facial expression.
the lean to his right and the grimace is awesome - from our point of view anyways!
nice shot, great catch!

une très belle scène, et bon cadrage.

Great to have you back around the TE pages again too! Happy to hear you also had a good time with other TE members, and I look forward the pictures that will follow. :)
A fun start with this one, is he grimacing because of the story he's reading, or the fact it's actually a hard copy print and not something electronic? lol
A wonderful observation of not only the daily life moment, but the graphic appeal provided by the horizsontal lines of the bench and vertical pattern of the backdrop. Great use of black & white as well, making it all the more effective. Hope all has been well. Take good care, and thanks for following along our laughs on FB. :)

welcome back after a long absence, I'm sure you brought with you many lovely experiences and photos. I like this simple scene very much, your capture is so natural and straightforward. Even though the gentleman isn't aware of your lens, there's great contact with the viewer who feels interest and compassion. Your picture has timeless appeal not only due to the fine monochrome but also because viewers will always associate the subject's reaction to some current news that has affected them in the same way. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend,

So you're back Rosemary!
maybe he is waiting for the library to open and is consulting the houses prices and is absolutly astonished. Good tight framing, with the off centered bench equilibated by the library advert, the B&W mood concentrates the eye on the scene.
have a nice WE

Glad that you made it back home safely. It was great seeing you, Rich (and Dee) and John - sorry the weather wasn't better when we met. The weather has been fabulous recently. This is a great image and the timber framing makes a graphic BG for this man reading the paper. An excellent composition for b/w. The newspaper lying on the bench adds balance. Nicely polished shoes!
Best wishes, Ann
