[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I enjoyed a visit to Sydney's old Quarantine Station recently with a group from our local camera club. The quarantine station operated at North Head near Manly for about 150 years until it closed in 1984.
If there was anyone on an arriving ship with a contagious disease everybody on board was detained at the station for at least 40 days. Many of the sick died in the station's hospital.
A lot of the old features and most of the buildings remain. My little Fuji X10, that I use for a lot of indoor photos, was working flat out. This photo shows the control wheel on the door of massive chambers for fumigating all baggage on each ship. When the wheel was turned each of those radiating spokes locked into place at the edges of the door for a secure seal.

Hi Ian,

I can imagine how excited were all these members of camera club, seeing this eye catching detail. Superb view, perfect composition and colours.

Hi Ian,

I imagine you all had a great time on the excursion & by the looks of this image you took some really terrific shots - the clarity & colours are brilliant.
Love the bright fire engine red against the soft sage green.
Hope you are well?

Kindest regards,

Hi Ian !!
nice..... very nice
Good contrasting colours and very sharp details.
A graphic image with a punch..........
see you tomorrow

Hi Ian.
Bit of a change for you? It's a quite spectacular close-up, with superb sharpness of detail and just the right exposure and saturation, which others might have been tempted to overdo. I like the square proportions for this exercise in symmetry, and the little glinting highlights on the red paint. A very pleasing and elegant design for a humble fumigation room control wheel! I remember visiting the quarantine station some years ago, and found it really interesting. Great work with your little Fuji.

Great graphic. Love the exposure, colours and perspective. Well done. Keep on clicking.

I like that you chose to select just a particular detail of the door for this shot. The bright red wheel really catches the eye against the grey of the spokes. A striking graphical image.

great simple shot contrasting the vibrant wheel with the steel behind. the radiating lines of the door really contrast well with the circle as well.
