I’ve spoken many times about the rainy season in Namibia. Everybody waits with hopeful expectation for the sporadic rains which fall between November and March. This shot was taken in a particularly good season and where the desert is usually quite dry here it was covered in seasonal grass and the road was a puddled thoroughfare.

Hello Rosemary,
Fantastic colours and light. I love the black clouds hanging low over the sunny ground. The green desert looks amazing, especially from the contrast with the light red road. Absolutely amazing and very well compsed with the side of the road connecting with the lower left corner.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Rosemary,

A delightful view taken during the rainy season in which we see not only the big puddle straddling the dirt roadway but also signs of life in what is probably considered in these parts very lush vegetation either side of the roadway. And all brought about by rain falling from that dark and thretening (though no doubt most welcome) sky.

The simplicity of composition is not only striking but also very pleasing as also is the simple colour palette, the deep blue of the sky contrasting well with the yellows of the grassland and the reddish brown of the road. And, of course, I love those dappled shadows cast by the clouds upon the land too!

Glorious light and colours, perfect exposure, excellent processing and exquisite detail and sharpness throughout.

Beautiful!

Kind Regards,

John.

Beautiful landscape, beautiful colors, well framed and rendered, image well done.!
regards
Adrian

Hello Rosemary,
now that sort of sky seems familiar, the difference being that you look forward to such a scene whilst we`ve probably had enough of them for the time being.
I do like the puddle of water, evidence of a recent downpour which is nicely placed in a clever composition and the use of the curve in the road from a vertical corner.
Kind regards Les.

Hello Rosemary,

Dramatic contrast you have presented between the lush greenery, ominous steely-blue clouds, & iron oxide laden road that disappears most compellingly into the horizon and behind the beyond.

Impressive sharpness throughout, exceptional color saturation and a perfect pov for this flat landscape composition. Congrats on a very well executed image.

Regards,

Derek

Hi Rosemary
had a sky like this over us today, just as I was returning home. Needless to say I got wet!! It looks so much better in this shot than over the South Downs. A fascinating road leading us into the threatening sky, and I can hear The Doors singing "Riders On The Storm" and also Jackson Browne's immortal line "When we come to the place where the road and the sky collide" Magical music to accompany a magical shot!

B - singing now! :-)

Hi Rosemary, lovely view of the desert covered with green boils nice contrast and interesting road gray sky, very well composed and captured in this beautiful picture. An interesting image of a beautiful place, with good sharpness, depth and quality. Nice good job perfectly done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this interesting work.

Good night and happy week.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.
Angel.

Ciao Rosemary
Complimenti
Ciao e buona serata
Romano

Hello Rosemary,
The sky........ WHAOU !
You made a perfect shot there. It is very well composed and équilibréde more colors are natural.
The rating is interesting.

Hello Rosemary,

Oh, what an atmospheric shot!
The clouds are hanging low in the sky and, in the background, resemble the start of a tornado. There is a real battle for attention between the sky and the land! I love how the pathway collects viewers and channels them to a strong vanishing point.
Great composition, great colours and quite an eye-opening shot for someone who has never been to Africa!

My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Rosemary,
This is very beautiful scene full of great contrasts, intensive tones and special lights. You selected a fantastic moment for taking the image of that unique view. Like it a lot! Very well executed one.

Best wishes,
Gosia

Hi Rosemary,
What amazing light. It is so hard to capture a rain storm from the side and be able to work out its exact shape, but this is a perfect example of the art. To have that dark yet beautiful sky. And in the foreground the bright golden light is just superb. The road with its puddles leading off into the distance puts an incredible sense of depth to the view. A really amazing sight. Thanks as always for sharing.
All the best
Noel

P.s. i am not on holidays at the moment but my new job has me travelling a little, do while I am on the other side of the country, I try to take an hour here and there to indulge my hobby :) I must admit though, it's not as easy tramping around fields in a suit and tie.

Hi Rosemary,

Your photo and note remind me of my childhood in Rhodesia, and when it poured down with heavy rain we would strip off and jump around and wallow in it as though we had never seen rain before.

Fantastic photo of this sparse landscape and the distance storms, great to see the green grass.

Love the name Puddled Road.

Great Pov, super colours, Tfs,

Cheers, Iain.

Hello Rosemary,
simple but very eye catching view. The path with its contrasting colors has become very central part of the composition and divides the picture into two well proportioned sections. The sky with all its drama adds very much to the beauty of this landscape.
Great colors and light!
All the best!
Kamila

Hi Rosemary - I love the wide open feel of flat areas like this one, the sense of space... we never really get that in New England. You've got so much great balancer in this shot - the road curving from the bottom left up to the horizon (and a 'flipped' composition in a way as well, with the road running along the right edge), and the puddle and rain cloud balancing each other as well. The bright sunlight in FG makes the landscape pop beautifully. You've shown us so many wonderful sides to Namibia... maybe someday I'll be able to see for myself!

