After visiting in Sintra Palace da Pena, Moorish Castle and Quinta da Regaleira (and in National Palace I was a few days earlier) we went to Monserrate. Aires showed me his secret POV (thanks!!). The Palace looks marvelous from there, so I show it now.

The designer of this suggestive little romantic palace was James Knowles Jr. and it was built in 1858 on the initiative of Francis Cook, Viscount Monserrate, being one of the most interesting examples of Sintra Romanticism. A work in the Romantic-Orientalist spirit, with its great circular tower, bulbous cupolas and exotic decoration, the building recalls in particular the famous Brighton Pavilion of Nash, and English Romantic architecture.

However, as José Augusto França says, "Monserrate has a somewhat different scenographic sense, based on a greater wealth of archaeological details", constituted by its inspirational roots which - via English sources - are grafted on to the Moghul architecture. A unique case of Romanticism in Portugal.

Witaj Malgorzata,

Very coloured edifice, very coloured shot. The red colors of the roofs in the Fg but too in the BG arise very well in the image. I like the composition with a greta prospect open to the landscape on the left and on the right.
Have a nice day,
Roger

Cześć
Piękny ten klasztor, wygląda jak baśniowy zamek.
Widać mnisi cenili sobie i piękno i wygodę.
Kolosalne kolory i ostrość.
Pozdrawiam
Józek

Sekretny POV imponujący, ale obciąłbym skrawek nieba bo pojawia się wrażenie jakby horyzont leciał w lewo.

Pozdrawiam.
PS. I znowu bezludnie wrrrr....

Fine depth and contrast

Ciao cara Malgorzata,
the photo could be perfect if you didn't have too saturated the red and if there was not that ugly structure (but it is not your guilt) behind the palace. Anyway, the architecture of this castle is very beautiful. Excellent sharpness.
Ciao, have a nice Sunday!
Paolo
PS: I have been sorry for your President Kaczynski.

Hello Malgorzata, I guess I missed this one when I was gone. The shot seems to literally jump out at one when surfing the gallery. Wonderful vivid colors again, which are to my liking. Alas, I have never beenn to Portugal, but this is definitely a place to visit based on this wondrous building and your shot of it. The reds and browns in this structure are really amazing. So is this palace occupied by someone or is it a place one can view inside? Have a great weekend. Roger

Hi Maggie,
is the roof really that red, it looks freshly painted, maybe it is , I can see the construction area. Strong light and so vivid colors, it almost hurt my eyes looking at it too long :)
Very nice compositon, beautiful day it looks like with great light.

Grande partecipante a meeting fotografici .....
La foto ....lascia un po sbalorditi ,,,la nota invece spiega la complessitŕ delle forme ....portoghese , inglese ed infine un soffuso romanticismo ..orientale che porta fino all'India ed oltre .
Ottima condivisione
