I chose "Daily Life" as the category for this photo, and why not? In my mind it shows exactly what the day to day life looks like in downtown Old Havana.

You have the classic car puttering by, you have a few locals walking the tiny sidewalks, the crumbling architecture, and some laundry hanging out to dry on the upper balcony - this IS Havana :)

I wish I was better prepared for the photo, otherwise I would have bumped up the shutter speed to capture the car in total sharpness - but i remember this was a Grab photo, the car caught me off guard so i took the photo quickly.

Still, i hope you like it and that it displays alot of what Havana truly is.

Thanks for looking

Hello Craig,
What's not to like? Great street capture this. The emerald car looks superb against those crumbling façades. Superb rendering of the textural detail. Have a great day.

Hi Craig,

Despite your complaints, this looks pretty damn sharp to me - and it was taken at 1/320 second which should have been plenty sharp enough - unless that old car was doing 100 mph!

Whether this was a "grab" shot or not, it is superb. In my opinion, that old car is perfectly placed in the frame and its crazy pale green paintwork stands out superbly against the warm reddish tones of the background buildings and street - in fact, the car pretty much matches the colour of the door surround at far right which gives a fine balance to the colour composition too.

Another lovely shot of Havana with lots of interest - and with people too - perfectly exposed and with your usual exquisite attention to details and sharpness.

Brilliant!

Kind Regards,

John.

HI Craig,
This is a great shot with an interesting contrast between the coloured, well-cared car and the worn dilapidated building. The quality of your picture gives a lot of detail and the pastel colours of the faded buildings bring a nostalgic flavour to this composition. You really captured the feel of Cuba.
Kind regards,
Christian

Ciao Craig
una sintesi efficace della città cubana: una vecchia auto americana e l'architettura semifatiscente che ricorda antiche glorie coloniali in una completa anarchia di colori.
Una Cuba che, ripeto ancora una volta, hai colto con grande arguzia e molto calore.
Complimenti
Ciao e buona giornata
Romano

Hello Craig
Any slight lack of sharpness (that you mention) makes no difference to this photograph of great charm and spontaneity. The colours are superb with the classic automobile placed perfectly in the backdrop of the tall buildings. The surroundings remind me of certain localities of Calcutta :-).
Thanks for sharing this lovely street shot.
Have a nice evening.
Satya

Hi Craig,

I really don't want to make trouble. But this picture is something remarkable. I have to give a critique. Haha.

Cuba has been sleeping for over a half Century. The street scene on your picture clearly shows. As an antique car fan, this place gave you a pleasure for sure.

Have a nice day!

Ciao Craig
bellissima foto, le facciate sono uno splendido fondale per questa auto.
Un vero classico per questa città, la foto potrebbe essere stata scattata in qualsiasi anno, il risultato sarebbe sempre lo stesso.
Saluti
Carlo

Hello Craig,
What a lovely old car, like those we used to have here when I was a kid. And what a fine place to find it, with that pink corner and faded gren doorway behind it. The crumbled building makes me think of Calcutta or a lot of other Indian cities. Maybe I would like Havana if the food was better and I could speak English there.
All the best,
Gert

Hi Craig,
Definitely "daily life"! The car here looks very well kept, especially in comparison with the building behind. This must be a car from the late forties or very early fifties (I remember such models from my childhood...). A very fine capture!
Kind regards
Gunnar

Hi Craig
Un tout petit manque de netteté, si banal :-) par rapport a la composition, le top le look de cette voiture verte, une carrosserie nickel contre les hauts bâtiments typiques de la Havane, j'aime beaucoup
Belle soirée
cricri

Hello Craig - This must be the archetypal Havana shot and I love it. The car looks so funky in its green livery, I'd hate a car this colour but it looks perfect in this setting and stands out beautifully against the soft shabbiness of the buildings.

To my mind a top shot in every respect.

Warm regards

Rosemary

Hi Craig
pure Habana indeed
Could withstand some more color saturation IMHO
best regards, have a nice day
patrick

Hi Craig,

Very good composition with jade green car and ruins on the background.

Have a nice evening!

Bartek

Hello Craig,
This is how you told us before that Havana looks like: highly weathered buildings that barely withstood the test of time and fascinating old cars.
With that green colour the car is visible from far and wide. But it certainly has a lot of charm.
Wonderful street scene.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Craig,
Love it! The color of that car really jumps out at us. That car, together with the faded and crumbling facades, are definitely a perfect representation of Havana. My mom saw this photo, and it brought back memories of her Havana childhood. :-)

Hello dear Craig,
Nice capture from Havana, the heaven of "oldies" !
The green cab adds a unique taste to your compo.
TFS and best regards

Hello Craig,
it`s easy to see why you were so keen to capture this fine shot, there is so much to view and enjoy, from the immaculate classic car to the tatty buildings it`s a cracking shot that epitomises Havana perfectly.
Never mind the softness enjoy the content,it`s a lovely shot.
All the best,
Les.

Hi Craig,

Hmmm, let's see...what can I say about this shot. Oh yeah, I love it!! :) The car steals the immediate attention of course, but it's the background elements that are the key here. The daily life aspect, the items you mentioned in the notes, are phenomenal...subtle, but sublimely entrenched in the fabric of this imagery.

This capture once again places us right in the moment, real and raw. You shouldn't be so harsh on yourself, the passing car looks fine, a high enough shutter speed to stop the motion...unless this was some Fast and Furious action I'm unaware of!?? :)

Super rustic colors and those oh-so-lovely textures I can never get enough of...and of course, a few locals mixed in for good measure. Thanks for bringing us this side of Havana. Have a good one. Take it easy.