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Rosemary,

Ooh, there's a storm a brewin'! That looks rather ominous, but I'm sure most welcomed at the same time. This shot has a strong, and forgive the pun, atmosphere. The contrast is superb, and the long road to the horizon converges for a lovely perspective. We haven't had rain in Arizona for months, and the entire Southwest is under drought conditions, so I can certainly appreciate what's being expressed here.

The natural earthy orange of the road, the green brush landscape, and the blue tones of the heavy sky make for a wonderful trio of color. Stunning result from nature. Here's to much needed rain! Have a great day ahead. All the best.

Friendly wishes,

Jason

Hello Rosemary!

Hi Rosemary
I love to shoot storm rain clouds and a huge fan of clouds, in fact I have few more shots like this yet to up load. I share your experience in extreme weather condition like this taken from out of your comfort zone being a storm-chaser of the day! Great dramatic sky indeed giving us an idea of what the weather was like and wherever one looks there's the potential of a great atmospheric shot and a real beauty. This is magnificent, love the dark colour with hint of movements and some bright colour and lovely shadows on land to boost the overall visual effect lending the extra punchy contrast. You did your very best here, indeed a great effort timely clicked, My Congrats.
Best regards

Rosemary
Très belle photo de paysage avec une sublime lumière d'après pluie (si j'en crois la flaque d'eau!).

Hi Rosemary
Oh i think this will be another popular photo here :)
and it will be well deserved too.

you took this photo 3 years ago, what took you so long to post it?!

its so cool to see the rain coming down far off into the distance to the left, and the natural greens and browns always go so well...like peanut butter and jam!

wonderful atmospheric photo, its a visual delight.

So when is the best time of year to visit Namibia - since we want to visit in 2015 :)
we can plan ahead.
what do you suggest?

cheers
craig

Hello Rosemary,
A splendid image this. Ideally composed with the dirt road placed off to the right. I like the play of light across the landscape, which is beautifully set off by that storm laden sky. Superb saturated colours and clarity to match. Landscape photography of the first order.

Nica Rosemary, as usual.

Hello Rosemary,
this is a magnificent scene, captured with great skill. We get a marvelous description of the scenery and the special aspect given to it by the play (or battle) of light and clouds. The depth is amazing and, although the landscape is flat and simple, it is very attractive and gives me the urge to proceed forward and explore it. Textures and colours are wonderful and looking at this I feel awe and joy. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,
Ourania

namaste,
a beautiful landscape here with the path in foreground and with a dramatic sky at top. Interesting POV chosen to show this nice view. I like the use of light and the tonal quality of it. A very good composition. Tfs.

Hello Rosemary,
What a fantastic view of nature. I love the simplicity of this composition to create this jaw-dropping photo. excellent photo with good observation and timing because I know that this strong light despite the angry black skies will not stay for long. Wonderful contrasting colours and light. Excellent clarity as well. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Rosemary,
une superbe composition, le chemin ocre trace une belle perspective à travers ce paysage.
Ciel impressionnant.
Bonne soirée
Roland

Hola Rosemary
I like that kind of menacing sky that here, in Argentina comes with lot of electrical effects, provided I am in a safe place
Here the composition works well because the great color contrast and the orange road going away till the back with the gray puddled as focal interest
Like also the rays of some here and there

Well done
Maria
Always forgot,to thanks you for adding me at the Rosemary watching group

Howdy Rosemary,

Simple yet attractive Namibia scene with the red dirt road descending into the horizon, next to lush green vegetation, then the ominous dark storm clouds above.

Nicely created and composed,
Cheers,
Ray

Hello Rosemary,
What a beautiful time in the desert! The contrast between the earth and sky is remarkable. The earth is fill of vivid colors, the sky is ominously grey. I love those cloud formations and the spectacular precipitation in the distance. The dirt road provides a pleasant perspective into the third dimension.
Regards,
MT

Hello Rosemary!
Cool the gray sky! I really like the three colors of the landscape! Namibia fantastic!!
Regards, Nino.

Fantastique le contraste des couleurs, le chemin qui part a l'infini, et puis ce ciel dramatique qui s'ajoute a la beauté du paysage
Belle soirée

Hi Rosemary

Excellent shot this. I like the simplicity of the scene. You have composed perfectly with the endeless road as a lead into the landscape. The lighting and the contrasting light is amazing and has a great impact on this beautiful landscape shot. The colour contrast between the green field and the reddish road is another great feature. Excellent work:)

Greetings, Erling

Hi Rosemary!
The rain season is really magical in Africa. This is a fantastic landscape with a wonderful sky and all the endless carpet of grass and the road leading to the unknown. The sun light passing through the clouds gave you a perfect light also. Really good shot!

Hello Rosemary,
This picture looks completely different from my memories about Namibia. When I had traveled there I never saw green fields. They look beautiful and people are happy.
Nice simple composition with road going straight to horizon with green fields on both side. The black clouds indicate that more rain on the road.
Good quality picture.
Kind regards,
Zbigniew

Bonjour Rosemary
