Continuing with my theme from Vancouver, of areas which I don't usually post from, here we have another scene I captured late at night while cruising the streets and sidewalks.

Because I took this handheld and quite late at night with very little light, the man isn't perfectly focused. However, given the circumstances I'm happy with it.

This was taken along Granville street. Granville street is most commonly known for being the party area of Vancouver. Lots of nightclubs/danceclubs, bars, music venues, and a few places where you can get a tattoo if you're heart so desires it.

I was photographing the tattoo store, when I noticed this cool looking man with his hat, beard, and casual attire strolling towards me. I pretended to continue focusing in on the Tattoo sign and store, trying not to be TOO obvious that I'm wanting to photograph him and make him upset.

There's just something about this scene that I like, its gritty nature and gritty man seem to go hand in hand.

Hello Craig,
This man doesn't have any visible tattoo, but maybe he was planning to get one. In any case he arrived just in time for you, and along with the signs and the lights and the night-time atmosphere generally he is part of a very interesting photo with a great atmosphere. I would say that under the given conditions he is as sharp as could possibly be demanded. Although many of your wide angle views of the Vancouver skyscrapers are cleverly taken, I guess you know that I find this kind of street-shots more interesting.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Craig, the sign to the tattoo shop is very interesting but this guy is really great. Excellent composition. I like the atmosphere and the colours and sharpness are splendid in theswe conditions.

Kind regrads MAlgo

Hello Craig, from the look in his eye, I have a sneaking suspicion that he knew that you were actually taking a picture of him!
The light from the tattoo parlour lights him nicely.
Quite an atmospheric shot, I get a real sense of the place.
Well done, regards Jean.

Hello Craig,
Gritty is not what comes to mind when looking at this person - but indeed a character with some oddness.
captured well that moment, hope the guy was not sore at you.
I can understand the ambiance told about in the note.
Have a nice new day,
Ike

Ciao Craig, great portrait of old man, excellent perspective, wonderful colors and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hello Craig
I recognize in your description the way I also try to involve people in my photos. It has to be done rather quick, no time to search for the best camera-setting and many pictures made this way aren’t really good: out of focus, too dark or too light.
But your picture is excellent. Man at the right spot. The board for the tattoo-shop also and we can even see that we can eat a pizza inside. Warm evening-colours .
In brief: A splendid moody picture of the dark side of Vancouver. (I suppose all the outlaws came back to Granville Street after our visit this summer)
Have a nice day. Groet Rob

Hello Craig,

This is real a nice as street view with the man with smile on his face.
Also the old architecture makes your picture attractive.
An excellent composition and perfect presentation.
Very well done, TFS.

Best regards,
John.

Hello Craig,

He was looking at you.... you photographed an interesting scene with the man and the tattoo sign and store, I like the picture atmosphere, well seen,

Best regards,

Sergio

Ha! Ha! Craig, you sound like Claude, who always has his camera ready for action when people are in the street and is very good at being surreptitious.
This guy just had to be photographed! He looks like someone from the old wild west, searching for the swing doors of the saloon!
The setting is great, nicely angled, subdued lighting and lots of signs to interest.

Have a great day,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig,
A great impression of Vancouver night life. The inclusion of this old man with his small hat and white beard is superb right next to the older and newer signs of the tattoo parlour. I think the sharpness is superb too.

Greeting.
Nice view at night and a moment, good text ...
Beautifully displayed place and moment, good contrast and sharpness, nice colors, beautifully captured moment.
Nice moment in the night, nice advertisements on the facades.
All the best, happy.

Bonjour, cher Craig,
Encore une réussite de lieux insolites et d'un moment particulier avec ce personnage à la mine pas très sympathique.
J'aime beaucoup l'ambiance générale qui se dégage de cette composition, l'on dirait une image extraite d'un film.
Amitiés.
Philippe

Hi Craig,

You have captured well the smiling expression of the man. The point of view is showing the details of the facade of the buildings. The surrounding light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.
