A second picture taken inside Casa Batllo in Barcelona (my previous one was a staircase). This fabulous house was designed by Antoni Gaudi who paid a lot of attention to capturing natural light. An example of how he captured that light is shown here. The windows are in the ceiling.
Barcelona was a centre of a cultural movement called Modernisme (Catalan Modernism) led by a group of intellectuals who were anti-traditionalists. This style of Art Noveau started in about 1888. Although Casa Batllo was built in 1877 it was remodelled early in the next century. Locally this house is called 'Casa dels ossos' (House of Bones) because of the skeletal-like architecture with exterior balconies like skulls and pillars like bones. The house was designed for Josep Batllo, a wealthy aristocrat who lived with his family on the lower two floors while the upper floors were rented as apartments. Gaudi found inspiration for his work from marine life. Nothing appears to have straight lines.

Hello Ann,

This is a very nice picture, very strange, but beautiful.
Your composition is great and the B&W treatment excellent.

Hi Ann,
I was fascinated by the interior of casa Batlló too. You captured perfectly this unique atmosphere that the genius created in every design. The shapes and the colors are amazing, here it seems you decided to upload the picture in B&W, isn't it?

Best regards,

Hello Ann,

Not only these windows are nice and unique, they are also very well photographed in terms of composition and light management.

The diagonal alignment you've created through your perspective brings dynamism and fill the frame efficiently. Despite the extreme light and shadow situation, all the details and textures in the glass come out, while the darker zones show their volume and smooth contours.

Gaudi would be happy with the result.. :-p)

Work of precision and elegance, Ann.
Its the keen observation, which uplifts a simple looking thing to a unique identity. Looks more like a giant spectacle. Well exposed and a beautiful choice of frame.

Creativity has no limits.

Hello Ann

Wonderful use of light to create this excellent composition out of the patterns and shapes of Gaudi's brilliant architecture.

best wishes

Hello Ann,

Gaudeamus! Ecce Gaudi!

I really must have a trip to Barcelona to see some of Gaudi's works. I remember your staircase photograph from this same house and very impressive it was too. Though perhaps not quite as impressive, yet this is a very fine picture of these interesting roof windows - and certainly not an easy subject to photograph either. Despite this, you have composed the picture wonderfully.

Although this is clearly a colour photograph, it is almost monochrome with just the faintest shades of yellow and blue in the glass panes. Very subtly done. Spot-on exposure, good contrasts and excellent sharpness.

Kind Regards,

Hello Ann,
I like your presentation of these unusual windows. The first thing that came to mind was the similarity to a pair of giant fly eyes! The subtle lighting and designs are beautiful.

Hi Ann. Windows. Photography is also experiment. Light, shadows, textures, lines, shapes. Your photo is a good example. Good balance between light and shadow. Very nice. Rgds, Wolfgang.

Muy interesante imagen de esas cristaleras tan famosas!!! Saludos

Hello Ann - This is a very successful shot; the well managed light with good tonal graduation reveals the contours and curves of the wall really well. Detail in the glass is fine with the subtle patterns nicely captured but what I like best is the composition, it is graphic and determined. I can see you really considered the placement of the windows within the frame and not only have you captured the uniqueness of the design, you have created a photographic art-work. Super and nice to see you back. Rosemary

Hi Ann,

I love gaudi's masterpieces. In Barcelona, i had no opportunity to go anywhere inside. creative view of these unusual windows. There are two straight lines here :). Not much colours here, so characteristic for Gaudi.

WArm regards

Hi Ann
you know what is actually my favorite part of this photo? the dimmed light around the edges of the windows. the entire view has somewhat of a futuristic appeal. its as if we're looking inside the mother ship. really cool subject, well executed shot.

Hello Ann
The first glance at your picture gave me the impression to look at some kind of floating objects. Those windows look beautiful and I appreciate how you've handled the light condition.

Hi Ann,
Lovely presentation of Gaudi's work. Mysterious and beautiful. It looks like the eyes of an alien:P

Hello Ann!
Artistic representations of works of art is what makes for a good 'photograph'. It does not remain as a snapshot & elevates itself as an artform. Your composition in that slight tilt, in duotones does just that! Fine work!
Best Regards

Bonjour Ann
A very elegant design that you have perfectly framed, light and exposure are very well managed, lovely tones, excellent sharpness and love the subjet.
Splendid photographic work Ann!
Have a nice day

Bonsoir Ann,
Quel endroit fantastique! La lumière est très bien maitrisée dans cette composition et nous permet d'admirer les courbes et le motif des murs et plafond.
Excellent travail.

Hi Ann

My favourite place in my favourite city!

I really like the way you played with light ... very elegant!

The dim light around the edges of the windows reveals beautifully the wall details.

Very well done!

Dear Ann,

A very interesting shot; in particular, I admire the details that are captured here - the subtle colour tones and the different textures of the glass. Splendid !!

Nice POV, beautiful light..

hi Ann,
You have done an amazing job of presenting this wonderful architecture here, the angle and point of view is perfect. I am not sure if this is black and whote, as there seems to be some element of blue in the light, but whatever way it has been processed, it works wonderfully well.
Best wishes

Bardzo fajna kompozycja.

Hello Ann
Gaudi was certainly an eccentric character that has left many of his works to be admired. I visited Barcelona many times for work and I have never had the 'opportunity to be able to photograph. I really like this your picture that although very simple, draws' attention to the beautiful forms of the details. The POV is great as well as the 'quality of' image. Thanks for the good work and sharing.
The best greetings, have a nice evening ... Marino

Hi Ann
That's great. A building like that is a gift for photographers. I see you call it a color photo, so I imagine this was also what the eyes saw.I just said to a person in Italy that living in Denmark was living in a B/W movie. Same applies certain locations in Barcelona, too. Good crop, Ann. The exposure is ideal.
Cheers Frank
