[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
When adding a photo here on TrekEarth, you have a default list of "Swedish states" to chose from. These "states" here on TE are the traditional provinces, "landskap" in Swedish. These are the historical, geographical and cultural regions and have no administrative purpose at all. They were replaced already in 1634 by a new subdivision of Sweden into counties "län".

The borders around the Gota River estuary were established in 1101, in the so called "Three Kings Meeting" when Sweden was granted a corridor to the sea, and the total area around the estuary. The area about 10 km south of the estuary, Halland, belonged to Denmark and the area about 10 km north of the estuary, Bohuslän, belonged to Norway.

In 1397 these Scandinavian countries were united (the Kalmar Union) and there was a relative peace. Since Sweden left the union in 1523, the Danes wanted this area back. The strongly fortified city of Gothenburg was founded in 1621, to protect this estuary. Finally, both Halland and Bohuslän became Swedish at the treaty of Roskilde in 1658.

Since Sweden was subdivided in counties since 1634, a new county called Göteborgs och Bohus län was established in 1680. This county included both the city of Gothenburg and the old province of Bohuslän (note the spelling). The old province of Västergötland had already been divided into Älvsborgs län and Skaraborgs län.

In 1998 the new county of Västra Götalands län, consisting of all these three "län" was established.

This is the short explanation why so many people that add pictures from Gothenburg here on TE, very often misplace Gothenburg. They believe it is in the historical province of Bohuslän, when it is in fact always was in Västergötland.

However, this picture is from the northern part of the city of Gothenburg. It is from Sillvik (Herring Bay) and this part of the Hising Island was never part of Västergötland. This place was Norway until 1658 and it still belongs to the old province of Bohuslän!

Ciao Gunnar
Complimenti
Ciao e buon inizio di settimana

Hello Gunnar,

A very interesting but complex note about the divisions of your country at different times in history. I think I understand! Similar confusions, of course, exist here in Britain where changes to boundaries and names have been commonplace over the centuries.

This is a stunningly detailed and sharp picture, even when viewed at its massive size on "beta" TE! Yet your composition is excellent and pleasing, the light and the colours are lovely and your exposure is perfect. Fabulous technical quality as we have come to expect from you!

Excellent!

Kind Regards,

John.

Exquisite light and very fine detailing here Gunnar. This shot really shows off the beauty of the natural world and is a real pleasure to study, the quality is top class. Have a lovely evening Rosemary

Dear Gunnar,
a very interesting note is accompanying this wonderful Image. You captured the essence of the Baltic Sea in your region. The warm light makes the image very attractive. I also like these characteristic clouds that appear on a sunny but cold day by the sea. My compliments!
Warm regards

Hello Gunnar ,
This is a splendid seascape , especially for the contrast between the beautiful lit rocks in the FG , and thedarker grey sea and cloudy sky .

Interesting landscape.
I like POV and composition.
Super colors and sharpness.

Hej Gunnar,
Gert

Hello Gunnar,
I remember I also struggled to know in which 'landskap' I could post my pictures of Stockholm.
Anyway, you present us here another excellent view of the typical coastline in the vicinity of Gothenburg.
The light on the rocks on the FG is beautiful and creates a strong colour contrast with the sky.
Best regards, Paul

hello Gunnar

Hello Gunnar,

I don't think I have ever previously read any information about the divisions or counties of Sweden. Like most countries, these have changed over the years but will be part of the heritage of your country.

These scene has a wild beauty. The f/g rocks are sharp and nicely textured, with a fine light. They certainly grab immediate attention before they give way to the sea and the link with the undulating land in the distance.
The almost square format is interesting. It creates a sense of depth whereas a landscape format would undoubtedly have given a more panoramic impression.

My warm regards,
Bev :-)

lovely colors, lovely mood & atmosphere ~ all enhanced by a terrific pov.
nicely seen.

with warm greetings from asheville, north carolina ~

Helo Gunnar, great history lays behind your very informative note and it is so nice to learn and to know all about that..
a nice fall picture from your home country is always welcome to me!!

