The Tour de l'Horloge, Chinon

The castle.
The tower.

The "Tour de l'Horloge", tower clock, of the 14th century is the entry of the Chinon castle. It reaches 35 meters height, its great width hiding a depth of only 5 meters.

The Chinon castle overlooks the Vienne river. Placed over a Gallo-Roman castrum of the 5th century, its construction was done from 10th century to 15th century. Successive restorations were carried out from 16th century to our days. Classified historic building in 1926.

Henri II Plantagenêt king on England died in a chapel of the castle, on July 7th, 1189, before being buried in the abbey of Fontevrault.
It is here that Jeanne d'Arc, 14?? - 1431, met on February 25th, 1429 Charles VII, 1403-1461, king of France, before taking part in the liberation of France as a war leader, galvanizing the armies.

CHINON is a french commune, located in the departement of Indre-et-Loire of the area Center, populated 8718 chinonais in 2005, distributed out of 39 km², that is to say 223.4 hab/km².

The commune is crossed by the Vienna river and the Negron River.

Roger

Hello Joël,
A fine capture of this impressive and massive tower. The composition is well framed using the bridge to draw the viewer into the scene. There is much detail to be seen in the stonework that stands out well under the cloudy sky. The row of flags bring a nice splash of colour to the image. Light, colours and sharpness are all good features here. Il me semble que TE marche encore lentement aujourd'hui.

Bonjour Joel ,

buona domenica,
amicalement

Hi Joël,
A very impressive castel, even if it seems to be quite ruined. A beautifully captured and well composed picture!
Kind regards
Gunnar

Joel,
This is a nicely composed shot of this castle tower. The bridge is used smartly to lead the eye into the shot. The details in the stone work is crisp and clear. The flags add a nice splash of color while the people add a sense of scale for the shot.
TFS,
Asa

Hello Joël,

They did some fine brickwork in the olden days too..!
Otherwise I notice the bridge as an integrated part of the castle, architecturally and defence wise...
A successful composition with good details, the visiting guy in red is an eye-catcher however small..!

Greetings,
Pablo -

Buongiorno Joel,
Le bandiere danno maggiore dinamicità all'immagine.
Buona settimana
Antonio

Bon weekend.

Pierre
