A modest castle. 13th 17th 19th centuries.

On a first castle listed in 1280, of which there remains structures and keep bases, was rebuilt a new castle at the 17th century, quadrilateral with four towers.
It is Antoine de Barbeirac, marquis of Saint-Maurice, who had the castle in 1753.
The castle transformed starting from the beginning of the 19th century, is private property.

the commune of Saint-Maurice-Navacelles, has an exceptional natural heritage with the Navacelles circus, Grand classified Site, member of the Network of the Great Sites of France.
Saint-Maurice-Navacelles is near the Regional natural park of Large Causses and the National park of the Cevennes.

The commune is located at the south-eastern borders of causse of Larzac. It is delimited in north and the east by the deep Vis river canyon, and in the south by the Seranne mountain which dominates all the low Languedocien country.

Larzac is a calcareous plateau of approximately 1000 km ² of surface, of altitude varying from 600 to 900 meters, with the Mediterranean and mountain climate, surrounded by deep valleys and canyons.
It is a territory splendid, unique in France, where the men followed one another since prehistory, leaving there Neolithic dolmens, menhirs, enclosures, tumulus and strengthened caves, Roman necropoles wisigothic, habitats, Knights of the order of the Temple villages, farms, castles, churches. The pastoralism, the ewes, modelled the landscape.

Saint-Maurice-Navacelles is a French commune, located in the department of the Herault of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 142 inhabitants in 1999, divided out of 69 km², that is to say 2 hab./km².

The commune of Saint-Maurice-Navacelles results from the fusion of the three communes from Saint-Maurice, Navacelles and Madières.
the inhabitants divide themselves into 3 villages, 6 hamlets and 11 farms.

Hi Joel,
modest, but elegant and attractive castle from Languedoc Roussillion. The composition of the photo is spectacular, the beautiful clouds adds a lot to the mood, the colours and lights are splendid. Beautiful peaceful impression, Tfs! Have a nice day!

Hello Joël,

The three different centuries have carefully for a excellent architecture image cared.
Very well perspective, pleasant for look at.
Good composition and lovely colours too. TFS.
Very well done, TFS.

Best regards,

Hello Joël,
Looks quite a homely castle, a feeling accentuated by the more day to day houses in the foreground. I like the point of view with the eyes channelled towards the castle by the houses either side; also the presence of the little tree growing in what was presumably a well at one time. Good light with natural looking colours and fine clarity.

Hi Joel,
Beautifull composition, excellent sharpness and colors.
Good work, the details and light are great.

Hi Joel,
I study all these pictures from here with great interest. This is surely our favorite part of France! Although a long way to drive from Sweden, we have enjoyed many fine holidays here. Not exactly this place, but who knows. I would really like to se this area. Very fine pictures, including the workshops!
Kind regards

ottimo lavoro

Modest Joel? Yes but featuring one of those great tile roofs that you get in Languedoc. Good POV and great colour with good use of the clouds and sky.

Hi Joel,
nice the view of the castle although in nowadays is a private property and surrounded from the exterior wall.I like the way that is transformed for use in our days.Well done.

Have a nice day,danos

Salut Joel.

Hello Joel,

The small castle is a fine piece of architecture!
Composition wise well framed by the buildings in the street, and the impressive cloud formation adds to the atmosphere...
Good light and fine details!
