The winter sun, Sorbs

One view.
Another view.

In the Sorbs municipality, on the limestone plateau LARZAC, The winter sun on the castle of Sorbs.

The castle of Sorbs of 14th 16th 17th centuries on the "CAUSSE du LARZAC". The castle appears as a quadrangle with four towers of angle. Classified as "Historic Monument". Private property.

_ The CAUSSE of LARZAC is vastest and southernmost of "GRANDS CAUSSES", large causses. Its 1000 km ² of plateau rise from 600 to 900 meters. It is limited to the North-East by Dourbie river which separates it from "Causse Noir", in the North-West the Tarn river separates it from the plateau of Lévézou, in the west it stops with the depression of Roquefort. Its surface is strewn with famous sites with the military orders, Knights of the Order of the Temple and Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem.

_ The GRANDS CAUSSES, in the south of the Massif Central, are delimited in north by the plateau of "Aubrac", in the east by the Cévennes, the south by the plain of the "lodévois", in the west by the plateau of "Lévézou". These are plateaus limestones whose altitude varies from 700 to 1250 meters of altitude, and of surface going up to 1000 km². The "Grands Causses" are formed by important "Causses of Larzac" (1000 km²), of "Sauveterre" (550 km²), "Méjean" (330 km²), and "Noir" (200 km²), but also of the causses "Comtal", "Rouge" and of "Sévérac", and many small peripheral causses like causses of "Mende", "Blandas", "Changefèges", "Bégon", etc… No waterway circulates on the surface of the plates, because the rainwater infiltrates in the karstic, generating networks of many swallow-holes and caves, to re-appear in the valleys. Geology of causses and the cévennes.

SORBS is a French commune, located in the department of Hérault of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 36 Sorbois in 2009, distributed on 20.2 km², is 1.8 hab./km².

The municipality of Sorbs consists of four hamlets.

Situated on the Causse du Larzac, the municipality of Sorbs is close to the Parc naturel régional des Grands Causses.

A really nice photo. The photo is really well-composed with the castle very well positioned and I like your inclusion of the tree in its entirety. Perhaps winter sun in southern France, but to me it looks more like spring. TFS and have a nice evening!

Kind regards,

Hello dear Joel,
Another nice wintery capture.
The warm winter sunlight makes the scenery and your capture perfect.
TFS and best regards

Salut Joel.

Amicalement,

Hi Joel,
Nice colourful winter view in a sunny day, beautiful blue sky, yellowish buildings and whitish snow, good pov and good frame to show it all, nice WS photos too, distinct photo, well done.

Bonjour mon ami Joël,

This morning in Virginia and Washington, DC we are blanketed by snow, but much deeper than this dusting in Sorbs. It seems entirely reasonable to comment on this shot to start with. The remarkable history of the centuries old site is always a lesson to us on this side of the ocean. The masonry building are so well preserved, suggesting they were just built, and their medieval inhabitants saw the same scene. Against the blue sky, the massive tree is especially attractive with its lacework of bare branches.

Warm regards,

Hello Joël,

I looked to your two extra pictures, also these are pleasant for look at.
In Belgium is the winter almost over, I am very happy
A nice castle image, with excellent depth and perspective.
Excellent captured, lovely panoramic composed.
Very well done, TFS.

Best regards,

Bonjour Joel,

The ancient building is treat for the eyes and it is unusual to see castles with a dusting of snow, more commonly they are photographed in summer sunshine.
The inclusion of the f/g wall was useful as it gives a much better sense of depth.
You have used a good dof.
Despite the snow and the time of year, the light is really good for photography.

Have a lovely Sunday,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Joel,

what a charming photo with amazing light management. The sun creates so much life in here and makes the whole picture even more attractive. Very nice composition and well chosen POV.
Lovely colors and sharpness.
Well done
