John's Flemish Gallery

This picture has been taken during a visit to Ghent, three weeks ago.
No sun, heavy cloudy, I tried to make a picture from an angle that almost nobody tries.
You can see the handrail of the "Sint Michiels brug in Dutch" in background if panorama view you can see twenty towers, great and small together.
The area called the towers is the historical heart of Ghent. Ghent has a long and rich history that is still in many places in the city has been preserved. Outside the historic center are fun things to do or see. Gent discover not in an afternoon or evening.
Here is where it all began. Wherever you look, you see important and impressive buildings and monuments. The many attractions such as the Belfry, Saint Bavo Cathedral, St. Nicholas Church, Town Hall and Gerard the Devil can all be found around the St. Bavo's Square

I hope you like it.

Hi John,

This is a souvenir for me, Iwas there on April 28, 2011. You took the photo on the opposite side of the bridge looking toward the church. The point of view is showing with precision the details and colors of the architecture of the buildings and church. The cloudy sky is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Dag John,

Heel mooi gedaan, John.
Groetjes,
Christian

Salut mon cher ami John,
ce qui fait la qualité de cette photo avant tout, c'est le choix de l'angle de prise de vue. Un endroit bien choisi, en embuscade.
Une multitude de clochers partent à l'assaut d'un ciel gris finement capturé.
All my best regards.
Daniel.

Really a photo full of towers!
This architecture is so fine and characteristic that it makes a good and interesting photo even with the cloudy sky. Somehow its austere look is enhanced by the dramatic sky. Here again you managed to create a fine perspective with the rail of this bridge and the composition is very harmonious. A good example of how one can take fine photos even with bad weather.

Compliments,
Donato

Hello John, the typical cloudy weather of Belgium works very nice in this composition. The structures dates back to medieval times seem more impressive against those heavy clouds. The use of light is perfect as usual. Congratulations and best regards, Tolga

Hello John!
I was in Belgium near Brussels. As I look at your picture, can not remain in Ghent. This image is a miracle. I really like the medieval buildings, and here is a lot of places. Nagyoj good selection of points of view, I think, from several buildings in the city at once, can not be presented. Technically, of course, the execution is excellent.
Have a nice day.
Csaba

Hi John,
It is a good POV, with which you have given a great depth to the image by means of the dynamic perspective of the railing of the bridge, which leads our eyes to the magnificent architecture of the buildings and the towers in background.
The heavy cloudy sky adds a great esthetical character to this composition.
A wonderful work.
Best regards.

Hello John,

A great view dominates the photo. I love all the towers in different styles. And the bridge, which dynamically comes foreword towards us is creating a stunning depth in your photo. Even the clouds formation in the sky is on your side in creating a little mysterious atmosphere, which in my humble opinion go very well with the presence and the styles of the all the towers. There is so much covered in your photo. But the photo holds very well together without giving us any feeling of overcrowded image. I love the view I love the composition.

With my very best regards,
Have very pleasant weekend, John

Hallo John,

Hallo John!
I'm back from hospital - all went well - and now I can rejoice in this wonderful photo. You couldn't choose a better point of view in order to show us all this architectural splendour. It's another proof that bright sunshine isn't always necessary for an excellent picture. I like this one very much!
Have a nice weekend! We have had the first hoarfrost this morning at -2°C!
Frank

Hello John,
This is a great shot using the bridge to create a diagonal lead in. The panoramic view allows us to see many of the city's towers and fine architecture. The muted lighting adds to the old word feel of the shot.

Asa

Hi John,
I have seen many pictures from this lovely town ad yet this view surprised me completely. The composition is excellent -so busy so full of amazing architecture. The variety of structures is incredible! I like the bridge in the foreground. In spite of having pretty bad weather you did a fantastic job. It really encourages me to use my camera also at the bad weather, which in Dublin is almost every day :(
Beautiful town, wonderful postcard, truly pleasure to look at,
Have a great Sunday,
M

Hello John, The clarity & contrast in tones is very impressive in this beautiful & interesting image. The grey sky creates the the calm confortable mood. I think it is always good to try a different POV, sometimes it works, others not, here works well.

Hi John!
It's really good! - the pov, sharpness and even the cloudy sky that gave it a very special atmosphere. You captured a good set of buildings, with really interesting architecture!

Hello John,

welll thought composition with the way on the right leading the eye directly to the big towers and buidlings. Good management of light with the not so good light conditions. Although the sky is dark, the image still looks warm and pleasing. Well done my friend, take care and best regards, F.

Hola John,
Very interesting note for an interesting building, quite impressive as you said
Like the clouds, they add more character at the capture
And the perspective is so good, that it deserves the ( till now) 208 points
Greetings and TFS

There are cetainly many towers my friend. You've chosen an unusual angle to take your shot, perhaps too low as it blocks out the lower half of the people on the bridge, but the towers are impressive and I like the sky, a good sky for a B&W shot?

Hello John,

amazing picture from Gent with a perfect composition and excellent colors.I like Gent very much and I was there a few weeks ago for my job and I had no time to shot pictures. But I will come back soon ...Very well done.TFS.

Hello John, seeing some your pictures, I am impressed by this image of Ghent.
I really like it, I think that the cloudy weather has given a most beautiful and evocative atmosphere to the scene. These historic buildings and their architecture are spectacular.
The POV is fantastic, even if nobody uses it!
Finally, as always, exposure, sharpness and colors are excellent.

Best regards

Corrado

... met een mooi gevulde voorgrond.
Zeer mooie foto van een zeer mooie stad, John !

Hello John,
an excellently planned and realized composition that makes great use of levels, perspectives and the architectural details that characterize this fascinating panorama. From your superb point of view we can see enough to appreciate each of the antique buildings and the intriguing combination they make. Sharpness is marvellous and you've made the most of the moody light and atmosphere enhancing the appeal of the antique colours and adding a dramatic touch to the scenery. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great month,
Ourania

Bonjour Jean,

I would certainly say that your attempt at creating a different point of view than most has definitely paid off, this is a very well composed image! It's always refreshing to see a different perspective on things and it goes to show how photography can be so subjective. All of the spires are visually appealing and the dark sky actually creates good contrast to the scene. Very impressive!

Best Regards,

Jason

Hi John !!
This is a magnificent photo from a particularly good POV as I get to see the cobblestone lane going under the overhead bridge.
Colours and sharpness are stupendous.
Very good work and lucky me that found it.
Have a nice week end

Hi John,

I'm always amazed at what a good photographer can do with the right equipment. Despite the poor weather you've done here again a beautiful picture!

What relates to the image construction: Perfect where you placed the red rectangle (do not know what that is). Very well done!

All the best

Peter

Hello John,
Beautiful architecture everywhere! I like the sense of depth the wall provides from your POV.
