The current Sainte-Radegonde church dates from the 11th 13th 14th centuries.

A church mentioned on the 6th century, preceded a romanesque church devoted in 1099 and partially rebuilt at the 13th century, of which there remains the romanesque bell-tower porch and the chorus novels, and the nave by Gothic style from Angers. The blazing Gothic gate date of the 15th century
A crypt of the 10th century shelters the tomb of Sainte-Radegonde and two of its religious companions, Sainte-Agnes and Sainte-Disciole.

Radegonde, 520-587, daughter of Berthaire king of Thuringe in Germany, was kidnaped into 531 by the sons of Clovis I, 466-511, Thierry and Clotaire I, 498-561, kings of the Franks. This last made have in Soissons a Latin culture to Radegonde, before forcing it with the marriage.
Radegonde, ending up fleeing the fatal violence of her husband while taking refuge in the religion then while being withdrawn towards 550 on the borders of Anjou and of Poitou, created in Poitiers the monastery Notre-Dame, future Sainte-Croix abbey into 567, where its community lived according to the rule of Saint-Césaire, 470-542, bishop of Arles.
Radegonde, nun queen, died on August 13th, 587 and was buried in the chapel “Sainte-Marie hors les murs"”, which rebuilt will become the Sainte-Radegonde church.

The town of Poitiers is associated with the great important battles for the French history which took place in the vicinity. They are the battles of Poitiers:

_The third one occurred on September 19th, 1356 in NOUAILLÉ-MAUPERTUIS in wood and small valleys around the ABBEY NOTRE-DAME and SAINT-JUNIEN.
The ambitions and claims of Edouard III, 1312-1377, king of England on the kingdom of France, expeditions of Prince Noir his son, 1330-1376, starting from Guyenne, will show the DEFEAT of 1356.
The barons, knights and soldiers of king de France, JEAN II LE BON, "the Good", 1319-1364, are made beat and decimated. The king of France is make captive.
English requires an enormous ransom, the king will be finally r

Jean-Charles

Hello Joël,
Difficult to capture the façade of this church as it is rather hemmed in by its surroundings. You have done well here, making good use of the vertical format. I like the angle of view and the ambient light. The architectural detail is very well captured with natural tones and good sharpness.

Bonne fin de WE,
Roger

Hi Joël,
A very impressive church and a very fine composition, depending stongly on the vertical lines that dominate this image. There is also a good diagonal line from the roof of the left building, continuing through the church. Well seen!
Kind regards
Gunnar

Bonsoir Joel, This is a truly magnificent building with its main spire rising to the heavens. I like the composition with the viewer being able to see how the church is nestled into this area with a side building on the left showing some red roof and also vegetation. My compliments to you on your excellent notes, as usual. Have a nice week. Regards, Roger

Joël

A very neatly composed photo Joel - very thing is very straight for a wide angle vertical photo (if you've straightened it that has worked extremely well). Your usual good light management.
cheers
Ian

Salut Joel.
Cordialement.
Luis.

Hello Joël,

A picturesque town scene, with the narrow street leading up to the medieval church!
The details are well recorded and the field of depth covers all of interest...
A well balanced composition with varied light..!

Greetings,
Pablo -

Ciao Joel,
ben fatto
Giorgio

Bonjour Joel!
I really like the French Romanesque-Gothic architecture. The particular style of Europe. Interestingly, the Italian, German, Flemish, only differently. It is surprising that the church is almost hidden, no space before it. Almost to the houses are multi-building. Converting a beautiful facade, with a polygonal tower is beautiful. The magic of the environment. Step colors and lighting. Good rates. Excellent photo.
Sincerely,
Csaba

Tres beau choix, Joel. Bravo encore.
