Art and religion.

Religious art and Sacristy of the XVIIIe century, of the church Saint-Louis des Chartrons of the XIXe century.
(11 assembled images. Photographs allowed thanks to the kindness of a lady having charges the sacristy with it. Few inhabitants of Bordeaux know this superb place).

Sacristy.
Church.

The furniture and the skirtings of the sacristy were carried out in mahogany tree of Cuba, for the church of the Carmelite friars dedicated to Notre-Dame of the Visitation, built of 1724 to 1735, but demolished then in 1875, to be replaced by the church Saint-Louis des Chartrons, completed in 1880, devoted in 1895.

One distinguishes in the sacristy a painting embedded in a piece of furniture, carried out in 1862 by Antoine-Placid GIBERT, (Painter of Bordeaux 1806-1875). It represents the pope Pie IX in prayer.

The Saint-Louis church of Chartrons, was built by Pierre-Charles Brun, (Architect of Bordeaux 1825-1902). Its nave, its frontage and buttresses, its stained glasses, are typically neo-gothic.
This church is located in the district of Chartrons, name which comes from the Chartreux monks who settled at the time where Bordeaux was under the English domination since the marriage into 1154 of Aliénor of Aquitaine with Henri II Plantagenêt king d' Angleterre in 1156, until the end of the One hundred Year old War.

The church shelters most important and the most beautiful organ of the Aquitaine region.

A sacristy, is the additional place of a church, where are arranged clothing, accessories and ornaments of the worship, are used for the rites of the mass, and where the priest prepares to celebrate the mass. A person, layman or nun, called sexton, "sacristain" or "sacristine", have in load the maintenance and operation of the sacristy.

Nicou

Hello Joel,
A magnificent interior view, very well composed and straightened with all details well visible in the dark wooden panels. It took me some moments to figure out what the floating egg at the ceiling was, until I realised it is a light reflector for a halogen lamp deformed by the perspective... Very good natural colours too.
Well done.
Paul

Hello Joël,
A great capture of this lovely interior with its beautifully rich woodwork. The point of view is well chosen to show off the magnificence of the architecture to great effect. Perfect exposure with superb tones and clarity. A fine piece of stitching.

bonjour joel

It's something new to see a stitch of an interior. With so many more details it must have been difficult to do. Well done. I couldn't figure out what the egg shape is on the ceiling. I suppose it's some kind of light shade. It does catch the eye a bit, but that's not your fault.

Bonsoir Joel

ottimo lavoro
Giorgio

Hi Joel,
Good contrast between old and new, the ceiling there seem fantastic with a hanging shpere lamp, nice old wooden furniture, clean and tidy corner, good pov and good perspective effect, distinct indoor images, good shoot.

a bientôt
juliette

Ciao Joel,

Jean-Charles
