The castle of the Lady, Montsoreau

One view.
Other view. July 20th, 2010.

The castle of Montsoreau of the 15th century, built according to the will of Jean II of Chambes, adviser of the king de France Charles VII 1403-1461, was preceded by seigniorial fortified towns by defense or influence: Castrum de Montsorelli in 1089, Castellum Montsorelli of 1093, then Mons Sorelli and finally Mons Sorel in 1107.
It is the only “Château de la Loire”, built truly in edge of the LOIRE river.

It is an exceptional site with the confluence of the LOIRE and Vienne rivers, with the crossroads of Anjou, Poitou and Touraine.

The castle of Montsoreau, is known in particular by the novel of Alexandre Dumas 1802-1870, "the Lady of Monsoreau”, 1846.

_La LOIRE, the “last river wild” and longest of France, takes its source with 1048 meters of altitude in the Massif-Central with the “Mont Gerbier de Jonc”, in the commune of Sainte-Eulalie in Ardèche, and after a course of 1,013 kilometers through a basin which occupies 1/5 of the French territory, throws itself by a broad estuary in the Atlantic Ocean in the department of Loire-Atlantique. The Loire Valley from Sully-on-Loire in Loiret to Saint-Florent-le-Vieil in Maine-et-Loire, is registered since the year 2000 with the World heritage of UNESCO, for its biological diversity and its historical and cultural richness.

MONTSOREAU is a French commune, located in the department of Maine-et-Loire of the area of the Countries of the Loire, populated of 544 Montsoreliens, distributed on 6 km², that is to say 99hab./km².

In the middle of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional natural park, Montsoreau is a Village of Charm of Anjou, and one of the most beautiful villages of France, classified with the World heritage by UNESCO.

Joel,
This is a nicely composed shot of this castle. The inclusion of the flowers in the foreground add fine depth for the shot. The angle of the shot works well allowing us to see more than one side of the building. The lighting and colors are fine and the photo has fine sharpness.
TFS,
Asa

Bonjour Joel ,
Bravo

Hello Joël,
A fine composition of this impressive château taken from a completely different angle to my shots. The blend of architectural styles is well demonstrated. The purple flowers make a lovely contrasting frame for the stonework, the detail of which is very nicely rendered.

Hi Joel,
I am purple because of the envy, the medieval buildings are habitable these days in France! :-) This is a picturesque photo of this beautiful place, the composition is very spectacular, the flowers in the foreground are beautiful, great view, Tfs! Have a nice day! Kellemes napot kívánok!

Bonjour Joel

Hi Joel.

Not a fantastic light or great weather, but the very careful composition and the lovely flowers makes up for that. I like the way the eye follows the diagonal from the flower pot to the castle and then to the broad river beyond. The top of the chateau breaks up the dull sky very well. Superb building, and another splendid shot of great French archtitecture.

Regards,
Andrew

Bonjour Joel

Roger

Hi Joël,
Yes, this is a castle I recognize, we were here seven years ago and here is my version. I like your diffenent POV here, where you have included these flowers into the foreground. This is indeed a very pleasant view, as this is also a very pleasant town. We still have happy memories from here!
Kind regards
Gunnar

Hi Joel,

I like that place. POV is very good, colors too.

Ciao caro Joel,
Bravissimo, caro amico!
Ciao, buon mercoledì!
Paolo

Bonsoir Joel, This is a very beautiful and impressive castle. It is truly amazing how well these still look after so many years. This is a fine effort to show the river in the background from the castle. Interesting note on the river, and I thought the Seine was France's largest river. TREK is keeping me informed via posters like you. You inclusion of the lovely purple flowers in the foreground provides the viewers good depth for the picture. Great Job. Regards, Roger

Amicalement.
Marie-Louise.
