Chapel and castle, La Roque-sainte-Marguerite.

One sight.
Other sight.

Old Chapel of the castle, now parish church, of the 11th century with nave in cradle and apse in half dome.
Old castle of the 13th century, which one sees the cylindrical tower which made keep.

The village is in the "GORGES de la DOURBIE", Dourbie river canyon, on its Right Bank.

Dourbie is a Cevennes river. It takes its source with the mount of Aulas, in Linguas, to 1300 m, the south of the mountain of Aigoual, in the department of Gard. It also runs in the department of Aveyron and is thrown, after 920 m of unevenness and 72 km of course through throats and valleys between "CAUSSE NOIR", black causse and "CAUSSE OF LARZAC", in Millau in the Tarn with the bridge of Cureplat to 320 m, him even tributary of the Garonne. Its irregular and seasonal course with known the minimal flow of 2,9 cubic meters a second, to reach up to 728 cubic meters a second maximum flow. Dourbie is famous near the trout fishermen.

_The "CAUSSE NOIR" extends on 200 km², (on the departments of Aveyron, Gard and Lozère), and is smallest of "GRANDS CAUSSES", large causses.
It is limited by the deep canyons of Jonte river to North, of Dourbie river in the south, the Tarn river in the west, and by the buttresses of the Cevennes in the East.

_The "CAUSSE du LARZAC" is vastest and southernmost of "GRANDS CAUSSES", large causses. Its 1000 km ² of plateau rise from 600 to 900 meters. It is limited to the North-East by Dourbie river which separates it from "Causse Noir", in the North-West the Tarn river separates it from the plateau of Lévézou, in the west it stops with the depression of Roquefort. Its surface is strewn with famous sites with the military orders, Knights of the Order of the Temple and Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem.

_The "GRANDS CAUSSES", in the south of the Massif Central, are delimited in north by the plateau of "Aubrac", in the east by the Cévennes, the south by the plain of the "lodévois", in the west by the plateau of "Lévézou". These are plateaus limestones whose altitude varies from 700 to 1250 meters of altitude, and of surface going up to 1000 km².
The "Grands Causses" are formed by important "Causses of Larzac" (1000 km²), of "Sauveterre" (550 km²), "Méjean" (330 km²), and "Noir" (200 km²), but also of the causses "Comtal", "Rouge" and of "Sévérac", and many small peripheral causses like causses of "Mende", "Blandas", "Changefèges", "Bégon", etc… No waterway circulates on the surface of the plates, because the rainwater infiltrates in the karstic, generating networks of many swallow-holes and caves, to re-appear in the valleys. Geology of causses and the cévennes.

La Roque-Sainte-Marguerite is a french commune, located in the department of Aveyron of the Midi-Pyrenees area, populated of 172 Margueritois, divided on 50 km², that is to say 3 hab./km².

The commune include 3 villages: La Roque, in the valley of Dourbie river; Saint-Véran, cradle of the family of Montcalm, on the buttresses of "Causse Noir" and Pierrefiche on "Causse du Larzac".

José Bové, whose true name is Joseph Bové, born on June 11th, 1953 in Talence, celebrity of the altermondialism, is living in the commune.

Hi Joël,
A very interesting church/castle. Looks like a strongly fortified place with this round tower. Also here a beautiful and a good picture as proof!
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Kind regards

Pierre

Hi Joel,
Good bird view shoot to show these medieval architectures, the road at the back look like a tail to these old architectures, I like this unique old church, the bells look like angels too, thanks for sharing WS too.

Hello Joël,
Beautiful architecture, flowering green vegetation and warm sunny weather, there are all of these in your picture, and these are what we are need for, when outside it is so cold and gloomy. Excellent photo radiating warmth and spring-season atmosphere!
Best regards and Merry Xmas!
Sergiy

Hi Joel

What seems to work in this scene, are the 3 layers of rooftops, creating depth and height.
the 2 curved roads also help to give the photo depth.
Smartly composed Joel
well done
Cheers
