It is towards 690 that monks of Saint-Hilaire of Poitiers provide the first foundations of the abbey Saint-Junien of Nouaillé-Maupertuis.

THREE BATTLES of very great importance took place CLOSE TO the town of POITIERS. They are the BATTLES OF POITIERS.

_The first one proceeded into 507 in VOUILLÉ, where CLOVIS overcame and also killed the king of the Visigoths Alaric II, who had authority on Aquitaine.

_The Second one had as place the hamlet of Moussais in VOUNEUIL-SUR-VIENNE in 732, where CHARLES MARTEL overcame the sarrazins and killed their chief, the emir Abd Al-Rahman, governor of Spain.

_The THIRD ONE occurred on September 19th, 1356 in NOUAILLÉ-MAUPERTUIS in wood and small valleys around the ABBEY NOTRE-DAME AND SAINT-JUNIEN.

The barons, knights and soldiers of king de France, JEAN II LE BON, "the Good", are made beat and decimated. The king of France is make captive.
English requires an enormous ransom, the king will be finally released after the signature of the treaty of Brétigny in 1360 in which it is agreed to pay 3 million ecus of gold and to leave to English almost all the South-west of France.
A MONUMENT points out the extent of the defeat and the detailed course of the battle

Hello Joël,
I like the view over the rooftops, which make an interesting contrast with the background architecture. Also, the soft light and colours. Really, a very attractive ensemble of architecture. I hope that your family and loved ones in this region have not been unduly affected by Xynthia. Strong winds in this area during the night but fortunately no major damage to report.

Bon dimanche.

Pierre

Hi Joel,
Beautiful view of this interesting architecture. It is a very nice church hidden in the countryside, the remains of the walls. And well it complements the red roof in the foreground.

Bonjour Joel ,

Hi Joel,
a splendid view, the POV is very spectacular I like the architectural details and the nostalgic atmosphere, the composition is superb likewise. Beautiful place, Tfs! Have a nice Sunday! Kellemes Vasárnapot!
George (György)

Hi Joël,
What attracts me most here are the fine graphical patterns and the textures of the red brick roofs here. But it is indeed also a very good composition with the clear diagonal along the beautiful buildings.
Kind regards
Gunnar

Hi Joel! I like the view over the rooftops, is an impressive place which make an interesting contrast with of architecture BG with the soft light and colours. The wonderful old monastery! A note with great work! Really, a very attractive ensemble of architecture.

Georgios

Bonjour Joel!
very nice composition. In the foreground of the colorful monastery roof (architectural term), I do not know the machine that translates well, well recorded in the fortress town. The church is an interesting mix of architectural styles, the choir seems to build new, because it does not fit the tower's mass. Of course, this is the photo rating, I just want to see what I see. The picture, of course, very good. Sincerely, Csaba

Bonjour Joel, Once again, very intersting and informative notes accompanied by a beautiful picture of a group of structures, starring a delightful looking dome. I am contuously amazed at how well your country and your people have maintained these magnificent buildings. Something about pride here. I always look forward to seeing your shots. As usual this is really stunning and the red roof in the foreground leads one to the setting. Have a great week. Roger
