Canal houses offer a perfect vantage point to view the bustling canal area, where bicyclists, boats and tourists zip past. Many of Amsterdam’s canal houses were built during the height of the Dutch Golden Age, serving as home and workplace, and were distinguished by the striking gables and dual entrances.

There were generally attic and basement spaces to store goods such as cotton or cocoa, and hooks were affixed to the top of the long narrow houses to hoist furniture and goods up and through the windows. Watch closely as you wander - this tradition is still employed today!

Hi Daniel,
Beautiful view about architecture of this town, good angle and choice with these facades, tfs.

Hi Daniel
as I say, its always great to look upwards. I'd like to see more of the clock face, but thats ok. yes, we can see the hooks at the very top to hoist furniture up through the windows..very cool. this place looks almost fake haha, but of course I know its not. unique place with these extra large windows. cheers
Craig

Hello Daniel,

Nice view of the facades of Amsterdam. Interesting composition, without the lower part and canal.
Interesting that the hooks are still there and can be used when needed.

Hi Daniel
This sums up the typical architecture by the canal which is almost a trademark of this place. Very beautiful really like the feel to this enhanced by deep matured colours and detail aplenty. Lovely lens work, Congrats
Best regards

Bonjour Daniel,

Comment ne pas tomber en amour avec ces facades. Elles sont tellement belles et tentent de se différencier de toutes les manières possibles. Superbe contre plongée.

Amicalement

Serge

I guess the canal was narrow and you could capture only the gables of houses and they are really beautiful and varied, very nice photo

Hello Daniel,
Excellent composition with a nice number of canal houses all with a different design. You put them very nicely together and the POV was well chosen.
Lars

Hello Daniel,
Five very beautiful gables in the same style but they are different from each other.
Yes, you're right, the bars and hooks are still used when people want to move their furniture.
Best regards, Paul
