The city of Chauvigny, the city with five castles, 10th 15th centuries, was founded around the year 1000, by the bishops of Poitiers, lords of Chauvigny then barons as from the 15th century.

A 2 km length enclosure surrounded with the 15th century four churches and five castles built in the vicinity to each other.
The first bishop of Poitiers and lord of Chauvigny is Isembert 1st, died in 1047. The bishops followed one another until 1789.

One can see in the high medieval city of Chauvigny:

_THE BARONY CASTLEde la BARONNIE,fortified castle and keep of the 11th 12th 15th centuries, 80 m out of 50 m, listed in 1025, castle of bishops of Poitiers.

_The COLLEGIAL SAINT-PIERRE, of 11th 12th centuries, quoted at the 11th century, whose famous capitals of the columns describe various episodes of the life of the Virgin.

_The CASTLE KEEP of GOUZON, fortified castle of the 11th 12th centuries, which belonged to bishops of Poitiers as from 1335.

_The CASTLE of MONTLÉON, of the 11th century, fortified castle listed at the 10th century, which belonged to bishops of Poitiers as from 1295.

_The CASTLE says the TOWER of FLINS, fortified castle of the 12th 15th centuries.

As from 1346, the city was strongly tested by the One hundred Year old War, the Wars of religion, the French revolution. It was restored as from 1843.

Hi Joël,
A very impressive building and a very skilful capture and stitch. I like the added view of the red umbrellas at the café here, with people resting along the beautiful cathedral. A very interesting note, as usual!

Belle composition.

Bonjour Joel, I am running late in my critiques and just managed to find this delightful shot of this massive assemblage of churches and other structures. Excellent shots in your workshop as well. The history of these churches is equally impressive. This St Pierre is fascinating in that it has so many facades. I am sure to maintain this in its best form is a real financial challenge. I think our world is most fortunate that despite the many wars, there are still edifices such as this one to command ones attention and worship regardless of their religion. You do extremely well in your presentations and I admire the attention that you give the viewer in your excellent choices of pictures and your notes. Regards, Roger

Amicalement,
Charo
