The Rocher des Vierges, Saint-Saturnin-de-Lucian

One view.
Other view.

2 km from Saint-Saturnin-de-Lucian, the Saint-Fulcran chapel the 12th century, on the "Rocher des Vierges" or "Roc des Deux Vierges", the two virgins rock, built on the foundations of the Sainte-Marie chapel mentioned in 1160. On this site with long prehistoric past, we see the ruins of a medieval fortress of the 10th century, built between 930 and 1004. A pilgrimage takes place every year on the fifth Sunday after Easter. The site has been listed since 1957.

At 536 meters, it is an exceptional panorama. We discovered the CAUSSE DU LARZAC, the HÉRAULT valley, the LERGUE valley, the ALLUVIAL PLAIN OF THE HÉRAULT AND WINEYARDS, the spectacular RUFFES of Saint-Saturnin-de-Lucian, Saint-Guiraud and Saint-Jean-de-la-Blaquiere, as the LIAUSSON mountain and the VISSOU peak, near the SALAGOU lake, and then the SAINT-BAUDILLE mount, which rises to 848 m.

_ The RUFFES, called pélites by the geologists are very crisp sedimentary rocks, reddened by the iron oxide, the origin of which goes to the end of the primary era 280 to 225 million years. 1,9 million years ago, hanging 500 000 years the effusions of lava invaded valleys, on ruffes. The erosion dug the not covered ruffes, leaving in height the castings of basalt on the protected ruffes. Creating an inversion of the relief.

SAINT-SATURNIN-DE-LUCIAN is a french municipality, located in the department of the Herault of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated with 307 inhabitants in 2009, distributed on 9.8 km², that is to say 31.3 hab./km².

Hello Joël,
The threatening sky contributes much to the atmosphere of the shot. The image is well composed and has very good colours and sharpness. I like very much the patterns and textures to be observed in the architecture and foreground rocks.

Hello Joel,

This is a lovely shot.
The textural details, beginning with the f/g rocks and finishing with the old barn, are so sharply captured that one feels able to touch them!
The dark, foreboding sky adds a special touch to the whole shot.

My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Sylvain

Hi
Beautiful view of the old place,
cloudy sky background, light management, good resolution,
with respect

Bonsoir Joel,
I love the textures and colours of these stones, they are extremely strong and fascinating and have seen so many thousands of years go by. The antique chapel is marvellously integrated in this place and in your composition. The perspectives work subtly but effectively, depth and clarity are excellent. The lighting variations bestow the picture with an interesting colour palette and a dramatic atmosphere. I particularly like the first of the workshop pictures for the vivid and inviting impression it offers. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Ourania

Hello Joel,
splendid subject with a perfect POV from above, magnificent atmosphere with the cloudy sky and superb composition of the scene!!!
Well done, best regards!
Giorgio

Hello Joel,
wonderful composition and its an execution. I love the point of view with texture of those walls, colors, sharpness, clarity and perspective. Magnificent work. Love it.
All the best,
Barbara

Pierre

Hello Joel,
the architecture and the rocks might make quite heavy impression but you very nicely counterbalanced them with some greenery on the left side. Well done for choosing POV and managing the light. Nice colors too.
Thanks for sharing
Kamila

Bonsoir Joel

Belle reussite

Congrats et bravo
Maria

Hello Joël,

This picture shows that how importent timing is.
Without the clouds(only a blue, or grey sky) the
picture wouldn't be that exciting. Very nice in
the picture is the contast between shadow and
light and I like the point of view and composition,
that makes also the picture exciting...Good work.

Friendly regards,
Robert

Hi Joël,
The grey rocks continue straight into the grey building, a natural combination of materials. The small red parts, the roof and the flowers provide a fine balance and the clouds are excellently captured. Also a well composed picture and the usual very interesting note.
Kind regards
Gunnar

Bonjour Joel,

Bien vu

Bonjour Joel,
it is not only this fascinating light that makes this impression of the tiny chapel very attractive, it is also the perspective. Very beautiful colors, the sky is wonderful! My compliments also for the notes!

Ciao Joel,

A really fine composition where you make excellent use of the lighting conditions and the various elements. The house is really in focus here not only because it is sunlit but also because of your inclusion of the rock in the foreground and the wall to the right. The dark sky is a great backdrop. TFS and have nice day!

Kind regards,

Ulf
