After a week in South Germany in Bayern and Baden-Wurttemberg,return with a lot of beautiful photos but under difficult lighting conditions. The weather was rainining the most of the days as cloudy too.

This is the right-back side of the castle as was taken from a hanged bridge on the right. Its entance is between the lower towers on the right.

Schloss Neuschwanstein

Neuschwanstein Castle (German: Schloss Neuschwanstein, English: "New Swanstone Castle" is a nineteenth-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as a homage to Richard Wagner. Ludwig paid for the palace out of his personal fortune and by means of extensive borrowing, rather than Bavarian public funds.

The palace was intended as a personal refuge for the reclusive king, but it was opened to the paying public immediately after his death in 1886.Since then more than 61 million people have visited Neuschwanstein Castle.More than 1.3 million people visit annually, with as many as 6,000 per day in the summer. The palace has appeared prominently in several movies and was the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle and later, similar structures.

The municipality of Schwangau lies at an elevation of 800 m (2,620 ft) at the south west border of the German state of Bavaria. Its surroundings are characterized by the transition between the Alpine foothills in the south (toward the nearby Austrian border) and a hilly landscape in the north that appears flat by comparison.

In the Middle Ages, three castles overlooked the villages. One was called Schwanstein Castle. In 1832, Ludwig's father King Maximilian II of Bavaria bought its ruins to replace them with the comfortable neo-Gothic palace known as Hohenschwangau Castle. Finished in 1837, the palace became his family's summer residence, and his elder son Ludwig (born 1845) spent a large part of his childhood here.

Vorderhohenschwangau Castle and Hinterhohenschwangau Castle sat on a rugged hill overlooking Schwanstein Castle, two nearby lakes (Alpsee and Schwansee), and the village. Separated only by a moat, they jointly consisted of a hall, a keep, and a fortified tower house. In the nineteenth century only ruins remained of the twin medieval castles, but those of Hinterhohenschwangau served as a lookout place known as Sylphenturm.

The ruins above the family palace were known to the crown prince from his excursions. He first sketched one of them in his diary in 1859.When the young king came to power in 1864, the construction of a new palace in place of the two ruined castles became the first in his series of palace building projects.Ludwig called the new palace New Hohenschwangau Castle only after his death was it renamed Neuschwanstein. The confusing result is that Hohenschwangau and Schwanstein have effectively swapped names: Hohenschwangau Castle replaced the ruins of Schwanstein Castle, and Neuschwanstein Castle replaced the ruins of the two Hohenschwangau Castles.

Bonsoir Danos,

It happened to us exactly a year ago, when we were in south Germany, 6 out of 7 days were rainy days, Danos.
Nevertheless, you managed a beautiful picture froman excelent POV over this known castle.
Impressive edifice, fine outlines and well collected with the surrounding landscape scenery.

Hi Danos
this is a superb view of the historic castle with perfect framing and exposure under difficult light. The sharpness and details are excellent and the clouded sky adds fantastic atmosphere to the photo. Your note is interesting and informative too.

Impressive panorama of the Neuschwanstein castle. picture is well done with a perfect blend of color, brightness and contrast.

Ciao Danos
Ciao e buona serata

Hello Danos,

The light was not very good, but the picture is nice.

Bonsoir, cher ami Danos,
Bravo !

Hello Danos, lovely view of this beautiful castle, very well captured with a great pov, since Marienbrück, in this great and beautiful picture. A pretty picture of a lovely place that brings back fond memories, very good sharpness, depth and quality. A great job well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.

Good night and happy rest of the week.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

Witaj Danos!
The well-known castle, well shown.
Excellent POV and colors.
I like it.
Good evening

Hello Danos,

This is an impressive view of this castle. Lot's of clouds but it is as if they had taken the color of the castle. A strange and beautiful effect. The colors are well saturated and the lack of ligh have not affected the quality of the details.

Best regards

beautiful, eye-catching and has a beautiful view, Magnificent architecture and unique design
Best wishes to you

Hello dear friend

you to all of us
superb view of this historic castle
with useful notes excellent pov
have a nice time

Hello Danos,
This is a very nice presentation of the famous castle.
You looked for a good high POV from where we can see the castle rising out of the trees and overlooking the valley.
Despite the bad weather the picture is very clear and shows the details very well.
The sky is grey but the different cloud formations make a beautiful backdrop.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Danos,
Your photo is showing off the beauty of this place well. The exposure looks great of the great architecture behind this marvellous castle. The framing is very good and the light exposure is excellent, such as the sharpness is.

Ciao Danos

Hi Danos,

The distance between the castle and the river is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and the colors of the architecture of the Neuschwanstein castle. Have a nice day.

