The Fayet castle, Fayet. (4 images).

The spiral staircase tower, and the chapel tower. (4 images).
The frontage and the spiral staircase tower. (2 images).

The Fayet castle, in Fayet commune, of the 16th century, was built around 1577 at the Renaissance period, probably on the site of a medieval castle of XIIème siècle. The seigniory of fayet, related to that of Brusque, nearby, was successively that of the Viscounts of Albi, Béziers, Carcassonne, the counts of Toulouse, and at XIVème siècle the lords of CASTELNAU-BRETENOUX which made build the current castle.

Refitted at 18th and 19th centuries, it is now a private residence. The castle is registered with the historic buildings since 2004.

The building has the form of a parallelogram, with four towers at the angles, and a fifth which shelters a spiral staircase.

In the court of the castle, one can see a monumental well of 16th century, built in 1564 on the initiative of Guy de CASTELNAU-BRETENOUX. Classified with the historic buildings since 1931.

Henri de Navarre, the future roi de France Henri IV, would have remained in the castle of Fayet.

The village of Fayet mentioned in 1144, is located at the confluence of Nuéjouls and "DOURDOU of CAMARÈS" rivers, and extends on the ROUGIER of Camarès.

_ A ROUGIER is a landscape characterized by red grounds, made of sandstones, clays and schists coloured by iron oxide.

_ The DOURDOU, known as "Dourdou de Camarès", takes its source at 1050 meters of altitude, in the mounts of Carroux and Espinouze, in Castanet-le-Haut, in the department of Hérault, it passes in Aveyron, before throwing in the TARN, on its left bank, in Broquiès in the department of the Tarn, after a course of 87 km² and the crossing of a catchment area of 658 km². Its flow can pass from a minimal flow of 1.5 m³/s to a maximum flow of 650 m³/s. "Dourdou de Camarès" description.

FAYET is a french commune, located in the department of Aveyron of the Midi-Pyrénées area, populated of 290 Fayetois in 2004, distributed out of 16 km², that is to say 19 hab./km².

The commune of Fayet is a Commune of the Rougier of Camarès., between the valleys of Sorgues, Dourdou and Grauzou rivers, in the Parc naturel régional des Grands Causses.

Hello Joël,
Here I am back again! The threatening sky sets the mood for this fine composition. I like the framing trees and the shadow play across the grassy area in front of the massive castle. Good colours and sharpness.

Hi Joel,
beautiful sunny shot, elagant composition and details, picturesque atmosphere, Tfs! Have a nice day! Kellemes napot kívánok!
György

Joel,
This is a great shot with fine framing by the trees. The dark sky provides excellent contrast for the brightly lit foreground. The lighting and colors are fine as is the photo's sharpness.
TFS,
Asa

Amicalement,
Charo

Bonsoir Joel, This appears as a very well preserved building, considering its age as indicated in your notes. I assume this is due to the fact it is privately owned. You have done a fine job capturing the large size of this castle. One can see from your WSs that it is indeed a considerably large building.
Nice vegetation surrounding the castle. Again my compliments for your fine notes. Regards, Roger

Hi Joel,
Nice green garden and yellowish castle, fantastic view in bright sunlight against cloudy sky, nice to see another sides of the castle in WSs, informative note to introduce the historical architecture, thanks for sharing.
Ally

Amicalement
Jacques
