|The Laguna Chaxa, located in the Salar de Atacama. Here we have an oasis in the middle of an inhospitable and dry region.|
The Atacama Desert is the highest and most arid desert in the world. It is also a desert full of salt. The Salar de Atacama is the place with the highest concentration of salt in Chile. The Laguna Chaxa is formed by rainwater that infiltrates the mountains of the Cordillera and returns to the surface in this lower region.
Here you can find hundreds of wild flamingos at any time of the day. They say that sometimes it is possible to get here and see none, but this is very rare to happen.