Hi Gunnar
What an interesting coastal scape. I am pleased with a balanced compo, pov and there's some wonderful rock-boulder formations exposed by a low tide along with beautiful dark grey sky to add to the atmosphere. The warm light breaking through the foreground creates such a lovely overall contrast, superb use of max dof field here and lovely crunchy detail throughout. This is a very accomplished and attractive shot seamlessly done. Congrats and tx for sharing
Best regards

Gunnar

hello Gunnar, All three photos are similar, but the main one is the most attractive, as you show a close up view of the boulders. Must be fun to jump on them. This time you had no luck to meet the man (or woman) in red. Nice peaceful shot.
Interesting note. Often, it is difficult here on TE to find the place on the list.

Hi Gunnar,
Very beautiful sea side scene. I like the rocky shapes and the deep calm atmosphere. During my time in Stockholm, I used to go at the sea side and stay a long time to stress out in the nature...Wonderful country you have.

Good afternoon.
Very interesting article about Sweden, with the given data and history ...
Nice view and a second ...
Good composition and perspective, beautiful panorama.
Good work, nice place and time indicated.
Beautiful nature.
Have a great and successful day, all the best.

Hello Gunnar,
A very informative, useful note. I think that so far I have placed my images correctly (at least on the west coast).
When I was in your part of the country recently we cruised around Hising island. It is not apparent that it is an island (even on a map)until you circumnavigate it.
Your image is quite attractive with the low angled light catching the granite rocks and the grasses in the hollows. This view, with the distant rocky outcrops in the distance, brings back strong memories of our visits to the Bohuslän coast.
Regards,
Trevor

Hi Gunnar,

A superb landscape with interesting note attached and wonderful colour, tonal and textural details and contrasts in the rocky fg. I like the subtle warm cold color contrast between the pale sunlit yellow red rocks and the blue sea and sky. Nice skylight reflections in the still tidal pools. Tfs and have a great week!

Hej Gunnar,

Hello Gunnar,
a useful but complicated story in your note, a very relaxing and delightful view in your picture. I like very much the light and colours, you've captured them with striking precision and you've done justice to the place and the fascinating moment. The workshop pictures are wonderful too, no lighting or colour variations, no shift in mood has escaped your lens. The rendering of textures is magnificent. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a good night,
Ourania

Hello Gunnar,

Thank you very much for your interesting notes, I learn everyday on TE.
The almost square format is interesting.

Technical a very well picture, with pleasant colours.
Very well done, TFS.

Hi Gunnar
what strikes me most about this scene Gunnar, is the overall exposure.
what can i say, its absolutely perfect! Spot on!
not too dark, not too bright, all the details in the rocks are noticeable.
fine work
and i like the placement of the horizon line too.
cheers

Ciao Gunnar, fascinating view of lovely bay, excellent exposure, wonderful colors and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

A great combination of sunshine and dark clouds and even the dark clouds cannot dampen the beauty of this scene. Nicely captured with good lighting and sharp details. Well done, tfs.

namaste Gunnar, another nice composition. Like the view of this bay with such a great light and natural colours. The depth of this image is also admirable. Superb shot. Tfs.

Hello Gunnar,
I do like the simple elements here that are so well placed in the frame. The light and processing are very well handled with the sharpness just right to give realistic textural detail. I also enjoyed reading your informative note.

Hello Gunnar,
You have delivered to us a very well illustrated lecture about administrative divisions at the Gethenburg area. Despite the pretty northern location of this area, in your picture it looks highly attractive under warm light of the autumn sun. Excellent presentation of this beautiful place!

Hi Gunnar,

You're capturing well this scape by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the peaceful bay to faced Baltic Sea. It's a beautiful spectacle with the combination of rocks, sea and peninsula in the distance. It's still difficult to understand the historical background of this region for me.

Hi Gunnar,
I like that you took the location of the photo so seriously. It is sometimes what I really enjoy on TE and am always annoyed when people don't care. However sometimes it is indeed easy to make a mistake.
Your note is very interesting in this respect.

Beautiful photograph as well -I like the contrast of the well lit coast and darker looking sea. Very attractive effect thanks to a great light conditions.
I have a friend from Gotheburg, although I lost touch with her, I never realized how beautiful is the coast around there.
Excellent work,
M

Hej Gunnar,
