Although Auckland is the most populous city in New Zealand, the capital is Wellington, with 412,500 residents. It is located at the south-western tip of the North Island, between Cook Strait and the Rimutaka Range. As the nation's capital since 1865, the New Zealand Government and Parliament, Supreme Court and most of the civil service are based in the city. Architectural sights include the Government Building—one of the largest wooden buildings in the world—as well as the iconic Beehive. Despite being much smaller than Auckland, Wellington is also referred to as New Zealand's cultural capital.

Here the Parliament buildings, three of four.
The first on the left (only a very small part is seen) is the Bowen House - the a 22-storey office building in Lambton Quay, Wellington, New Zealand. Since 1991, the building has been leased by Parliamentary Services. In the middle - iconic Beehive. The Beehive is the common name for the Executive Wing of the New Zealand Parliament Buildings. It is so-called because of its shape is reminiscent of that of a traditional woven form of beehive known as a "skep". It is registered as a Category I heritage building by Heritage New Zealand. On the right Edwardian neoclassical-style Parliament House (1922). Whilst most of the individual buildings are outstanding for different reasons, the overall setting that has been achieved "has little aesthetic or architectural coherence".

The Prime Minister of New Zealand (Māori: Te Pirimia o Aotearoa) is the head of government of New Zealand. The incumbent Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, leader of the New Zealand Labour Party, took office on 26 October 2017.
She is the world's youngest female head of government (and fourth youngest overall), having taken office at age 37. Giving birth to a daughter on 21 June 2018, Ardern became the world's second elected head of government to give birth while in office.

Hello Malgo,
I agree that these buildings don't fit perfectly together, but I guess it is reasonable that they reflect the times and styles when they were built, showing a continuity of the democratic process. Wellington is a fairly unknown city to me, so any photo from there is welcome on the site. This photo is straightforward but well taken.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Malgo,
It is indeed a strange combination and not entirely harmonious, especially the glass and concrete building on the extreme left. I like the oblique point of view and the reflections to be observed in the Beehive. Fine colours and clarity.

A pity you don't like wine; I would love to share a convivial glass or two with you. Despite that, Saint Emilion is a lovely town and well worth a visit if you are in that part of the world. Lots of lovely architecture - a place to wander and savour, though some of the streets are very steep.

Hello Malgo,

We get a wonderful architectural picture.
Different of build style, well found.
Sharpness and clarity are amazing.
Very well done, TFS.

Have a nice day,
John.

Ciao cara Malgo, great view of fantastic architecture, excellent perspective, splendid light and wonderful colors very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Ciao Malgo,

Hi, Malgo.
An interesting architectural complex, which monopolize the most important functions of the government, without a doubt the first building with a century old is the most interesting, the next one with that modern construction in a circular form is also, but so different styles, are shocking.
The management of color and light, are magnificent, highlighting the beauty and sharpness of the image.
Very well done. I like it
Enjoy a good day
Very best regards.
Luis.

Swietny widok na rzadowe budynki, demokracja ma sie tam zdecydowanie lepiej niz u nas.
Ladna architektura - swietnia pokazana
pozdrawiam
Piotr

Hi Malgo
similar i think to where I live. Vancouver is by far the most popular city and the most well known to foreigners. However, the smaller, less populated Victoria is the Capital of our province British Columbia. The Parliament buildings are in Victoria not Vancouver.

this Beehive place sounds interesting, too bad we can't see interior photos. I bet its a great place for photos.
Good idea to show us these buildings, even though I know you're not much of an architecture lover haha
cheers
Craig

Hello Malgo,
Cool capture of the two buildings in completely different styles, but they go really well together. In The Netherlands The Beehive is the name of a chain of department stores, but this government building looks also really good. The light was very nice and well handled.
Lars

Hi Malgo,
The modern round building is a nice and very different shape of an edifice.
Managed to show contrast of texture, contrast of time's, and a POV chosen from a fair distance to include as much as possible details.
Wish you a nice Friday,
Ike

Hello Malgo,

I saw this building when I was in Wellington. Also I did the cable car up to the summit lookout. Good sharpness and a nice reflection in the ground floor plaza. Tfs!

Hlelo

Buona domenica
Carlo

Hello Malgo,
The building in the middle does indeed look like a beehive. Or like the Tower of Babel.
We see here very different styles of architecture next to each other.
I find the trees very remarkable. They add a tropical touch to this architecture picture.
Best regards, Paul

malgo

a nice view of the classic building contrasting with the modern one. what called my attention was the use of these plants at right, here they are named uvarana and are native of the coldest areas of my state, maybe these ones are relatives of those.

take care

jorge