Cheers from the desert,

Jason

Hi Craig
Seeing this photo is like traveling through time. I usually see cars like this one in movies in b&w from the 1940s or 1950s. Good capture.

Craig
Une scène de vie typique de La Havane que tu as remarquablement mise en image dans cette excellente composition dont la voiture verte est incontestablement la vedette.

Hi Craig,
The authenticity of this image doesn't cares for a small detail of technical use of the camera. Lovey shot, very natural.
Enjoy a fine weekend.

Daniel

Good morning Craig,
A very rutine sight throughout this town, I had learn already, an old car passing along the streets.
The stunning green car is merely "glowing" against the peeled-plaster walls mostly in brown and grey - what a contrast.
It doe's show however, this was once a beautifully architected / designed neighbourhood. Time taken a great toll upon.
A fine shot, you were at the right moment to collect this.
Have a nice Friday,
Ike

To Cubans driving this old classic is daily life event for them, but for car collectors it's a trip down memory lane. Nice capture of this well maintain (because they have to) car although the paint job needs to be better. Good lighting and nice details. Well done, tfs.

Hi Craig
this is just magic! It looks like a film set and you have captured the very essence of the place in this superb image. Everything is here and I just wish I had taken it and could claim it in my gallery. Stunning! - one of your best - (and that is saying something considering how many greats you have in your gallery old chap).

Have a good weekend - B.

Hi Craig,
I love the combination of the textures of the walls against the smooth finish of the car, they combine so perfectly well. A beautiful car too, it looks to my eyes almost like a cartoon! I have honestly never seen a car like that before. The cars would surely be one of the things that would draw me to this cool place. Very nicely done, especially so for a grab shot!
Cheers
Noel

P.S. Sorry about my delay replying, work has me very busy. Re Charleville castle, you can get tours some days inside, but it seems to depend on the mood of the person that is there. Ive never been able to get inside, but if I do and I can take some snaps, its straight to the dungeon I go :) Have a great weekend

Hello Craig,

Now, I would love a car that colour, though I don't think my husband would be quite as enthusiastic.
This is a fine shot, detailing the characteristics of Havana, with its dilapidated buildings and old, characterful cars.
You have composed the shot well, fixing the corner on the thirds line so that we have two lines of attack but, with one taking precedence.

Have a great w/e,
Bev :-)

Haha Craig, You couldn't missed this green car for sure. I imagine that Havana looks like this - once wonderful architecture now dilapidated but still full of charm, old cars, and interesting street life. Superb composition.

WArm, regrads MAlgo

Hi Craig,
What comes to classic cars and worn out background, I think this goes one step beyond. That car has certain cartoon style and walls are like a set from a film noir movie. Amazing!
This gave me inspiration for a gloomy WS, just for fun.
Kari

Hi Craig!
Back to decrepit downtown Old Havana!
Most of all, I love that car style! I'd love to see this scene in a whole different way, with colorful buildings in the back and that car as a brand new model! It'd be nice too!
Great picture!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, chosen pov and composition truly pleased me!
TFS - congrats,
Enjoy your Saturday,
Neyvan

Hi Craig,
The shabby exteriors of the houses make a lovely BG for the bright green car. This is very 'Cuban' and I love it. Could be in the 1950s!
Best wishes, Ann

Hi Craig

I know this is HDR, but as you say, it brings out the colours and textures not just of the cars but also the characteristic old architecture. You chose a superb angle at which to take this shot, getting the best of the perspective from both the classic old car and the corner of the building. The inclusion of the brightly dressed people, aswell as the colourful laundry add to the sense of this being a very vibrant, lived-in city, if you know what I mean. Top job and I'm glad to read that Brenda's mum got a kick out of seeing the photo.

Cheers
Lisa

Hi Craig
Great shot and I like the olde worlde rustic atmosphere rendered, and one thing comes to mind looking at this: stinging me blind! You are lucky Craig to have spotted this. It's a clever way to drag viewers into this beautiful capture, it's another typical view from Cuba and its trademarks. Impressive full of live capture Congrats.
Best regards

Hello Craig,

Spectacular shot from the street of Havana. The city does have a resemblance with North Calcutta as pointed out by Gert.Lovely colors and excellent sharpness.Very well done.TFS.

Cheers
Farhat

Hi Craig,
really love this one. Amazing capture in all respects...the shabby but stylish colorful facade in the background, its wonderful geometry and of course this bright green marvel. I'd call it "Grasshopper".
Cool shot.
Cheers

Hello Craig,

sharp or not sharp, this is really an amazing daily life picture showing Havanna and its famous old american cars in a very fine manner.Very good contribution to TE.Very well done.TFS.

With regards from Luxembourg

JC

Hi Craig,
A scene well captured with the passage of the green car at the corner of this typical street of Havana. I like it!
Best regards.
Gigi

Hi Craig

I agree, with this shot you have really captured the essence of Havana and Cuba in one shot. This seems almost unreal, like a scene from a movie. The old green classic car really stands out among the derelit buildings. Thanks for sharing this wonderful scene:)

Enjoy your Sunday.

Greetings, Erling

Hi Craig,
Well taken, typically La Habana with these old houses and this old american car, well composed, tfs.

Hi, Craig,
This luxury green car here is just original advertising idea, expressive contrast with so ugly houses on the background. Few days ago I have seen a lot of old timers in the Riverside Airshow too.
I can say more, tomorrow I am going to San Francisco.;)
It is a small compensation, you come to Europa, and we want to see the New World ;))

Best wishes from Eagle Rock!
