Saint-Mesmin castle, Saint-André-sur-Sèvre

The keep.
Another view.

Castle of Saint-Mesmin la Ville, medieval fortress of the 14th century, built by Pierre de Montfaucon in 1370, and its Keep of the 15th century of 28 m, on a bank of Sevreau river, which is an affluent of The SÈVRE NANTAISE river.

It is a medieval fortress with hexagonal enclosure, flanked of five horseshoe towers. The keep of 28 m replaced one of the towers at the 15th century. This castle preserves a large amount of elements of the military architecture of the Middle Ages, witnesses of the developments in the technologies of war, loopholes for bows, loopholes for crossbows, machicolations, drawbridge.

_The SÈVRE NANTAISE is a river which takes its source to 215 m of altitude on the plateau of Gâtine, at the village of Gâs on the commune of Neuvy-Bouin in the DEUX-SÈVRES, and which is thrown in the Loire river in Nantes, after 159 kilometers of course.

_The SÈVRE NIORTAISE river is a coastal river of 158 km course, which takes its source close to Sepvret in Deux-Sèvres, crosses Niort, then goes down in the marsh from Poitou which it feeds, before throwing in the Atlantic Ocean in Aiguillon bay. The Sèvre Niortaise river and the Sèvre Nantaise river, gave their name to the department of Deux-Sèvres.

SAINT-ANDRÉ-SUR-SÈVRE is a french commune, located in the department of Deux-Sèvres of the Poitou-Charentes area, populated of 653 Saint-Andrésiens in 1999, distributed out of 20 km², that is to say 33 hab./km²).

Bonne semaine,
Roger

Hello Joël,
Another reminder of the warlike past experienced by the people of Poitou-Charentes throughout the Middle Ages and much later. The point of view is well chosen to show off the impressive architecture to great effect with the water course helping to draw the viewer into the image. Good colour contrasts and excellent sharpness. The lovely sky makes a splendid backdrop.

Bonjour Joel,
a very attractive and very well composed impression of this wonderful castle. I have also seen the other images from this place in your gallery and I must say that this POV works very well. The light and the moody colors are beautiful. I love the rural atmosphere that you have captured here. My compliments!
Warm regards
Harriet

Hi Joël,
The colours here are very soft and subdued and your position of view is also very good. The inclusion of water in the foreground is very good and this castle looks indeed interesting. Frankly, I think it looks a lot like a very ordinary farmhouse with a big tower attached. But unusually fortified...
Kind regards
Gunnar

Ola Joel ,
Que belo castelo com estas muralhas altas , tem uma bonita arquitectura com as paredes redondas , bom primeiro plano com este rio a cruzar a imagem , gostei muito do céu, parabéns !!
Um abraço Gonçalo

Joël

Hello Joel,

clear picture of impressive architecture that is decorated with beautiful clouds and nice diagonal of the brook.

Well done

Best regards
Romana

Joel,
This is a nicely composed shot of this castle with the creek leading the eye into the shot. The angle of the shot works well giving the scene a nice sense of depth. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has nice sharpness.

Good morning Joel,
nice presentation of the Saint-Mesmin's castle, surrounding from the dense grass and the big trees. The passing by water canal creates depth and the blue and puffy sky a great contrast with the castle.

Salut Joël
La compo est bien équilibrée avec ce ruisseau qui coupe le premier plan en diagonale, et ce beau château qui occupe bien le fond.
En plus la qualité générale est bonne.

Hi Joel,
looking at your gallery I was thinking: is your country so densely packed with this charming treasures or it is you who is so successful in finding them to present here. May be both :)
This one is so different again: I like the broad round tower so unique.
Beautiful presentation with a stream in the foreground and some plants.
Very well presented,
M