Hello Danos,
This is truly the setting for fairy tales. Lovely capture, the sky is magical.

Hi Danos
A magnificent castle nicely apportioned across that I can appreciate the immaculate details so much better and majestic so well set off to the surroundings. Inclusion of lush green foreground detail does add the extra feature, depth and overall interest. What a mouth watering sky to complete this delightful capture! Indeed a competent lens works as usual, Congrats.
Best regards

Dear Danos,

Beautiful scene. Wow...
I like it very much. A very nice and typical German architecture with great colours and background scenes. Congrats.

Hi Danos
Great photo in not so great light. And a wonderful POV too.
The background scene is heavenly.
Have a great day.

Hello Danos,
Beautiful capture of this fairy-tale castle with nice crisp detail and a very nice view of all the area surrounding it. It has a superb location. The sky looks great with those chunky clouds. Good balance between the greenery and sky as well. Great colour and point of view. A true postcard image.
Kind regards,

Hi Danos.
A wonderful composition with a broad perspective of this well-known and not for the less fantastic, we always enjoy viewing, the cloudy sky gives a nice dramatic touch instead.
An image for recreation, with its beautiful colorful, high brightness and perfect sharpness.

Exceptionnal POV and a truly fantastic castle picture with ominous sky giving it a stron atmosphere.
Well done

Hi Danos,
The ultimate castle! Any lover of castle architecture must surely wish to see this place in person, and because of its fairytale design, I think the cloudy sky suits the image even more than a sunny day would, it adds an element of drama and mood, which is perfect for a place like this. Beautiful high viewpoint, this is a fantastic shot of the place. Really nicely done.
Best wishes

Looks like this castle is growing out of the forest and thanks for the wonderful information. Nicely captured with good details. Very well done, tfs.

Hi Danos,

I have a few pictures of this myself, none of which turned out this well though. An amazing view of what is probably the most well known castle in the world...enough so that Disney used its design in replica. An inspiring setting and wonderful result, showing Neuschwanstein in her glory. The heavy clouds and muted light give the scene an mystical atmosphere, and one which is very alluring. Very well taken and presented! Enjoy the weekend ahead. All the best.

Friendly wishes,

Ludwig II had probably a strong linking to melagomania!
But anyways, this humble dwelling appears as a magnificent jewel sprouting out of the mountain trees!
You've been lucky for such a judicious point of view that shows its splendor without visual parasite over a bucolic decor.
I consider those dramatic clouds add an emotion touch to this superb scenery.
Welcome back.

You've captured this scene very well by a good composition and bright tone, so it's interesting and impressive to see beautiful castle with elegant shape. The whole is harmonized well by beautiful color & light balance. And, the contrasting cloudy sky draws out an additional good atmosphere, too.

Hi Danos,
beautiful presentation of this iconic castle. I had the pleasure to visit it several times as I lived in Munich for 4 years but it was such a long time ago in the pre-digital times so my photos are quite bad. With pleasure I watch your picture here, although the weather was far from perfect but it seems you have turned it well to your advantage giving the scene a more dramatic touch.
Excellent work!

Hi Danos
I will never forget when Malgo visited here last year, she was so looking forward to it, but when she arrived the castle was covered in scaffolding as it was under renovation :(

beautiful views, love the clouds too.
the dim light is striking, wish I were here too.

Hello Danos
The fairytale castle which many say Disney Castle is modelled on...indeed the light situation looks challenging with cloudy sky, but you have done really well. Impressive edifice and fine work!

Hi Danos, What a view of this historic castle with the FG framed with the forest and the BG over look the sea and the city. Wonderful composition and taken with perfect exposure. Thank for sharing

Hello Danos

A well composed image of this very impressive castle. I like the sky too - clouds remind me of UK! Your note is interesting too - especially the fact that it was funded from his personal fortune - such a rare thing in castles in England.

Hello Danos,
this castle should be in one of the Disney cartoons - it is so picturesque and beautifully preserved! I almost expect some pretty princess still living there. The location adds to the whole charm and makes it even more magnificent. I like how you included some panorama below the castle as it makes the composition so much more complete. Nice colors and perfect sharpness.

Hi Danos dear
The beauty of this architectural shot. I love the architecture on top. Charming and lovely composition. Well performed. Thanks for sharing

Hello Danos,

Who could not be impressed by this castle and the photograph which captures it in such an imposing way! It absolutely dominates the f/g with its steep sides and watchful, turreted bastions. The dof is absolutely spot on!
Though some would love to see a bright blue sky, for me, the low grey clouds add to the mood that is created.

Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)
