A bike ride to the Netherlands (10 km) I saw the big rolls of flax, this was really worth a photo
We see every year more flax in the fields

Flax and linen from Egypt over Israel to India
In Mesopotamia there was flax culture already 6000 years before Christ. In Egypt flaxseed was given to the dead as food, according to finds in tombs dating back to 4,000 years before our time bill; and performances on ancient Egyptian buildings point to a flax culture in the period 1400 BC. The immaculate white linen was the clothing of the Isis priest and was a symbol of divine purity. Even in the Israelites linen was already known from time immemorial.
The flax plant is mentioned in several places in the Old Testament. In Exodus 9:31 it says 'the flax and the barley are beaten, for the barley was in the ear and the flax in the halm' The word for flax 'pistjah' is also regularly mentioned in the Bible. On the territory of the former city Gezer, a calendar was found from the beginning of the kingdom of Israel (circa 10th century BC) where flax construction is already mentioned. But also, in the old Indian AyurVedas and in the Epic narratives of Homer, we find flax back.

I hope you enjoy

Hallo John,
Het zomerweer maakt langzaam plaats voor de herfst, wat wel blijkt uit de wolkenlucht en plassen in het veld. De vele rollen vormen een mooi patroon in het landschap.

Witaj John!
A very interesting photo from bike ride.
Wonderful landscape.
The big rolls of flax are impressive.
Excellent framing, colors and light.
Well done.
Good evening.

Hello John,
Even the clouds look like some kind of rolls. They complement the view of the flax rolls very nicely. The scenery looks a bit like what I have seen in Dutch paintings, even though they probably didn't make rolls like these in the 19th century. I like the discreet green and brown tones of the ground in combination with the grey sky.
Kind regards,

Hi John,

The length of the field is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the flax rolls. I appreciate the patterns of the clouds. Have a nice day.

Hello John, Only ten kilometers and you are abroad. Great that there are no borders. Beautiful view of this field with the flax balls. Have you been there in the early summer where the fields were blue? A splendid picture, especially seen in the large format.

Kind regards MAlgo

Bonjour, cher ami John,

Hello John,

Flax is an amazing product.
There is much more of it grown in the U.K. these days because of its many uses.

Although this has been the hottest summer on record, I can see evidence of puddles in the fields, just when farmers don't want that to happen! You have given us true and honest details in this fine photograph, very well composed, using the rule of thirds.

My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello John,
A simple classical composition to celebrate the harvest season, but no less interesting for all that. Well realised with excellent colour contrasts and very good sharpness. Many thanks also for the interesting and informative note.

Hello John

Nice repetition of the rolled flax, with excellent sharpness and nice repetition of the furrows all converging towards the back. I like the diffused light and clouds reflected in the puddles. Tfs!

Nice and simple countryside scene. A common image in this season. Well captured.
Have a good weekend.

Dag John,
Goed weekend, Rob

Hi John
Good subject of interest captured on a very dull day and featureless sky scape, nevertheless its a decent record shot. Congrats

Dag John When I was a kid, my father used to grow flax and it was harvested by means of a pitchfork! These huge flax bales resting allover the open field compose an intense perspective to your picture. Thanks for this interesting visit to modernity! Groeten

Hallo John,
Vele groeten, Paul

sure a bike ride on a flat land is easier than other countries, john.
We get to see here a good example of the typical land.
The hay-bales made a nice objects within the field scenery, and the grey sky gave a special ambiance to the whole.
Good afternoon,

Hello John,
This is a fine looking rural scene. It looks like it has recently rained. 👍 👍
